Chapter 189, /.

Aunt Zhang lives in such a nice place, she feels a little restricted.

The farthest she ever went was to visit her son who had been sacrificed, but she was in a daze the whole way and didn't even realize it.

"Auntie, I have something I'd like to tell you," Liu Zi suddenly spoke, interrupting Aunt Zhang's thoughts.

"Go on, I'm listening," Aunt Zhang said, snapping out of her daze.

Liu Zi told Aunt Zhang about Lingzi's background.

When Aunt Zhang heard that Lingzi had been given away for adoption by her biological father and grandmother, she patted Lingzi's head with pity, saying, "They are all pitiful people!"

Liu Zi wiped away her tears and said, "I've already divorced that man. I have custody of Lingzi and our youngest daughter. He can no longer hurt Lingzi."

After her initial sigh, Aunt Zhang began to worry about something else: how would this woman support her two children without a man?

Aunt Zhang quickly replied, "I have my husband's and son's pensions, so I don't need you to support me. If you have any difficulties, I can even help you raise Lingzi."

If it weren't for Lingzi's companionship these past few years, she might have joined her father and son long ago.

Upon hearing this, Liu Zi was once again certain that she had made the right decision to bring Aunt Zhang out; she was truly kind.

"Auntie, you've misunderstood. I have a job and can earn a lot of money. Providing you with care in your old age and seeing you off in your final days is not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but a well-thought-out one."

Seeing Liu Zi's determination, Aunt Zhang stopped talking and decided to wait until Lingzi's test results were available before making any further plans.

This girl has already had it tough enough; she can't drag her down with her.

After a long day of travel, Liu Zi was exhausted. Seeing that Aunt Zhang no longer objected, she settled down and went to sleep.

At this moment, Lingzi was sleeping in the same bed as Aunt Zhang. Liu Zi was lying on her side, looking at her daughter's profile through the dim light, feeling a mix of emotions.

Mother and daughter should be the closest of people, but at this moment, the distance between the two beds felt as if there was a strait separating them.

Liu Zi comforted herself, telling herself not to rush. Lingzi had lived a life of constant wandering over the years and was naturally wary of strangers.

Especially now that she is leaving the place where she grew up in a daze, she must be extremely uneasy.

For her, Aunt Zhang was the closest person to her at this moment. Although Liu Zi could understand all of this, she couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness in her heart.

The next morning, after having breakfast, the four hurriedly set off.

Shi Jianjun drove the whole way. Although Liu Zi could drive, she didn't have a driver's license, so it seemed she would have to get one.

With more and more people in the family, motorcycle travel could no longer meet their needs. Liu Zi turned her head to look at the well-behaved Lingzi, a faint smile appearing on her face.

Song Yan had been restless ever since Liu Zi and the others left, but she dared not show it on her face, because Liu's mother had been bringing Zhao Qi to the village entrance every day to wait for news.

Understanding her aunt's anxiety, Song Yan arranged for her sister-in-law and the helper to accompany her.

The group had initially worried that someone like Liu's mother, who had worked in government departments her whole life, might have a different mindset and wouldn't want to talk to them, who were just ordinary folks. But to their surprise, Liu's mother was very approachable.

He doesn't talk much, just sits quietly to the side and listens to everyone. Occasionally, he'll chime in with a few words, which can give everyone a different perspective on a matter.

Only two days have passed, and everyone has come to like this gentle and considerate older sister.

What people don't know is that Xu Mei works for the Women's Federation and is very familiar with this kind of chat environment. She usually comes into contact with these women the most, and this kind of occasion makes her very relaxed. So these past two days, whenever she has free time, she brings her child over to play.

It was a little after 2 p.m.

When Shi Jianjun drove into Songzhuang, he and Liu Zi both breathed a sigh of relief; they were finally home.

Zhu Zi was watching the store, nodding his head, when he suddenly woke up at the sound of a car engine.

Seeing the car turn into the village, he suddenly stood up and took two steps forward.

After recognizing who was driving, they rushed towards the nearby hotel.

Shi Jianjun didn't go home. He drove straight in, intending to take Liu Zi and the others home to rest first.

Aunt Zhang held Lingzi, who was sleeping in the car, and breathed a slight sigh of relief.

She was always worried that she, an old woman from a poor, remote place, would be looked down upon, and that Lingzi would be looked down upon as well.

The scenery of the village outside looked like a rural area, and although it looked better than their town, it made her feel much more at ease.

“Auntie, I rented a courtyard in this village. There are two rooms, and it’s quite spacious for the four of us to live together,” Liu Zi introduced.

"good!"

Aunt Zhang nodded. It seemed that Liu Zi had only said those things to her to keep her from worrying.

This child doesn't even have her own house and has to take care of two daughters. It seems she'll have to reconsider where to go after the results are in.

The gate opened as soon as the car came to a stop.

Xu Mei stood inside the door and looked out. When she saw that it really was their car, she came out in surprise.

Last night, Liu Zi called Song Yan's shop using her own phone, firstly to let everyone know they were safe, and secondly to let everyone know they would be back tomorrow.

Zhao Qi was taking a nap. Xu Mei couldn't go out, but she figured it was about time, so she didn't sleep either. She came out immediately when she heard a noise outside.

"Mom, we're back."

"Okay, where's the child?" Xu Mei looked back excitedly.

"She just fell asleep. I'll carry her inside." Liu Zi turned around and took her from Aunt Zhang's arms.

"Okay, okay, I'll go make the bed for her." Xu Mei was a little at a loss, hesitatingly wanting to peek over.

"Mom, this is Aunt Zhang!" Liu Zi introduced her briefly.

"Big sister, you are our family's benefactor!" Xu Mei said, tears streaming down her face.

"It's fate that I met the child," Aunt Zhang said politely.

Xu Mei took Zhang Da Niang's hand and walked into the courtyard, while Liu Zi had already carried Lingzi inside.

Lingzi didn't wake up. Liu Zi gently placed her next to Qiqi. Looking at the similar features of the two children, her heart softened.

Liu's mother pulled Zhang Da Niang and Shi Jianjun to sit down in the outer room and poured them a glass of water.

"Big sister, I've heard everything from Zizi. You're a great benefactor to our whole family! Our child wouldn't have survived without you." Xu Mei sat in the chair, her eyes filled with tears.

Aunt Zhang always felt uncomfortable. She hadn't actually done anything special; she just couldn't bear to see the children go hungry, so she fed them for two years.

"Mom, stop crying. Go inside and see the children. Lingzi and Qiqi look so alike. If it weren't for their age difference, you'd think they were twins!" Liu Zi quickly changed the subject when she saw that Grandma Zhang was uncomfortable.

"Okay, please have a seat, I'll go in and check on Lingzi." Hearing Liu Zi mention the child, Xu Mei couldn't resist any longer and went into the inner room.
