Eventually, Ji Xingguo's old friends in Yunnan found out about his trip to Yunnan.
They sent someone to deliver a message, inviting Ji Xingguo and his family to come and visit, saying they would make all the arrangements.
Ji Xingguo couldn't refuse his old friend's hospitality, so he planned to stay at the Summer Palace for one last day and then go to his old friend's place for a get-together the next day.
When asked if she wanted to come along, Ji Wanmei didn't really want to.
She quite liked the scenery, climate, and customs of Kunming. Ji Xingguo was going to see some old friends, while Ji Wanmei wanted to go to Dali Ancient City by herself.
Ji Xingguo was worried about her traveling alone as a young woman. He said that if she didn't want to go with him to visit his friends, she could stay at the Summer Palace for another day. He would come back to pick up Ji Wanmei after he had met his friends, and they would go to Dali together, and then return to Pingquan County from Dali.
Thus, their vacation trip came to a perfect end.
That was the arrangement originally planned, and both Ji Wanmei and Ji Xingguo agreed to it.
However, that evening, an unexpected visitor changed Ji Wanmei's plans.
This unexpected visitor was the young son of another couple living in the Summer Palace, who arrived late.
He was a young man dressed in a smart, tailored suit and wearing square-framed glasses.
He looked to be about twenty-six or twenty-seven years old, carrying a black leather bag. He might actually be a little older, because the expression on his face and the feeling he unintentionally revealed had an arrogance that most young people don't have.
When the young man arrived at the summer resort, Ji Xingguo was sitting in the courtyard, enjoying the cool air in a rattan rocking chair.
Next to it were several bed sheets that the owner of the resort had hung out to dry. Apparently, another family would be coming in a couple of days, so the owner had cleaned the room and washed the bedding in advance.
For some reason, a gust of wind blew by, and the bed sheet hanging on the bamboo pole was blown down, landing just a few steps in front of the young man.
Coincidentally, Ji Xingguo's rocking chair was not far from where the sheet had fallen.
They both saw the bed sheet lying on the ground at the same time. Ji Xingguo was wearing the Miao embroidered vest that Ji Wanmei had bought for him. His belly was slightly chubby. He was holding a palm leaf fan in his hand and wearing a pair of slippers. He was lying lazily in the rocking chair.
He looked just like any other local.
Ji Xingguo was about to get up to pick it up when he saw a young man approaching, so he paused.
But the young man in the suit merely gave Ji Xingguo, the 'local middle-aged man,' a slight nod of arrogance, then walked past the bed sheet that had fallen to the ground without glancing at it.
Ji Xingguo frowned, thinking that the young man was a bit rude, but he didn't interfere. He got up to help the boss pick it up, dusted it off, and put it back on the bamboo pole to dry.
At that moment, Ji Wanmei walked out of the back gate of the villa, holding a bunch of wildflowers she had just picked from the hillside.
She took a step, and as soon as she stepped out the door, she bumped into the young man who was coming in.
The young man was visibly taken aback when he saw Ji Wanmei.
At this moment, Ji Wanmei was also wearing the ethnic costume she had bought at the ancient town market. Several thin braids were hanging over her shoulders, and a small purple flower that she had stuck in her hair was also pinned there.
She held a large bouquet of colorful flowers in her hands, which made her even more radiant and beautiful than the flowers, contrasting with her fair skin and black hair. She walked out of the house with her back to the light, and the intricate embroidery on her body added a touch of mysterious beauty to her whole appearance.
As the two passed each other, the young man was still unable to recover from the stunning shock he had just witnessed.
He couldn't believe that he could see such stunning beauty in a poor and backward little place in the southwest.
Ji Wan walked past the man without glancing to the side.
The young man almost instinctively blurted out, "Um, excuse me..."
But Ji Wanmei was extremely arrogant and indifferent, without pausing even slightly or showing any intention to listen to what he had to say, and walked straight past him.
The young man turned his head and followed Ji Wanmei's slender figure. He saw her holding flowers and walking all the way to the old man he had seen at the entrance of the villa courtyard. She approached him and said in fluent Southern Mandarin, "Dad, look at the flowers I picked, aren't they pretty?"
The old man in the yard chuckled as he accepted the flowers, admired them for a moment, and offered a few words of praise.
The young man adjusted his glasses and stood at a distance, somewhat absentmindedly thinking, "So that unkempt old man was the beautiful girl's father."
Judging from their appearance, they must be the owner and daughter of this summer resort.
The young man felt that his trip had been worthwhile.
At first, when his father wrote to ask him to come over, he was very reluctant and made excuses to refuse several times.
He thought it was too much trouble to come all this way. What was so interesting about a poor, remote place like Yunnan? If he wanted to go somewhere, he would go to Beijing, Shanghai, or Shenzhen!
But as soon as he arrived, he saw a beautiful girl, and the young man felt that he might be attracted to her.
When the young man ate dinner that evening, he learned that the father and daughter he had met on his way there were not locals; they, like him, had come from out of town for a summer vacation.
This realization made the young man even more eager.
I initially thought they were from Yunnan, and deep down I was a little disgusted, feeling that a girl from a poor village wasn't good enough for him.
