Chapter 105 The Ye Family's Affairs

Hua Kai thought Ye Yifan's description of the girl was very accurate, and nodded: "Yes, it should be her."

"She didn't give you any trouble, did she? Are you alright?" Ye Yifan asked Hua Kai with concern.

Hua Kai shook her head: "I'm fine. Do you think she can be a match for me? I'm not here to complain, but I think you should know about what happened to you, and I should also know who she is so I can be on guard in the future and prevent her from causing trouble again."

Ye Yifan sighed deeply, parked the car on the side of the road, and then turned to look at Hua Kai and said, "Her name is Fang Nana. She is the fourth daughter of my adoptive parents, so she is like my sister. However, I don't have much contact with her. I was thirteen years old when I reunited with my biological parents. She was only eight years old at that time. After that, I went back to the provincial capital and lived with my grandfather. We only saw each other during festivals and we weren't close at all."

Hua Kai listened to Ye Yifan's words, her mind a little confused. Why did Ye Yifan grow up with adoptive parents since childhood? Why did he recognize his biological parents at the age of thirteen? And why did he live with his grandfather after recognizing his biological parents?

She had already felt that Ye Yifan's experiences were unusual, but now, hearing this information, she was even more surprised.

Looking at Hua Kai's expression, Ye Yifan took a deep breath: "I don't know if it's appropriate to tell you these things now. My upbringing has been somewhat bumpy and not pleasant, without much warmth. Do you really want to hear it?"

Hua Kai looked at Ye Yifan's lowered head and knew that these were his inner wounds. Sometimes, people need a place to confide in others, otherwise, keeping everything bottled up inside can easily lead to illness.

But this requires him to genuinely want to confide in someone; forcing someone to reopen their wounds is even more cruel.

So Hua Kai looked at Ye Yifan and asked, "Do you want to speak now? I'm always ready to listen to you, but I'll wait until you're ready. If you're not ready yet, I can wait."

Ye Yifan looked up at the blooming flowers. She understood him so well and was so understanding. Looking at her, he felt less lonely.

He rarely talked about his family before, but now he wants to talk to her and let her know about his past, because if he wants her to accept him, he has to let her know.

He said to the flowers, "Back then, my adoptive mother and my birth mother gave birth in the same hospital. My adoptive mother had already given birth to three daughters. If this child was also a girl, she might be kicked out by her mother-in-law. The doctor who delivered the baby was my adoptive mother's older sister. When she saw that my adoptive mother had given birth to a girl again, she bribed the nurse and secretly switched me with that girl. When I was thirteen, my adoptive mother's seventh child was finally a boy. From then on, their attitude towards me changed. I had long felt that I didn't belong to their family, so I started to investigate secretly. Later, I found my birth parents."

Hua Kai felt very sad as she listened to these words. She couldn't explain the feeling because she thought that a twelve or thirteen-year-old child could find out about his own background. He must have had a hard time in that family.

She looked at Ye Yifan with warm eyes: "Fortunately, you are smart and found your biological parents."

Ye Yifan's smile was forced: "My biological parents had another son. They were already satisfied with having both a son and a daughter. When I took her back, they couldn't bear to part with the daughter they had raised for thirteen years. They said that these things had nothing to do with the child, so that girl stayed with our family. As for me, I have a withdrawn personality, so I lived alone with my grandfather."

Ye Yifan spoke very concisely afterward, and Hua Kai knew that he had too many grievances. His adoptive parents had a son and didn't want him anymore, and his biological parents couldn't bear to part with the adopted daughter who had always occupied Ye Yifan's place. Nowhere felt like home. How lonely and helpless he felt inside.

Hua Kai grasped Ye Yifan's hand: "Ye Yifan, there are some things and some people we can't change, but you have to believe that there are many people who are genuinely good to you, your grandfather, Xiaoxue, and me. In fact, relationships between people don't necessarily have to be based on blood ties; some outsiders are more important than family."

She didn't ask any more questions, because she was afraid that she didn't know enough and might reopen old wounds. She figured she would gradually learn more in the future.

Looking into Hua Kai's eyes, Ye Yifan felt a warmth, a sense of peace he had never felt before: "Thank you, Hua Kai. Since I met you, I feel less lonely than before." As he spoke, he tried to take Hua Kai's hand.

However, Hua Kai had already pulled her hand back, clenched her fist and said, "Go for it, Ye Yifan, I believe in you."

Ye Yifan's fingers twitched awkwardly: "Then you have to stay with me forever."

Hua Kai nodded: "You're my friend, so of course I'll always be there for you. If you ever need anything and can't find anyone else to talk to, just come to me. I'm very tight-lipped."

"Okay. By the way, if Fang Nana comes to see you again, don't give her any face. Hit her if she needs to, scold her if she needs to, and I'll cover for her if anything happens." Ye Yifan understood that Hua Kai didn't know his feelings, and of course, now was not the time to confess. He would wait until she came of age.

Hearing Ye Yifan's words, Hua Kai smiled again: "I'm relieved to hear you say that. You know me, I can be ruthless."

“It’s not just Fang Nana. No matter who bullies you, you should fight back. If you can’t beat them, just call me. I’ll take care of everything.”

"Ye Yifan, you are so kind. I feel really comfortable listening to you."

Looking at the smiling face of the blooming flowers, Ye Yifan smiled too.

Hua Kai's stomach rumbled at an inopportune moment; she hadn't eaten lunch and was indeed hungry.

Ye Yifan frowned as he looked at the blooming flowers: "Why didn't you say you hadn't eaten lunch earlier?"

Hua Kai scratched her head and said, "I didn't have time to go, did I? You take me back to school, I can eat by myself. You should go back to work quickly, don't be late."

Ye Yifan glanced at his watch: "There's still time. I'll have dinner with you before I leave." With that, he drove straight to the school.

He parked at a snack bar near the school, ate his meal, and then ordered two stir-fries and a bowl of rice for Hua Kai. He ate with Hua Kai until they finished before heading back.

Hua Kai returned to school and sat in her seat, lost in thought. Thinking about Ye Yifan's background, she felt sorry for him. Although he seemed to talk about it lightly, his experiences were so painful. No wonder he didn't care about the environment when he came to her house and just liked the atmosphere. He really needed love. She should give him more care in the future.

Ye Yifan didn't know what Hua Kai was thinking, but he had told Hua Kai about his own affairs today, and he felt much lighter. Over the years, apart from Gu Xiaoxue, he had never talked about these things with anyone else, not even his colleagues or classmates.

Thinking of Hua Kai holding his hand, he smiled as he sat at his desk. The little girl was very caring. How wonderful it would be to be cared for like this for the rest of his life.
