Chapter 365
Ji Wanmei pulled Lei Tingjun and retreated to the back of the crowd.
Everything around them—the voices of people, the noise, the music from the movie, the dialogue—seemed to become background noise unique to them at that moment.
Lei Tingjun held Ji Wanmei tightly, using this gesture to convey the longing he had accumulated over the past few months.
Ji Wanmei's eyes welled up with tears because of his words, "I miss you."
"I'm sorry, it's all my fault," Lei Tingjun said in her ear over and over again.
Ji Wanmei buried her face in his shoulder, shook her head, but didn't say anything.
She was afraid that if she opened her mouth, she would be unable to help but let out a suppressed sob.
"When did you arrive?" Ji Wanmei released him, lifted him up, and touched the stubble on his chin, only then realizing that he was covered in dust from his journey.
They looked like they had rushed over overnight.
The movies usually start at 7 p.m., and this one is already halfway through, around 8 p.m.
Lei Tingjun gazed at her tenderly, lowered his head, and gently rubbed his face against her hand affectionately, saying, "I just arrived. I was going to look for you downstairs in your dormitory, but when I got here I saw they were showing an outdoor movie, so I guessed you should be here and came over."
Ji Wanmei's hand slid down and intertwined with his: "Zhao Si just sent over a batch of new films, which I'm watching for the first time too. Shall we watch them together?"
"Okay, sure."
Lei Tingjun looked around and saw that the seat where Ji Wanmei had been sitting had been taken by other students after she came out, and now it was impossible to squeeze in.
Looking behind, there's only space left on the street wall facing the shop entrance.
Lei Tingjun led Ji Wanmei over there, then easily lifted her up and carried her to a high wall where she sat down.
Then, with a push of his strong arms, he leaped onto the wall and sat down next to Ji Wanmei.
They sat on the wall, at the very back of the crowd.
Ahead were over a hundred black heads, and at the very front was a movie playing on a constantly flashing screen. Sitting here, you could see the movie much better and had a better atmosphere than if you were crammed in at the front.
Actually, this was the first time Ji Wanmei and Lei Tingjun had ever watched a movie.
We'd never even been to the movies together before.
I don't know if it was because there was no opportunity, or because neither of them was aware of it.
Anyway, when they were dating before, their focus was not on their surroundings, but on each other.
"This is the first time I've accompanied you to the movies," Lei Tingjun said to Ji Wanmei with a hint of guilt, seemingly realizing the situation himself.
"How could I be so bad? I didn't even take you to the movies."
Ji Wanmei stopped him from launching into another round of endless self-reflection, comforting him, "Once we buy the equipment, we can just watch it at home. Why waste money going out? Besides, isn't watching an outdoor movie with everyone like this nice?"
Lei Tingjun then grasped her hand and quieted down.
At this moment, they didn't need to say much; everything was understood without words.
When the male and female leads kissed in the movie, a commotion erupted from the crowded group of students at the front.
Some of the shy girls covered their faces.
In this not-so-open era, seeing the male and female leads kissing in a movie was a very exciting scene.
In front of Ji Wanmei and the others, there was a student couple who, taking advantage of the darkness and the fact that no one was paying attention, quietly turned their heads and kissed.
Ji Wanmei and Lei Tingjun were sitting on the wall above, not far from the young couple who were stealing a kiss, and they happened to see them.
Ji Wanmei casually looked away, only to find Lei Tingjun staring intently at her.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she blinked.
Lei Tingjun squeezed her hand tighter: "It's been so long since I've been with you like this. I want to take a good look at you."
The movie is nearing its end.
Ji Wanmei whispered in his ear, "When we get back, I'll let you see it all you want."
Lei Tingjun paused, no longer daring to stare at Ji Wanmei.
He was afraid that if he stared at her any longer, he would be tempted to kiss her right then and there.
Lei Tingjun arrived halfway through the movie, and he only got a vague understanding of it, completely unaware of the plot.
However, many female students on the small dam were so engrossed in the performance that they were silently wiping away tears when it ended.
Lei Tingjun turned to look at Ji Wanmei and breathed a sigh of relief when he didn't see that her eyes were red.
Do movies have such a great influence on people's emotions?
A brief moment of doubt flashed through my mind.
The group of students in front of the shop had already begun to disperse.
The part-time shop assistants started coming over to collect the small stools and equipment.
Fortunately, the college students were quite well-mannered; they took their drinks, fruit peels, and other trash with them when they left.
Part-time shop assistants only need to do a simple cleaning and put the playback equipment back in the shop.
Lei Tingjun also went over to help, and it was only then that the shop assistant Tian Dong noticed him coming over.
I was quite surprised.
I've always heard that Ji Wanmei has a boyfriend who's studying civil engineering part-time, but he's elusive and I've never seen him since the video store opened.
This made Tian Dong wonder if it was because there were too many boys pursuing Ji Wanmei at school, making it troublesome for her to deal with them all, so she 'faked' a so-called boyfriend for herself.
Otherwise, with the record store opening and everyone so busy during that time, even the famous senior student Lu Zhuoxuan from the school came to support and help out. How could Ji Wanmei's official boyfriend not show up?
