Chapter 103 A Triumphant Return

For the next two days, Mo Yuan was completely immersed in his work, oblivious to everything around him.

He was so focused on dealing with the old, obsolete equipment that it was as if the whole world consisted only of him and the machines. Having previously lost considerable time cooking and handling logistical matters, he was now finally able to fully dedicate himself to his work and naturally wanted to make the most of every minute to complete the task as quickly as possible.

While Mo Yuan was busy with his work, Bao Ruijin had already left. The matter at the coal mine was temporarily resolved, which relieved Bao Ruijin. After all, although the experience was thrilling, it ultimately ended without serious harm.

Before leaving, Bao Ruijin specifically praised Mo Yuan's contribution, saying that without him, who knows what kind of disaster would have occurred! Fan Dacheng, standing to the side, also chimed in, praising him so much that Mo Yuan was a little embarrassed.

Bao Ruijin asked Mo Yuan if he would like to go back with him, but Mo Yuan politely declined.

His purpose in coming here was for this batch of old equipment. He hasn't completed his mission yet, so how can he just leave like this? Fan Dacheng assured Bao Ruijin that he would take responsibility for safely delivering Mo Yuan and all the items home.

Seeing this, Bao Ruijin didn't say anything more and left with Li Jianguo. Before leaving, Li Jianguo came over and patted him on the shoulder.

"Brother, I'll go back with County Chief Bao now. When you get back, come find me sometime, and we'll have a good chat!"

After saying that, he nodded and left!

After seeing Bao Ruijin off, nothing distracted Mo Yuan, who continued working as fast as he could. After two days of hard work, he finally succeeded in selecting all the usable old equipment.

When Zhou Yongli saw Mo Yuan pull out a pile of old equipment that looked like a small mountain, his eyes widened and his mouth gaped open, speechless for a moment. After a long while, he stammered, "Brother, you...you..."

It's no wonder Zhou Yongli was so surprised. Although he already understood Mo Yuan's general idea, he never expected Mo Yuan's appetite to be so large. Faced with Zhou Yongli's surprised gaze, Mo Yuan couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed and ashamed.

These past few days, he's been like a mouse that's fallen into a flour jar, overwhelmed and bewildered by the dazzling array of equipment before him.

Every piece of equipment seemed to have a potential use in his eyes, as if it could be put to good use once he got home. However, the warehouse was piled high with so much equipment that he couldn't possibly move it all. After much deliberation and selection, this much was still left over.

Looking at the mountain of equipment, Mo Yuan secretly estimated that a single truck wouldn't be able to hold it all. His face flushed slightly, and a sense of guilt welled up inside him, realizing that his request was indeed a bit excessive.

So, he hesitated and said to Zhou Yongli, "No, if one car can't hold them all, I'll leave some behind. Or how about we stick to our previous agreement and I pay you? Brother Zhou, how much do you think is appropriate for me to pay?"

However, Zhou Yongli refused Mo Yuan's offer to pay without hesitation. He patted Mo Yuan on the shoulder and said firmly, "Brother, don't worry. Since I said I'd give you a ride, I won't go back on my word. If one truck isn't enough, we can find a bigger one. You don't need to worry about the transportation costs; the mine will take care of everything."

Hearing Zhou Yongli's generous words, Mo Yuan was deeply moved. He knew that the complicated situation was definitely not something Zhou Yongli had decided on; it was probably due to Fan Dacheng, since he was the one who had the final say at the mine. But Mo Yuan still knew the saying that a local official was more powerful than a distant one, and he looked at Zhou Yongli with tears of gratitude, not knowing how to express his feelings.

"Alright, Brother Zhou, I won't say anything more. I'll remember this favor. If you ever need my help in the future, just say the word!"

Seeing Mo Yuan's sincerity, Zhou Yongli smiled and patted him on the shoulder, "Then it's settled. Don't forget, you still owe me a drink when we get to the county town! Okay, brother, you wait here, I'll go arrange a car!"

After speaking, Zhou Yongli turned and left. He was actually going to report to Fan Dacheng. Despite how readily he spoke, Mo Yuan's guess was correct; Fan Dacheng had given him instructions beforehand, and now Fan Dacheng's attitude towards Mo Yuan couldn't be better.

Seeing Bao Ruijin leave successfully, he felt relieved that he had weathered the storm without serious injury and even received praise from his superiors. They said that this disaster relief effort could serve as a model, and that this practice of conducting disaster drills in advance was worth promoting, as it could greatly reduce the risk when real danger strikes. They also said that the whole county would hold a meeting to report and learn from this experience.

Fan Dacheng was extremely excited. He went from almost resigning to becoming a role model, all because the accident was handled well, with no casualties.

They were even more grateful to Mo Yuan, which is why they were so generous. Not only did they waive the money originally agreed upon for buying the old equipment, but they even offered to send a car to take Mo Yuan home.

Zhou Yongli was essentially using someone else's resources to curry favor, but since he needed an extra truck, even though the mine had several, he still had to report it to Fan Dacheng. Sure enough, upon hearing what Zhou Yongli said, Fan Dacheng waved his hand and readily added another truck.

Not only that, Fan Dacheng specifically instructed that if the car wasn't full, it shouldn't be empty; it should be loaded with gifts to thank Mo Yuan. Zhou Yongli was unsure of Fan Dacheng's true intentions. These gifts were gone forever, and he didn't dare make a decision lightly. So, he cautiously asked what kind of gifts to prepare.

Fan Dacheng replied impatiently, "Oh, just give him whatever we have at the mine, as a token of our gratitude. We have plenty of rice and flour; just fill in the empty spaces. Also, prepare half a pig. By the way, he's taking all this old equipment back; he's probably thinking of fixing it up to see if it's still usable. We can't give him the big equipment, but the small stuff is fine. Let me tell you..."
