Mo Yuan was alone in the room, pacing back and forth like an ant on a hot plate. He craned his neck to look towards the door, anxiously hoping that Lin Xue would arrive soon. However, time passed by, and no matter how long he waited, Lin Xue did not appear.
At this moment, Mo Yuan was extremely anxious, and even had a thought—why not just run back again and find some excuse to call Lin Xue over? Just as he was hesitating, suddenly, the door made a slight noise, and then slowly opened. Lin Xue walked in shyly, her head lowered and her cheeks as red as ripe apples.
Seeing this, Mo Yuan's heart tightened, and he quickly stepped forward, asking with concern, "What's wrong? Why is your face so red? Did something happen?" Lin Xue gave Mo Yuan a playful glare and said irritably, "It's all your fault! Why are you in such a hurry?" After saying that, she bit her lip slightly, seemingly a little embarrassed to speak.
After a long while, Lin Xue finally took a deep breath and mustered her courage to explain. It turned out that her sister-in-law had noticed Lin Xue and Mo Yuan exchanging glances, clearly indicating that something was going on, so she offered to help Lin Xue finish the remaining work, allowing her to come over earlier.
Actually, nothing else particularly happened. It was just that Lin Xue was embarrassed because her sister-in-law was so understanding, while she herself felt ashamed over such a small matter. That's why her face was flushed and her heart was pounding.
After hearing Lin Xue's explanation, Mo Yuan breathed a sigh of relief, and a bright smile immediately spread across his face. He was extremely grateful for his sister-in-law's understanding and kept praising her, saying, "Sister-in-law is so sensible! It's no wonder I always listen to her and never make her angry. See, she's come in handy at this crucial moment!" As he spoke, Mo Yuan raised his eyebrows proudly.
Lin Xue stood quietly to the side, turned her head slightly, and glared at Mo Yuan fiercely once again.
A strange glint flashed in her beautiful eyes, and she bluntly exposed, "Hmph! That's just a trivial, secondary reason. I bet the reason my sister-in-law did this is because she feels she owes Mo Yuan and me far too much. That's why she's going to such lengths to make up for it in every little detail."
Thinking of this, Lin Xue gently shook her head, a faint smile appearing on her lips.
Actually, Lin Xue wasn't particularly concerned about this. Although she didn't know what Mo Yuan was thinking at this moment, at least for now, their life as a couple could be described as worry-free, stable, and peaceful.
Furthermore, Lin Xue herself wasn't the type of woman with a strong desire for material things. Since marrying Mo Yuan, she had always followed his wishes in everything. Therefore, she really couldn't be bothered to pay much attention to her sister-in-law's attentiveness in these trivial matters.
At this moment, Lin Xue was only looking forward to one thing—waiting for Mo Yuan to finish all the tasks at hand.
Then, she could go back to Shanghai with him to visit her family.
However, the thought of going back to the city to see her family filled Lin Xue with a sense of unease and conflict.
Originally, she was somewhat reluctant to return to the city. On one hand, she worried that if she brought Mo Yuan home, her sycophantic relatives would look down on him, making him feel uncomfortable. On the other hand, she feared that she would be drawn into all the past entanglements and find it difficult to extricate herself. Thus, she was truly caught in the middle, in an awkward position, caught between a rock and a hard place!
Ultimately, at that crucial moment, it was Mo Yuan who gave her that vital courage. It was this courage that enabled her to resolutely let go of the long-held resistance deep within her heart.
Once the knot in her heart was untied, she was filled with endless longing and anticipation to reunite with her family. You see, many years had passed since she came to this place to work in the countryside. During those long years, she had never been able to see her family members in person.
Deep in my memory, my parents are still as radiant and spirited as ever; while my younger brother was at the age of mischievousness and innocent joy. However, time flies by, and several years have passed since then. The world has changed, and things are no longer the same.
Whenever she thinks of these things, she deeply feels the hardships her parents have endured for the family, and their increasingly haggard physical and mental state. As for how they are doing now that they've returned to the city, this question lingers in her mind, causing her increasing worry and concern.
As a result, Lin Xue has been somewhat absent-minded and unable to concentrate on her work during the day lately.
She seemed completely lost, her mind preoccupied with counting down the days, hoping that Mo Yuan would soon fulfill his promise to take her back to Shanghai to visit his parents.
After all, Mo Yuan had promised her! Thinking of this, Lin Xue could no longer suppress her surging emotions. She looked at Mo Yuan with deep affection and asked in a tone full of expectation and excitement, "Mo Yuan, are you still so busy lately? When can we finally set off to meet my parents?"
Mo Yuan only needed to hear a hint of loneliness and melancholy in Lin Xue's words to immediately sense that her homesickness was subtly at play. He slowly shifted his gaze to Lin Xue, and saw her pitiful appearance, like a flower swaying in the wind, which evoked pity in him; she was truly a sight to behold!
