Chapter 259 Lei Tingjun's Fried Rice

Chapter 259

The pickup truck was parked outside the factory on the western outskirts of Pingdong City.

Lei Tingjun led Ji Wanmei toward the workers' quarters.

The house was noisy and bustling. Some people were playing cards, some were watching TV, and some were picking their toes. It was quite a lively place.

Lei Tingjun pushed open the door, which slammed shut with a 'bang'.

The workers in the workshop were stunned for a moment and turned their heads in unison.

One moment the scene was noisy and chaotic, the next moment everyone immediately stood up and began to frantically cover up their slacking off.

Some people quickly hid their smelly socks on the bed, while those at the card table stuffed their playing cards into their pockets and shoved peanuts from the table into their mouths to cover their tracks.

Then, burying their heads in the sand, they lined up and shouted to Lei Tingjun and Ji Wanmei, "Brother Lei, Sister-in-law, you're back!"

"Hey Lei, have you eaten? Want some water? I'll get you some."

"You must be tired after driving all this way. Sit down for a bit."

A group of people were being overly solicitous and insincere.

Ji Wanmei covered her lips from behind and smiled at everyone.

Lei Tingjun glanced at them indifferently. He had only been gone for three days. In those three days, the workshop had turned into a doghouse again.

After scanning the area and not finding A-Qiang, Lei Tingjun, too lazy to argue with them, asked, "Where's A-Qiang? Where did he go?"

The atmosphere immediately became ambiguous, and everyone's eyes swept over Lei Tingjun and Ji Wanmei.

Then someone came out and said, "Boss, as you know, Qiang likes to learn everything from you. Now that you've found a girlfriend, he's started dating someone too?"

Ji Wanmei asked in surprise, "Qiang is dating someone?"

Lei Tingjun also frowned slightly.

The man smiled and explained, "It's that girl from last time, the one from the vocational school."

Lei Tingjun then turned serious and ordered, "Everyone get up and clean up your doghouses. They're filthy and messy, what kind of place is this!"

After saying that, he turned around and led Ji Wanmei to the other side of the migrant workers' bungalows: "Ignore them, let's go over there."

"Oh—oh—" Everyone behind them kept cheering.

Lei Tingjun ignored them and, not wanting Ji Wanmei to stay there any longer, took her out.

After they left, everyone turned around and said with smiles, "To be honest, we've created an opportunity for our boss!"

"That's right. If we hadn't made the dorm so dirty and messy, would Brother Lei have gone to live with his boyfriend? He must have felt embarrassed in front of so many of us brothers."

"Hahaha, who can argue with that? The boss may look fierce on the surface, but he's probably secretly happy inside."

Lei Tingjun wasn't secretly happy at all.

In his view, the transport team's discipline was still too lax.

With him gone and Ah Qiang gone, everyone stopped taking the rules and regulations seriously and went back to their old lazy ways.

Fortunately, no matter what, they all remembered one thing—

Lei Tingjun has repeatedly and strictly prohibited drinking alcohol before driving.

When Lei Tingjun returned, he specifically glanced at the table where they were playing cards and the cabinet where they watched TV. He only saw peanut crumbs scattered on the floor, but no wine bottles.

There was no smell of alcohol either.

If Lei Tingjun finds out that they've been drinking behind his back again, he'll definitely drag them out and give them a good beating.

Ji Wanmei noticed that Lei Tingjun's relaxed mood vanished as soon as he returned to the construction site.

When he was in the transport team, he was serious, sharp, and authoritative.

Lei Tingjun was completely different from the simple and cheerful man who had taken her mushroom picking and hunting all over the mountains in her hometown of Xiahe Village.

Perhaps, like him, she reserved the other side of her personality only for the fields and countryside.

They both understood that once they returned to the city, they should face everything with a different mindset.

Ji Wanmei, recalling what her coworkers had just said, asked Lei Tingjun, "Is A-Qiang really dating someone?"

"Probably, he's liked that girl for a long time." Lei Tingjun thought to himself, "After all this time, that kid A-Qiang should have won her over by now."

After all, Ah-Qiang didn't have a difficult 'future father-in-law'.

“Then when you have time, introduce me to A-Qiang’s girlfriend,” Ji Wanmei said.

Lei Tingjun: "Okay, I'll ask him when he gets back."

They returned from Honghe Township overnight in the evening because there was no place to stay there.

The workers at the brick factory all lived in their own homes nearby, and they basically didn't hire workers who lived too far away and couldn't get back home after work.

Even Lei Xiangshun, whose home is in Xiabian Village not far from Honghe Township, is only a little over an hour's walk away.

A few kilometers is a very easy distance for people from the countryside.

So when Lei Tingjun and Ji Wanmei returned to Pingdong City around 7 or 8 pm, they hadn't eaten yet.

Lei Tingjun first took Ji Wanmei back to the small house to put their luggage away before going to the kitchen shed at the back to find something to eat.

That night, those guys ate all the food, leaving only a little cold rice in the rice pot.

Lei Tingjun turned to Ji Wanmei and said, "There's nothing left to eat in the shed, just some cold rice. Let's go to the night market to eat."

Ji Wanmei was a little tired; she had been traveling all afternoon. She could only conclude that Lei Tingjun was also tired.

Besides, it's already 8 PM. If I go out for dinner, I won't get back until 10 PM. It's too late.

Ji Wanmei thought for a moment and then said, "Then let's make some fried rice with eggs. Oh right, we still have the sausages I brought over before, right? You can cook a couple and slice them into a plate, that should do."
