Chapter 385
Upon arriving at Zhu Shuangyan's house, Ji Wanmei and Lei Tingjun got out of the car and carried their belongings downstairs.
Because A-Qiang usually works in Pingdong City, he only comes back once every ten days or half a month after marrying Zhu Shuangyan.
Especially after Zhu Shuangyan became pregnant, Aqiang was worried that she wouldn't be able to take good care of her health on her own, so he asked Zhu Shuangyan's parents to move in as well, and also brought Zhu Shuangyan's younger sister to live with them.
Anyway, A-Qiang's house is big, a two-story brick house with a yard. Zhu Shuangyan's parents and sister live on the second floor, while Zhu Shuangyan and A-Qiang live on the first floor. There are two empty rooms on the first floor for the children to live in later.
Zhu Shuangyan's parents originally didn't want to move here, mainly because they were afraid of gossip from the Chen family's relatives.
They said their whole family relied on A-Qiang, and that his parents-in-law even lived with their daughter.
Having followed Lei Tingjun for a long time, A-Qiang had developed a rather assertive attitude towards dealing with gossip from relatives and friends. He said to Zhu Shuangyan, "Let them say whatever they want. We're the ones who live our lives. Your parents are my parents. Now that we have the means, why don't we bring them to live in this big house? Are we going to let them still be crammed into that old building just because of a few words of gossip from others?"
"Besides, your dad has trouble walking, and you're pregnant. Bringing your parents and sister to live with us will put my mind at ease when I'm not home."
Because Zhu Shuangyan was pregnant and needed someone to take care of her, her parents reluctantly agreed to move in. However, they also said that after the baby was born and they helped her through her postpartum period, they would go back to their own home.
Now that we've already moved here, there's no reason to ask us to move it back.
Ah Qiang absolutely forbids it.
In his opinion, these relatives back home are just lazy and have nothing to do all day long; they're just sour grapes.
If any of them found a son-in-law who could take them to live with them and enjoy a life of leisure, they would be so proud of it that they would want to carry a megaphone and boast about it every day in the streets and alleys.
When Ji Wanmei and the others arrived, they saw that the courtyard gate was half-open. They pushed the gate open and called out, "Shuangyan, are you home?"
Zhu Shuangyan's mother was washing clothes in the laundry tub in the yard when she heard the noise and looked over. When she saw Ji Wanmei and Lei Tingjun, she said warmly, "Oh, it's Miss Ji and Boss Lei! Shuangyan is home. She just got back from get off work and went upstairs. Please come in and sit down. I'll go call Shuangyan down!"
Zhu Shuangyan's father is a carpenter who usually takes on odd jobs outside. He's not home right now, so he must be out working.
Clearly, he didn't stop working just because his son-in-law could earn money. People in this era are simple-minded and hardworking.
Shuang Yanmei was doing her homework in the room when she heard the noise and ran out. She happily ran towards Ji Wanmei and exclaimed, "Sister Wanmei! You're here!"
"Second sister, you've grown taller again." Ji Wanmei patted the little girl's head and smiled.
Zhu Shuangyan peeked down from upstairs and was pleasantly surprised to see Ji Wanmei and Lei Tingjun. "Meimei, Brother Lei, you're here! Just wait a moment, I'll be right down!"
From the moment they entered the house, Zhu Shuangyan's mother was constantly busy, bringing them stools, pouring them tea, and offering them candy. She was incredibly warm and attentive.
"Auntie, there's no need to go to so much trouble. We just came to see Shuangyan."
The aunt was a simple country woman. She wiped her hands on her apron and said shyly, "Look at you all, every time you come to Shuangyan, you bring so many things. It makes us feel embarrassed."
Ji Wanmei smiled and said, "These things were brought back by A-Qiang. He bought them for his wife and children himself. The ones in the small box are the ones we bought. He's been busy at the sales office these past few days and couldn't get away, so he couldn't come back with us. Once this busy period is over, he can come back to be with Shuangyan during her pregnancy."
“That’s great. Shuangyan’s due date is coming soon. If he can come back and be by her side, Shuangyan will feel at ease, and we will feel at ease too.”
"When is Shuangyan's due date?"
"It'll be in October, it'll be soon."
As they were talking, Zhu Shuangyan came downstairs with her big pregnant belly.
She's seven or eight months pregnant now, and her belly is very noticeable.
"Wanmei, Brother Lei, when did you get back?"
Zhu Shuangyan had just changed out of her work clothes upstairs. The clothes were a bit restrictive and uncomfortable around her belly. Usually, when she gets home, she puts on her own maternity dress, which is loose and comfortable.
Perhaps due to hormonal changes caused by pregnancy, Ji Wanmei felt that Zhu Shuangyan's appearance had changed slightly, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
According to the older folks, it has something to do with whether you're carrying a son or a daughter.
It seems to be said that mothers become less attractive when they are pregnant with a son, but look more beautiful when they are pregnant with a daughter.
Ji Wanmei had no experience in this area either, but she hadn't seen Zhu Shuangyan for two or three months and did notice that her pores were a bit larger and that she had two or three small freckles on the sides of her nose.
However, she looks quite pretty and cute; you get used to it after looking at her for a while.
Ji Wanmei said, "We just got back today. You don't need to cook tonight. Come to our house for dinner later. My dad is off work today. He hasn't cooked in a long time and wants to show off his skills."
Zhu Shuangyan covered her mouth and laughed: "How could I possibly accept that? I've never eaten a meal cooked by Director Ji himself before."
"Why don't we sit down for a while and wait for Second Sister to finish her homework?"
“Okay, no rush.” Ji Wanmei and Zhu Shuangyan sat down to chat.
Lei Tingjun couldn't participate in the women's conversation, and Zhu Shuangyan and her mother were always very respectful and polite to him because he was A-Qiang's big boss, so he just leaned back in his chair to rest.
