Chapter 331
There's only one student street in front of East China University.
Going left leads to shops selling school supplies, books, newspapers, and magazines; going right leads to shops selling snacks and food.
Ji Xingguo didn't need to ask anyone for directions; he simply walked to the left.
It was still during the holidays, and many students were not at school. It was also close to noon, the sun was quite strong, and there were not many people on the streets.
As Ji Xingguo walked forward, he looked at the shop signs on both sides, trying to find the bookstore that Ji Wanmei had taken over.
After walking about a hundred meters, Ji Xingguo was about to ask a classmate for directions when, as he turned the corner, he suddenly saw an empty bookstore with its doors half open and melodious music playing from inside.
The two rows of bookshelves inside were empty, and the walls were brand new and white, looking like they had just been renovated.
Ji Xingguo was overjoyed, thinking that this shop was very likely taken over by his daughter, and was about to go over and ask.
His gaze shifted to the steps beside the shop entrance, but his pupils suddenly contracted, his face instantly darkened, and he froze on the spot—
On the steps below the bookstore entrance, Ji Wanmei sat side by side with a man, her head resting affectionately on his shoulder.
Because this shop has two entrances, forming a 'L' shape, and faces the street corner, it has a very good location.
At this moment, Ji Wanmei and Lei Tingjun were sitting on the other side of the 'L' door, facing Ji Xingguo.
Ji Xingguo could see them, but they couldn't see Ji Xingguo who had already walked over from the other side.
He saw his daughter, her eyes half-closed, leaning on the man's shoulder. The two of them held a half-empty bottle of soda, and behind them was an unknown foreigner singing a song coming from the shop.
The melody of the song was clearly so light and cheerful, but at this moment, Ji Xingguo's heart felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar, making his limbs feel cold.
Their intimate gestures were so natural, as if they were already very close lovers, and it was clear that this was definitely not the first time.
Ji Xingguo felt his fingers cracking as he held the handbag, his knuckles turning white from the effort.
The sudden impact made him breathe rapidly, his high blood pressure seemed to flare up, and his vision went black for a moment.
An overwhelming rage enveloped Ji Xingguo, rendering him unable to think rationally.
But Ji Wanmei didn't notice anything unusual beside her. She leaned against Lei Tingjun for a while, then looked up and saw that the sun was gradually slanting towards them, and Lei Tingjun had some sweat on his temples.
She then reached out with the hand that had been holding the glass bottle of iced soda to wipe Lei Tingjun's sweat, and said softly, "It's too sunny, why don't we go back to the store?"
Lei Tingjun grasped her fingertips, his eyes brimming with deep affection as he gazed at her. Just as he was about to speak, a roar, like that of a ferocious beast, suddenly erupted from not far away—
"Stop right there!"
Ji Wanmei froze, wondering if she was hallucinating. Otherwise, how could she have heard her father's voice here?
Ji Wanmei and Lei Tingjun turned their heads at almost the same time to look in the direction of the angry shout.
Both of them were stunned; it really was Ji Xingguo.
He was furious, his eyes flashing with murderous intent as he stared intently at Lei Tingjun.
After a brief moment of surprise, Ji Wanmei immediately stood up and said in a flustered voice, "...Dad? What are you doing here?"
Ji Xingguo strode over with a gloomy face, and without saying a word, grabbed Lei Tingjun's collar forcefully: "Lei Tingjun, you bastard, what did you do to my daughter?"
Ji Wanmei rushed forward and said urgently, "Dad, what are you doing? Please don't be angry, listen to me, please don't hit me!"
Lei Tingjun pursed his lips, glanced at Ji Wanmei, then at the furious Ji Xingguo, and offered no resistance, simply saying in a low voice, "Director Ji."
He was also surprised that Ji Xingguo would suddenly appear here.
But now that he's here and has seen us, running away isn't an option.
His affair with Ji Wanmei will eventually have to go through his approval.
Although this is unexpected and caught people off guard, it has only brought the timeline forward.
What must be faced must be faced; backing down is not the act of a true man.
At this moment, Ji Xingguo truly wanted to fight Lei Tingjun.
He didn't care whether he could win or not, whether anyone was watching, or whether he was losing face. He just wanted to punch this bastard to death.
His fist, with its veins bulging, was already halfway through its swing. Lei Tingjun, who was half a head taller than Ji Xingguo, stood with his head down, motionless, as if letting him hit him.
But his daughter, Ji Wanmei, held his hand tightly and pleaded in his ear with a sob, "Dad, Dad, don't be angry. Listen to me, Lei Tingjun didn't do anything to me."
Ji Xingguo used almost all the self-control he had ever had in his life to barely manage to control his anger. He stared at Lei Tingjun with a gloomy expression, then turned and glared at his daughter.
After a long pause, he stared at Lei Tingjun and said, "You wait outside for me. I'll settle accounts with you later."
"Come in with me." Ji Xingguo glared at his daughter, then turned and stormed into the store.
Ji Wanmei whispered to Lei Tingjun, "Don't worry, I'll reassure my father."
Lei Tingjun said to her, "Meimei, don't shoulder this alone. This is a matter for both of us."
"I know," Ji Wanmei said, pursing her lips.
Ji Xingguo had already gone inside, but seeing that Ji Wanmei was still dawdling and hadn't come in yet, he shouted in a deep voice, "Aren't you coming in yet!"
