Chapter 240 Colluding with each other

Just as Cui Hao's mind was churning with a turbulent mix of emotions, the woman opposite him finally lost her temper. She stared intently at the stranger before her, noticing his tightly closed lips and prolonged silence, and a surge of irritation rose within her.

"Hey, who are you anyway? Didn't you keep saying you had something important to tell me? Hurry up and say what you have to say! My husband will be home from get off work soon, and I need to make dinner for him!" the woman complained impatiently, making a move to get up and leave.

Cui Hao seemed to snap out of his daze and quickly called out to the other person, "Wait, please stay! Um... you must be Lin Xue's aunt, right? I really have something very important to tell you, and I'm sure you'll be overjoyed to hear it!"

These words were like a lightning bolt piercing the night sky, instantly capturing the woman's entire attention. She abruptly stopped, turned around, and her face showed a mixture of surprise and suspicion as she questioned, "Lin Xue? How do you know about her? Didn't she marry into a poor, remote mountain village? Do you have some shocking secret to tell me?" Although mentioning Lin Xue's name involuntarily brought back unpleasant memories for the woman, her curiosity was clearly now fully piqued.

Seeing this, Cui Hao didn't dare to be negligent and quickly introduced himself: "Hello, my name is Cui Hao. Actually, Lin Xue and I were sent to the countryside together, so I know her situation quite well. I've come to see you today because I have something extremely important to tell you about Lin Xue."

"Oh. Lin Xue's matter? You've already returned to the city, what problems could you possibly know? I have no interest in those old, trivial matters!" Although Wang Wanfang said this stubbornly, her feet seemed rooted to the spot, not moving an inch. Clearly, deep down she was still quite interested in these matters.

However, when Wang Wanfang turned her gaze to the young man standing opposite her, her eyes darted around, and a meaningful smile appeared on her face. She slowly said, "We've never met before. You've come all this way to tell me this news. Regardless of whether it's true or not, you must have something on your mind, right? Young man, do you want me to help you with something again?"

Faced with Wang Wanfang's blunt questioning, Cui Hao's face did not blush at all, and his heart did not show any signs of panic.

Instead, he chuckled and, with an air of utter indifference, shamelessly replied, "That's how it is. Back when Lin Xue and I were sent to the countryside, I'd long heard of your great reputation. And I knew you were trying to arrange a good marriage for her. I patiently explained to her several times that it was a wonderful thing, but who would have thought she wouldn't appreciate it at all!"

In the end, they actually preferred to go to that godforsaken, impoverished mountain village rather than return to bustling Shanghai. I was absolutely furious to encounter such an ungrateful person!

Despite Cui Hao's impassioned and angry words, as if he had suffered a great injustice, Wang Wanfang remained unmoved. She stared sharply at Cui Hao and responded without hesitation and directly, "Stop talking nonsense, just say what you want. If it's within my power, and your information is truly valuable to me, perhaps I'll consider helping you; but if you're just spouting empty words without any useful information, then go cool off somewhere else!"

Seeing Wang Wanfang's resolute attitude, Cui Hao knew that beating around the bush would be futile, so he simply stopped hiding his intentions and laid out his needs in full.

He took a deep breath and said slowly, "Here's the situation: since I returned to the city, I've been searching for a job everywhere, but I haven't been able to find one that I'm satisfied with. Then I happened to hear that your spouse is the deputy director of the Education Bureau, so I've taken the liberty of coming here to ask for your help. Could you put in a good word for me at the bureau and find me a job? Of course, I know in my heart that with my abilities, I'm definitely not qualified to be a teacher of academic subjects, but if it's teaching physical education or something similar, just to get by, I think I can handle it. That shouldn't be too difficult, right?"

After hearing Cui Hao's words, Wang Wanfang couldn't help but ponder. She thought that what he was asking for wasn't unreasonable; it was just a small favor. Many schools were facing a teacher shortage, and if she really wanted to get someone in, it wouldn't be difficult for her husband at all. With that in mind, Wang Wanfang nodded slightly and readily agreed, "Okay, I agree."

Then he added, "Of course, that's on the condition that you say it yourself and that the news is very beneficial to me! Stop beating around the bush and stammering, just tell me the truth!" Upon hearing this, Cui Hao immediately stepped forward, lowered his voice, and whispered the whole story into her ear.

"You don't know this, but Lin Xue was determined not to return back then. She preferred to stay in that poor, remote place rather than come back to accept your kindness, and she was deliberately trying to embarrass you. However, do you know that Lin Xue has not only returned now, but she has also returned with that unknown wild man of hers? Isn't this a blatant provocation against you?!"

Wang Wanfang was completely unaware of this matter. Back then, after Lin Xue decided never to return to the city, her relationship with her eldest sister's family had become increasingly strained, even to the point of complete breakdown, with almost no contact whatsoever. Therefore, she hadn't heard a single word about this affair. Immediately, she pressed, "Is what you say true? You're not lying to me?!"
