Chapter 347
Ji Wanmei couldn't say that Lei Tingjun was the best to her.
She needs to appease her father, put him first, and prevent him from posing a threat to Lei Tingjun, who holds the 'most important position' in her heart.
In that case, Ji Xingguo would think: I will always be number one in my daughter's heart, and Lei Tingjun is only number two, and he would instantly find Lei Tingjun much more agreeable.
Sure enough, Ji Xingguo's dark expression softened slightly, but he still asked with some doubt, "Is he really that good to you?"
"Let me tell you, when a man first starts pursuing a girl, he's willing to say anything and everything. He'll swear oaths and vows of eternal love without hesitation."
Ji Wanmei countered, "Oh, you've already made that assumption. Lei Tingjun is incredibly bad with words. Even if he does ten good things, he won't take the initiative to claim credit. Getting him to say a few sweet words is harder than asking a pig to fly."
Ji Wanmei's vivid analogy successfully made Ji Xingguo laugh.
He was both amused and exasperated: "What nonsense are you talking about, girl? Alright, alright, take the soup out, set out the bowls and chopsticks, and get ready to eat."
Ji Wanmei stopped there.
She was prepared for a protracted battle with her father over this matter; it wasn't something that could be resolved in a day or two.
The truth is, Lei Tingjun's reputation wasn't very good when he was at the Oriental Factory. He even beat someone in front of Ji Xingguo, leaving Ji Xingguo with an extremely bad impression.
People tend to believe only what they see with their own eyes, regardless of whether it is the truth or not.
Once this deep-rooted impression is formed, it is very difficult to reverse.
Ji Wanmei planned to take things slowly and subtly change her father's prejudice.
You can't get fat in one bite; she's said enough about that today.
It would be enough for her dad to process for a few days. Anyway, there was still a long time to spend at home this summer vacation, and Ji Wanmei planned to find opportunities to 'brainwash' him every few days.
Ji Wanmei took a heat-insulating cloth and carried out a pot of fragrant yam and chicken soup.
Ji Xingguo was cooking in the kitchen. The ingredients were all prepared in advance, so cooking was quick.
"Here it is, your favorite sweet and sour pork ribs. Try it and see if Dad's cooking skills have deteriorated?" Ji Xingguo said to Ji Wanmei, bringing out a plate of dishes in each hand.
Ji Wanmei was very accommodating. She picked up her chopsticks, took a piece of pork rib, ate a couple of bites, nodded, and gave a thumbs up: "Not bad, Factory Director Ji is still as skilled as ever, your cooking is as good as ever."
Ji Xingguo laughed. He loved hearing his daughter praise his cooking. He took off his apron and sat down across the table. "If it's good, then eat more. Look at you, you've lost so much weight in just six months at school."
The father and daughter ate their first meal together after returning home, and the meal went fairly well.
During the meal, Ji Xingguo did not bring up the topic of Lei Tingjun again, probably because what Ji Wanmei had said earlier had indeed had some effect on him.
Ji Wanmei thought of something and asked, "Dad, when you went to East China to see me last time, did you take leave?"
Ji Xingguo said, "Your dad only takes a few days off during the Spring Festival all year round. I don't take any of my regular holidays. I don't even have enough annual leave to use up, so why would I need to ask for leave? It's just normal rotation."
Ji Wanmei nodded: "So, does that mean you still have your annual leave this year?"
Ji Xingguo asked suspiciously, "Why are you asking this?"
Ji Wanmei put some food into his bowl and said with a smile, "It's nothing, I was just asking. I'm on summer vacation now, and I was wondering if you could spare a few days so we could go on a trip together."
Ji Xingguo thought about it and agreed. Since his daughter went to university, she wasn't home often. Now that she was finally back for summer vacation, he should spend more time with her.
Otherwise, she won't be back for another six months after school starts.
"Okay, I'll make some arrangements later and free up a few days. Where would you like to go for fun?"
Ji Wanmei smiled and said, "Okay, I'll make a plan later and arrange a few days to go out and have fun."
After the meal, Ji Wanmei took the initiative to help clear the table and clean up the dishes, but Ji Xingguo still wouldn't let her do any housework and washed the dishes himself.
While the father and daughter were watching TV together, Ji Wanmei brought up the matter of Zhu Shuangyan.
"It's the friend I told you about last time. She graduated from a vocational college with a major in business management. She's a very nice person. I've already introduced her to submit her personal information to the personnel department."
When Ji Xingguo brought up business, he showed no intention of using connections and said in a businesslike manner, "Yes, I understand. If this girl is really as talented as you say, once she joins our factory, we will definitely not let her abilities go to waste and will give her a platform to showcase them."
"Okay, I'm going to wash up and get ready for bed. I've been traveling all day to get back, I'm quite tired."
"You should get some rest too."
Ji Wanmei got up and went back to her room.
I can finally get a good night's sleep tonight.
Ji Wanmei slept from the beginning of the day until 10:30 a.m. the next day.
For a period of time, she had something on her mind, and every night when she lay in bed, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Unexpectedly, it was during this trip back to my hometown that a few words from my good friend Luo Chunyan enlightened me.
Now, the shop in her hometown is basically run independently by Luo Chunyan. She has also figured out her own set of experiences. Ji Wanmei doesn't want to stay in the shop all the time, and when she tells her to hurry up, it seems like she is very worried about her.
Just go see her for a meal every few days.
On this trip back, Ji Wanmei also brought three custom cheongsam design orders, with a agreed-upon timeframe: to deliver the finished products to the clients before National Day, which is in September.
