Among the people in the village who often played with her, Da Shan and Xiao Shan were a family, Wen Ge and Wu Ge were a family, and she was all alone.
Now she has an older sister, that's wonderful.
Are you my sister?
Lingzi initially didn't want to pay attention to her, but looking into the other woman's big, watery eyes and seeing that she was only slightly taller than the bed, she softly said, "I don't know either."
Zhao Qi frowned in distress. Why wasn't her mother awake yet? Was this really her sister?
Just as she was feeling extremely distressed, her grandmother walked in from the outer room.
"Oh, baby, you're awake. Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something?" When Liu's mother saw Lingzi again, she found that she looked even more like her daughter than when she was asleep.
Lingzi shrank back a little, wondering who this strange woman was.
“Baby, I’m her mother. You can call me Grandma. Grandma made you some egg noodles. Would you like some?” Liu’s mother pointed to Liu Zi, who was still sleeping.
Glug!
Lingzi swallowed hard. Could she really eat egg noodles?
Seeing that her child was very hungry but still refused to get out of bed, Liu's mother had no choice but to speak again.
“Your Granny Zhang is sleeping in the next room. Would you like to go and see her?” Liu’s mother pointed to the door next to her.
Lingzi finally made a move. She slowly got off the bed and followed Liu's mother to the next room.
With Grandma Zhang really here, she can finally relax a little.
Then Liu's mother squatted down and spoke to her slowly. Her gentle expression gradually touched Lingzi's heart. When she came to her senses, she was already sitting next to a small table with a bowl of tomato and egg noodles and some fragrant meat in front of her.
Zhao Qi watched her sister eat and became craving food herself, so Liu's mother made her a small bowl as well.
"Sister, eat!"
Zhao Qi used her small spoon to scoop a large piece of meat and put it into Lingzi's bowl.
Lingzi looked up at Liu's mother in a panic. The beating did not come as usual, which made her feel a little dazed.
Back home, she wasn't allowed to eat meat sandwiches; if she tried to sneak one, she would be severely beaten.
The first time she ate meat openly was at Grandma Zhang's house, but Grandma Zhang lived a hard life and would only cut a little meat on holidays.
Lingzi knew that she was eating her mother-in-law's food; if she ate one more bite, her mother-in-law would have one less bite, so she often went hungry.
When her mother-in-law celebrated her birthday this year, she made a wish that she could eat meat during the Chinese New Year.
But before the New Year was even over, she saw meat, and such a big piece of it.
"Qiqi, stop making trouble and let your sister eat in peace."
Liu's mother shook her head helplessly and used her chopsticks to take the large piece of meat out of Lingzi's bowl.
Reiko felt a pang of disappointment; she knew this would happen, girls weren't supposed to eat meat.
Liu's mother had already noticed Lingzi's gaze. Seeing the child's eyes constantly following the piece of meat, she suddenly felt a pang of sadness.
She sniffed and then said, "Lingzi, Qiqi made this piece too big for you. It's hard to chew. Grandma will help you break it apart, okay?"
Lingzi looked up abruptly. Was it what she understood? She could eat meat?
Liu's mother took out a knife, cut the tender braised meat into small pieces, and then placed them on the plate in front of Lingzi.
"Lingzi, try this. This meat is especially delicious. If you like it, ask your mom to buy some more when you get back."
"Delicious!" Zhao Qi chimed in from the side.
Seeing the expectant looks on their faces, Lingzi carefully picked up a piece of meat and put it in her mouth.
Immediately, the rich aroma of meat, a flavor she had never tasted before, filled her mouth; it was so delicious.
Looking at Lingzi's expression, Liu's mother simply smiled and told her to eat more.
Lingzi originally thought that the reason they could eat steamed buns every meal on the road was because it was inconvenient to travel. After all, Yangjiao Town was a well-known wealthy place within a hundred miles. However, only the heavy laborers in the town could afford to eat pure white steamed buns.
Eating meat was something that could only be done once a month after wages were paid. At that time, the aroma of meat filled every house, and this was the most difficult time for families where no one worked at the coal mine.
Lingzi's adoptive parents are well-off and can afford to eat meat, but they don't give it to Lingzi; Grandma Zhang wants to supplement Lingzi's nutrition, but she doesn't have much money.
In short, Reiko, who had hardly ever eaten meat, felt that the food in her mouth was the most delicious thing in the world.
Although Lingzi is not tall, she eats a lot. Liu's mother watched as she ate a bowl of noodles, several pieces of meat, and a braised egg.
Seeing that the child still wanted to take the steamed bun, Liu's mother quickly stopped him.
We can't overfeed such a small child.
Lingzi suddenly came to her senses, looked down at her empty bowl, her eyes filled with regret. She seemed to have eaten too much and must have eaten everyone else's food as well.
"Sorry, I won't be eating tomorrow!"
Lingzi quickly apologized.
"Honey, you've misunderstood." Liu's mother stopped her from saying anything more that would hurt her.
"Grandma is worried you'll overeat. If you still want to eat, Grandma will make you more tomorrow."
"Really? Will there be such delicious meat and eggs tomorrow?" Reiko's eyes lit up.
"Yes, Grandma will give you as much as you like." Liu's mother affectionately ruffled the little girl's hair.
"Okay, then I won't eat." Lingzi stood up to collect the dishes and wash them.
Liu's mother quickly stopped her, saying, "Good Lingzi, you take your little sister out for a stroll in the yard. Grandma can take care of things here."
"good."
Lingzi's face lit up with a big smile. No matter how sensible she was, she was still just a six-year-old child, and being playful was her nature!
