"Brother Lei, come on over! We're friends today because we're destined to meet. Here's a toast to you!"
Zhao Si raised his cup and said.
Lei Tingjun didn't respond much, just nodded and picked up his glass to drink.
Then Zhao Si's underlings came to offer a toast, and Lei Tingjun also picked up his glass and drank.
They took turns toasting each other two or three times, using small cups of baijiu, each cup containing about an ounce.
When Ji Wanmei saw Zhao Si's follower, she saw that after drinking three cups, his face turned red and he was tipsy.
Ji Wanmei glanced at Lei Tingjun again, but he seemed calm and composed, and she couldn't tell what was wrong with him.
However, just drinking without eating wouldn't work, so Ji Wanmei took on the role of mediator and conversation, trying to get information out of Zhao Si: "Zhao Si, have something to eat. You have a good capacity for alcohol, where did you learn that?"
Zhao Si's alcohol tolerance was indeed quite good. He said with a smile, "Those of us in this line of work used to be out there getting by. When we drank with those big shots, they would just give us a token drink, but we would down our whole cups. That's how we developed our drinking skills over time."
"Your boyfriend has a good alcohol tolerance too. What did he do before?" Zhao Si began to probe.
Ji Wanmei said nonchalantly, "They're all just out here to work."
"Oh? Really? Judging from Lei Ge's demeanor, he seems like a big boss."
Both sides harbored probing intentions during the meal.
Ji Wanmei smiled and dodged the question, and Zhao Si couldn't get any useful information out of her. Instead, Zhao Si drank a few more cups and was unknowingly tricked by Ji Wanmei into revealing some of his past experiences.
Ji Wanmei then learned that Zhao Si's boss was actually a junior manager of a communications company in Hong Kong, and that manager had a higher-up.
After Zhao Si got drunk, he started bragging about the amazing and powerful people he had under his protection.
Ji Wanmei listened with a smile, trying to determine the truthfulness of what Zhao Si said.
After several rounds of drinks, Zhao Si and his henchmen were all drunk and slurring their words, while Lei Tingjun appeared to be unharmed.
But when Ji Wanmei touched his palm, she felt his burning body temperature and knew that he was actually a little drunk. However, he was a man who could handle it and was calm and composed, so he would not show it in front of others.
Ji Wanmei then offered a final cup of tea and said, "Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. Zhao. It's getting late, so let's stop here."
Zhao Si let the lobby manager in directly, and instead of paying the bill, he put it on the tab.
At this time, regular customers often put their bills on credit and settle them at the end of the month or quarter.
Ji Wanmei helped Lei Tingjun to his feet and they walked out of the restaurant.
