Wang Jian held a folder to his chest for courage, then walked into the manager's office with his head held high.
Imagine him, a recent college graduate from a media college, who, due to the abolition of job assignments by the state, found employment independently and was admitted to a well-known domestic entertainment company. At first, he was full of ambition and ready to make a name for himself.
I never expected that after I actually started working, I would find that the nice guy who was all smiles in front of the general manager would turn around and trip him up.
The manager rejected the work he thought was good and wanted to return it all; the manager thought the planning he did was rubbish, but he turned around and put his own name on it and submitted it, and was highly praised by the company leaders.
The manager, having benefited from the situation, acted innocent, not only verbally threatening him to behave, but also suppressing him at every turn and making him take the blame.
He wanted to quit countless times, but when he thought of his elderly father’s happy face when he heard that he had made something of himself and could earn a thousand yuan a month, all his anger would dissipate.
A voice suddenly popped into Wang Jian's head: 1,500 a month. That Miss Liu just said that if he worked for her, he would earn 500 more a month than he does now.
This 500 yuan is his father's salary for two months of working on a construction site. If he sends an extra 500 yuan home every month, then his family can build a house by the end of next year.
Wang Jian entered the manager's office with a thoughtful expression, only to be met by a dark shadow flying towards him.
He subconsciously shifted his body to the side, and the paperweight slammed against the wooden door with a loud thud.
Wang Jian looked back in disbelief. The manager was about to kill him. He couldn't even imagine that if he had been a little slower in dodging, the thing would have landed on his head.
The manager finally realized what had happened. He had been so angry that he hadn't been able to control himself and had just thrown it away. Luckily, Wang Jian was quick to run.
He suppressed the urge to give way, sat down in his boss's chair, and said, feigning toughness, "Get over here now."
The manager was initially wary of Wang Jian, after all, he was the first college graduate in their department. However, after learning that the guy had no connections and his family was dirt poor, the manager felt relieved.
So what if he's a college student? In his territory, if he's a dragon, he'd better coil up; if he's a tiger, he'd better lie down.
The manager found a unique kind of thrill in targeting Wang Jian, and the sense of satisfaction that came from the bottom of his heart was truly refreshing.
Wang Jian stood at the door with his head down, his hands clenched into fists, and his teeth clenched tightly.
That damn bastard, he's gone too far.
I just can't swallow this insult.
Wang Jian glared at the manager, then turned and walked out.
The manager flinched at the resentful glare, and a bad feeling rose in his heart as he watched Wang Jian stride away.
He quickly chased after him, but by the time he stepped out the door, Wang Jian's figure had already disappeared into the stairwell.
"Stop him!"
The manager's pupils constricted, and he hurriedly ordered the department staff who had been watching the commotion to chase after Wang Jian.
Wang Jian went straight to the general manager's office, but the secretary at the door stopped him.
"The general manager is meeting with guests and cannot see you," the secretary said in a businesslike manner.
Seeing that he couldn't get in, Wang Jian simply shouted loudly from outside the door: "President Xu, President Xu, I have something to say. I'm Wang Jian, the college graduate you just hired this year."
"Hey! Hey! What's wrong with you? Stop shouting, or I'll call security." The secretary rushed over to stop Wang Jian, trying to calm him down.
The upstairs common area houses the company's finance department and secretarial office; they all peeked over after hearing the commotion.
At this moment, the business department manager had already led his staff upstairs and saw Wang Jian in front of the general manager's office. He almost fainted.
This brat is so bold, he actually dared to complain to the general manager.
"This kid's gone mad. You guys take him back right now," the manager hurriedly ordered.
Before these people could even touch Wang Jian, the door to the general manager's office opened.
The manager's pupils dilated in shock. Wasn't the general manager not in the office?
Recalling Wang Jian's shout just now, the manager's face turned pale.
"What's going on?" President Xu looked at everyone with displeasure.
"Mr. Xu, I was almost murdered by the manager in the business department office just now. I'm going to report it to the police."
Wang Jian's words shocked everyone present, causing a great stir.
"What?" General Manager Xu looked at the business department manager in disbelief.
"No, no, it was just an accident," the manager explained excitedly, waving his hand.
"Mr. Xu, I've been working in the business department for six months. May I report some things to you in person?" Wang Jian asked, his face grim.
"Speak!" With things having escalated to this point, President Xu's expression was not pleasant.
"Mr. Xu, your judgment is terrible. You chose such a scoundrel as the business department manager. He extorts money and favors, and he targets anyone who doesn't do what he wants. He's turned the business department into a complete mess."
"President Xu, Wang Jian is too proud to stand it because I scolded him a couple of times yesterday, so he came to you to slander me. I'm innocent!" the manager cried out loudly.
"You're being falsely accused? When you stole my car, didn't you think this day would come? When you rejected my manuscript of 'Hidden Wings,' didn't you think this day would come?" Wang Jian shouted back.
"What proposal? What's the deal with 'Hidden Wings'?" President Xu's heart skipped a beat.
"President Xu, the company's five-year development plan was written by me. It was my graduation project, and the school and my advisor have records of it. I will report this to the police. As for the song 'Hidden Wings,' the lyricist and composer initially submitted it to our company. I told the manager that the song was good, but he didn't want me to take the lead, so he made me return the song." Wang Jian lowered his head in regret.
Mr. Xu's expression darkened further. This morning he had just received news that Taiwanese singer Zhang Shaohan's "Hidden Wings" had risen to second place on the charts with overwhelming numbers.
The number one song on the list is also this lyricist's work, "At Least There Is Still."
Mr. Xu was heartbroken; he had missed out on such a wonderful song.
"This song was submitted three or four months ago. Judging from the timeline, Taiwan probably didn't know about it at the time. I persisted for half a month, but in the end, I had no choice but to decline." Wang Jian also felt regretful that such a good song could not be created by him.
"In the six months since I arrived, he has rejected all my proposals in this way. I don't know how many of them were songs like 'Hidden Wings'." Wang Jian's words struck a chord with President Xu.
The project proposal is fine, but letting go of such an excellent piece of music would be a huge loss for the company.
