Chapter 360
The Mountain Resort consists of low-rise buildings and courtyards in the style of Miao villages. Guests' rooms are upstairs with balconies facing the courtyard. The rooms are quite spacious and are all Chinese-style wooden buildings.
However, the sun has risen and is shining directly on the balcony.
In the courtyard, Ji Xingguo was chatting with someone again. Not wanting to become the subject of their conversation, Ji Wanmei took out the things she had bought from the ancient town market and started organizing them.
They were all ethnic-style handicrafts, and although they weren't expensive, Ji Wanmei felt they were very meaningful souvenirs.
During her visit, she experienced a different culture and customs compared to the city, and gained a lot of new inspiration.
Ji Wanmei stayed in her room until noon.
After lunch, the owner of the Summer Palace came over and said that he could take them to see the peacocks in the afternoon.
There's a farmer not far from here who specializes in raising peacocks. The peacocks he raises are all destined for zoos in big cities. There are still a few that haven't been sent yet. You can take them there to see them.
In the farmer's animal keeper's yard, there were also some other wild birds, which can usually only be seen in the primeval forest.
But they were lucky this time; they were able to see it just as they arrived.
There happened to be three families living in the Summer Palace, so the owner took them there for a visit.
In the afternoon, Ji Wanmei changed into the local ethnic minority clothing she had bought that morning. She wore embroidered shoes made by the old lady, earrings, and braided her long hair into several small braids tied on her shoulders.
Once she stepped out, she looked exactly like a beautiful girl from an ethnic minority group.
Seeing her outfit, Ji Xingguo chuckled and said, "This dress is quite nice; it suits you."
Ji Wanmei took out the vest and said, "I bought one for you too, why don't you try it on?"
Ji Xingguo took the vest, held it up a few times, and put it on. He was wearing a linen mid-sleeve shirt underneath, and now with the vest on, it looked like a matching set.
With his slightly overweight beer belly, he looked somewhat naive and easygoing, losing some of his seriousness and formality.
Ji Wanmei smiled and said, "It suits you quite well. Wear it. Maybe when we get to the peacock garden, the peacocks will be so happy to see you that they'll spread their tails."
Everyone around burst into laughter. Ji Xingguo, twitching his mustache, rubbed his stomach with obvious displeasure.
The owner of the summer resort led them there, and they walked for about half an hour.
These three families were mostly middle-aged or elderly. There was also a family from Beijing, who looked like a highly educated couple, perhaps retired teachers. They spoke very politely and had two teenagers with them, probably on summer vacation, and the grandparents were out having fun.
The other family was the same one that practiced Tai Chi with Ji Xingguo that morning; they were also a middle-aged or elderly couple.
There's only one young person, Ji Wanmei.
Ji Wanmei was happy to be left alone, not having to participate in their conversation.
Seniors have their own topics to discuss, such as health, wellness, their children's jobs, and their partners and families.
Ji Wanmei avoided these topics at all costs. She took out her film camera and snapped a picture whenever she saw a scenic spot.
She bought this camera from Zhao Si when they were in Guangzhou. It's been so long since she bought it, and now it's finally coming in handy.
The first roll of film inside was mostly unused.
Upon arriving at the peacock farm, the owner of the resort went up to greet the farmers, then turned around and pointed to their group, whispering something. They were probably discussing something, probably about bringing his guests to visit the farm.
A moment later, the owner of the resort came over and said to them, "I've already spoken to him, let's go in and have a look. But he said we can't make too much noise, and we can't feed the wild birds."
Everyone nodded and followed the boss inside.
In the farmer's garden, several enclosures were formed by bamboo fences. Ji Wanmei saw two peacocks with long necks standing inside, their round eyes watching them, a group of strangers, warily.
One of the peacocks even let out a haughty cry.
These are semi-wild peacocks raised in captivity. Their plumage and body shape are exceptionally beautiful, especially the azure arcs on their peacock feathers, which gleam beautifully in the sunlight.
Everyone found it quite novel and gathered around to watch.
Ji Wanmei picked up the camera hanging around her neck, ready to take a picture.
The farmer who was in charge of feeding the peacocks came over and imitated their calls a few times. To everyone's surprise, the peacock that had initially proudly raised its head and called out to them warily suddenly spread its tail.
So beautiful!
When a peacock spreads its tail feathers, it looks like a large fan, with each feather having a black feather that resembles a small eye.
The proud peacock shook its tail, making a rustling sound. Its beautiful tail, like a colorful fan in a fairy's hand, slowly unfolded, its bright colors and luster like translucent pearls scattered on it, extremely beautiful. When the tail was spread out, it was dazzling and colorful, making people dazzle.
Ji Wanmei quickly captured this stunning moment and pressed the shutter button—
Animals are very alert creatures. When the male peacock noticed Ji Wanmei taking pictures, it turned its head and stared at her.
Ji Wanmei pressed the shutter again, capturing the peacock's expression as it looked at her.
It was also the first time that Ji Xingguo had seen a peacock displaying its tail feathers up close. He found it quite novel and turned to see Ji Wanmei taking pictures. He said to her, "Come on, take a picture of Dad too."
