Chapter Sixty
At night, the father and daughter went to their respective rooms to sleep, but both seemed to be preoccupied with their own thoughts.
Ten years ago, Ji Xingguo thought his daughter was still young and didn't want her to find a partner. But now his daughter is eighteen, has finished four years of university, and will be starting her career soon, so she can start dating.
Ji Xingguo sadly recalled the many loving memories he had shared with his deceased wife, and he really didn't want to ruin that feeling.
But reality is cruel.
Once his daughter starts her own family, Ji Xingguo will be of retirement age. How will he, a sixty-year-old man, spend his later years alone?
Forget it, forget it, I won't think about those useless things.
Those old men, living alone in their later years, still manage to live quite well.
After retiring, you can meet up with two or three old friends to go fishing, play chess, and tend to your flowers and plants. If all else fails, you can get a dog or a cat.
Ji Xingguo felt melancholy for only a short while before going to sleep.
I have to go to the factory tomorrow to deal with a huge pile of things, so I don't have time to worry about my personal life.
Meanwhile, in the other bedroom, Ji Wanmei, lying on the bed tossing and turning, was also thinking about something.
She thought, after she went to the provincial capital, not only would her father be alone at home, but what would happen to Lei Tingjun?
In fact, Ji Wanmei had been deliberately ignoring this problem all along. She knew that such a problem existed, but she had never faced it squarely.
Regarding her father's problem, she could still advise him to find someone suitable. At least her attitude was not against it, and she even supported her father finding someone else.
But Lei Tingjun, a young man in his mid-twenties, was physically normal and had normal needs.
Can he wait for me for four years?
By the time she returns after graduating from university four years later, Lei Tingjun will be twenty-eight years old.
An average 28-year-old man's child is old enough to run errands.
Ji Wanmei spent most of the day with Lei Tingjun today, and to be honest, her impression of him has deepened.
Whether through direct contact or through indirect learning from his friends, she developed a stronger liking for him.
He may look rough around the edges, but he's actually quite kind at heart.
But no matter what, he's a normal man. Any normal man wouldn't abstain from sex for so long.
This is different from Ji Xingguo. Ji Xingguo was already married, had grown children, and his heart died with his deceased wife. He lost interest in finding a second wife, which most people could understand.
But if it were Lei Tingjun, a normal, hot-blooded man, to remain chaste and wait for her for four years, how much perseverance and mental fortitude would it take to do that?
Even Ji Wanmei herself couldn't guarantee whether she had that kind of confidence in him.
In her previous life, she had witnessed too many examples of how the bottom line of humanity could not withstand the test, and she dared not think of a person in such a noble light.
The greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment.
Moreover, Ji Wanmei could sense that Lei Tingjun genuinely liked her.
That feeling can only be understood by the person experiencing it.
Every glance, every reaction, every word he uttered was influenced by her emotional changes. Ji Wanmei could feel that every reaction she made could affect Lei Tingjun's emotions.
This rugged and unrestrained man sometimes showed the awkwardness and unease of a naive young boy in front of me.
Looking at her strangely simple-minded appearance, Ji Wanmei smiled silently.
She pulled the crystal hair clip out from under her pillow.
Lei Tingjun gave it to her that day, but Ji Wanmei never took it out to wear.
Because this crystal hair clip looked expensive, she was afraid that if she wore it, her father would ask questions.
Although the question wasn't meant to imply that she was wasting money, it stemmed from concern for her daughter, or perhaps it was a casual remark that came up in everyday conversation.
It's like when Ji Wanmei occasionally buys a new dress, her father will act like a gentleman and say, "This dress is nice, it looks very appropriate and elegant on you, did you just buy it?"
Of course, Ji Wanmei would be very happy to be praised by anyone, even her own father.
Ji Xingguo's method of educating his daughter stemmed from a book he had read.
The book says: A good father should not be stingy with praise and compliments to his daughter from a young age, and should spoil her within his means.
Otherwise, when your daughter grows up, a wicked young man with ill intentions might come along and easily steal her away with a few sweet words and sugar-coated bullets.
Ji Xingguo, who dotes on his daughter, found the book to be very insightful when he first read it.
From then on, he adopted this method of spoiling his daughter as his educational approach.
Therefore, Ji Wanmei was raised by her father to be very confident and generous from a young age, radiating a sense of happiness from the inside out, as if she were loved.
If Ji Wanmei were to wear this crystal hair clip out, her father would surely say, "This hair clip is beautiful, it suits my daughter perfectly, did you just buy it?"
Ji Wanmei didn't want to lie to her father, so she could only hide it under her pillow, occasionally taking it out to look at it, thinking that she would wear it when she had the chance in the future.

Lei Tingjun has been leaving early and returning late these past few days, and even his roommates have noticed something is wrong.
"Brother Lei, what have you been busy with these past few days?" Sun Xiaojun asked, leaning halfway down from the top bunk.
"Don't ask questions you shouldn't ask, mind your own business." Lei Tingjun flipped through the book, his thick black eyebrows furrowed, his eyes full of focus and seriousness as he read quickly.
Through these few days of studying together, Lao Xiao across from him discovered that Boss Lei is actually a genius when it comes to absorbing knowledge!
He has an almost photographic memory. It would take Lao Xiao at least half a month to read a set of review materials, and then another half a month to absorb and digest the knowledge in them.
But Lei Tingjun was different. At first, when Lao Xiao saw him scanning the text quickly, he thought he was just looking at it. But unexpectedly, when he did the mock test questions on the last few pages of the review materials, he was able to answer them all correctly.
This completely shocked Lao Xiao.
I studied for over a year, but I still couldn't keep up with Lei Ge's efforts in just one week.
It's true what they say, comparisons are the thief of joy.
Old Xiao couldn't help but sigh, "Brother Lei, if those things hadn't happened in your family back then, you probably would have gone to university long ago!"
Lei Tingjun smiled dismissively.
There aren't that many "what ifs" and "ifs".
If he hadn't gone through those things, he wouldn't have met Ji Wanmei at the Eastern Factory.
Compared to not dropping out of school back then and getting into some lousy university, Lei Tingjun would rather use that luck to meet Ji Wanmei now.
He was willing to trade all the luck in his life for her to be with him!
