Chapter 382
"Dinner's ready! What are you doing in there!" Ji Xingguo shouted as he carried out a pot of steaming fish soup.
Seeing the two people standing very close together in the room, Ji Xingguo wished he could rush up immediately and swat away Lei Tingjun's hand that was reaching out to him.
Ji Xingguo held some traditional ideas about men and women, having been influenced by that era.
In those days, men and women, even with their wives and lovers, would never show excessive intimacy in public. They would even hold hands secretly behind others' backs.
Now that he sees his daughter dating someone, and even flirting with Lei Tingjun in front of him, Ji Xingguo is not happy about Lei Tingjun.
The father was terrified that his precious daughter would be bullied by some scoundrel. Even though Lei Tingjun was now Ji Wanmei's boyfriend, and he, as her father, had officially acknowledged it, he still found it hard to adjust to this situation.
Although you'll have to get used to it sooner or later.
But at the very least, she should restrain herself a little in front of her father.
This was all because Ji Wanmei understood her father's personality. When she took Lei Tingjun in to see the photos, she made sure to leave the door wide open, just to prevent her father from overthinking.
Ji Wanmei led Lei Tingjun out to the kitchen to help serve the dishes and set the table.
Lei Tingjun did these things quickly and efficiently, with his shirt sleeves rolled up, showing no sign of acting like a mere 'guest' despite the occasion. He was clearly someone who habitually did things himself.
But when she sat down at the dinner table, Ji Wanmei still sensed that her father was a little unhappy.
Ji Wanmei explained, "I showed him photos of me when I was a child. I introduced him to my mother. She was very beautiful when she was young. Lei Tingjun saw the photos and said that my appearance is inherited from my mother."
Ji Xingguo loved to hear this, and he said with pride, "Of course, Meimei's mother was a famous beauty in the surrounding villages and hamlets back then, and she was just as capable as any man."
Lei Tingjun smiled and glanced at Ji Wanmei, "It seems that Meimei has inherited her personality and talent from her aunt."
After a few words, Ji Xingguo's earlier discomfort finally dissipated, and he invited them to start eating.
He then asked Lei Tingjun if he wanted to drink alcohol. As he asked, he took out two cups and a pot of his own brewed liquor, ready to pour it out.
Before arriving, Lei Tingjun had already been reminded by Ji Wanmei how to handle the situation if her father asked him to drink. Seeing Ji Xingguo's demeanor, he nodded and said, "I don't drink when I'm driving, and I don't allow my subordinates to drink with me either. However, if it's a gathering with friends or a break, a little bit is fine."
"The factory manager seems to have a good alcohol tolerance, so I'll have a few drinks with you today."
Lei Tingjun has developed a high alcohol tolerance over the years. While he may not be able to drink a thousand cups without getting drunk, most people can't get him intoxicated.
He didn't actually need to pretend to be drunk to fool his father as Ji Wanmei suggested. Since Director Ji wanted to test his drinking capacity and believed that drinking behavior reflected character, Lei Tingjun accepted the challenge.
Then let's just keep him company and have a good drink.
Ji Xingguo glanced at him and said, "Alright, then I'll see how much you can drink today." He then started pouring the wine.
Ji Wanmei also took a cup and handed it over: "Dad, pour me a cup too, I'll have a drink with you."
Ji Xingguo frowned: "Why are you, a girl, drinking? Let Lei Tingjun drink."
Ji Wanmei said, "I'll learn. When I go out to do business with people, I'll inevitably encounter some social engagements. Rather than making a fool of myself or something because I can't drink, I'd better learn from you sooner rather than later. That way, I'll be prepared. If I encounter someone with ill intentions who tries to get me drunk, I'll be able to handle it, right?"
"Besides, no wine from outside can compare to the brew you make yourself, right?"
Upon hearing this, Ji Xingguo agreed that it made sense.
My daughter is twenty-two this year; she's no longer a little girl. Now she owns her own clothing company and several branches, and she'll be dealing with people much more often in the future. He can't protect her every time; she needs to learn some things on her own.
"Okay, here's a glass for you. Drink if you can, don't force yourself if you can't. It's your first time drinking, so the reaction will be strong."
Seeing that Ji Wanmei was in high spirits and wanted to learn how to drink, Lei Tingjun did not stop her.
The liquor cup that Ji Xingguo took out was a small ceramic cup, with a capacity of exactly one ounce.
He poured three glasses of wine and handed them to his daughter and Lei Tingjun, keeping one for himself as well.
"Let's eat some food first, and then drink the wine slowly."
Ji Xingguo's meal was a showcase of his culinary skills; every dish was one of his signature dishes.
He thought the taste was just as good as those fancy restaurants outside.
Ji Wanmei always fawned over her father. After only a few bites, she gave him a thumbs up and kept praising him: "Dad, your cooking skills are getting better and better. I've never had such delicious food in restaurants."
Ji Xingguo's mustache twitched when his daughter praised him like that. He glanced at Lei Tingjun with a smug look and asked, "Lei Tingjun, can you cook? Meimei has been raised with the care of my family since she was little. I never let her do any housework. Her future boyfriend has to be able to take care of her. If he can't cook, that's the first requirement."
Lei Tingjun knew that this was the beginning of his interrogation, so he frankly said, "My parents and relatives passed away early, and I started to be independent at a very young age, so I can cook some everyday meals, but the taste and skills are definitely not as good as yours, Factory Manager."
