Chapter 110 It's so good to be home

Hua Wanjiang put down his tools: "Your mom made chicken stew with mushrooms and added your favorite glass noodles."

Hua Kai smiled and said, "Then I'll have to eat more today."

Hua Qingyi said, "You need to eat more. Studying is tiring. How did you do on your midterm exams?"

Hua Kai was very confident: "I did well on the exam, and the results will be out on Monday."

Gu Lanyan came out and said, "Kaikai is back. Come inside and help Mom put the table down. Your brother should be back soon. Let's get ready to eat."

Hua Kai agreed, went inside, put down her schoolbag, washed her hands, and then put the table down to get her bowl and chopsticks to eat.

Soon Hua Qingyang returned and began reporting on the day's events, making the house very lively.

At the dinner table, Hua Wanhe brought up Hua Lin's wedding: "Hua Lin is getting married next Thursday. If Kai Kai is busy with school, I think he shouldn't come back. Our family can go, so one more Kai Kai won't make a difference."

Gu Lanyan also said, "Anyway, Kaikai and Hualin aren't that great either. If they don't come back, they don't come back. It's not the weekend anyway. Studying is the priority."

Hua Kai really wanted to come back because she wanted to see Hua Lin marry someone she didn't want to marry.

So Hua Kai said, "Mom and Dad, we'll see how things go. If it doesn't work out, I'll take half a day off and come back to join in the fun."

Hua Wanhe said, "Then you should make sure you have the time and don't let it interfere with your studies."

“Well, I promise I won’t,” Hua Kai said.

Gu Lanyan sighed: "Wang Shengli is no decent person. Hua Lin will suffer in the future."

Hua Qingyang said, "I heard that Wang Shengli deliberately took my second uncle to gamble, hoping to control him so that he would owe the Wang family money and they would no longer respect them."

Hua Kai knew exactly what had happened, but she couldn't say. She only said, "Just listen, don't spread rumors, understand?"

Hua Qingyang nodded: "I know, I'm not stupid."

Hua Kai picked up a chicken heart and placed it in Hua Qingyang's bowl: "You are what you eat, let's nourish our hearts and minds."

Everyone laughed at Hua Kai's words. Hua Qingyang puffed out his cheeks and said that Hua Kai was bullying him.

After dinner, Hua Kai told Hua Qingyi about the two new jobs she had taken on. Hua Qingyi listened attentively, and looking at the sketches Hua Kai had drawn, he started drawing them himself.

Hua Wanhe watched the child study without disturbing him, and then went out to tidy up the storeroom.

As darkness fell, Hua Qingyi turned on the light and continued drawing.

I hadn't drawn many before the power went out.

Hua Wanhe entered the house: "Hey, why is the power out again? There have been a lot of power outages in the village lately."

Gu Lanyan said, "I heard someone stole cables. The police are currently arresting this person, and they should be caught in a few days."

Hua Kai didn't know if the theft of the cable was related to the power outage. Anyway, since the power was out, she didn't bother to light candles to study. Instead, she went to sit in the yard and looked at the sky and the stars.

On autumn nights, the sky is exceptionally clear, and the starry sky is incredibly beautiful.

Hua Qingyi and Hua Qingyang saw that Hua Kai was sitting in the courtyard looking at the stars, so they brought out small stools and looked at the starry sky with her.

Hua Kai started telling them about constellations.

The next day, Gu Lanyan went to the market, so Hua Kai helped her with chores early in the morning. Although Gu Lanyan said it wasn't necessary, Hua Kai was still willing to help her mother with more chores at home.

While working, Gu Lanyan talked about Li Jing's family: "Your Aunt Feng and your uncle came to our house a few days ago and asked your dad and me a lot about going to the market. I took your Aunt Feng with me to the market the last two times. She wants to try selling roasted peanuts and hazelnuts because the cost is low and there is no risk."

Hua Kai still supports this; it's their choice. She remembered a recipe for roasted melon seeds that she had noticed on an app in her previous life, and she thought it could help Jiang Lanfeng.

So Hua Kai told her mother about some of the recipes she had seen in her previous life, and asked Gu Lanyan to tell Jiang Lanfeng about them.

While her mother went to the market, Huakai washed all the dirty clothes at home.

By the time Gu Lanyan returned, Hua Kai had already prepared lunch.

After dinner, Gu Lanyan took out the clothes she had made for Huakai over the past few days and asked Huakai to try them on.

They were all made according to the drawings made before the flowers bloomed: two casual trench coats, one long and one short, a pair of wide-leg pants, and a white shirt with three-quarter sleeves. She also quite likes white shirts because they are easy to match.

Looking at the white shirt, she thought of Ye Yifan again, thinking that she would design a jacket for him when she had time and ask her mother to make it for him. After all, he was such a good clothes hanger that he looked good in anything.

In the afternoon, Hua Kai and Hua Qingyi returned to the city relatively early. Hua Kai wanted to go to the department store to look at the supplies for making cold skewers and Sichuan-style chicken, and prepare everything she could to help Zhang Miao so that she could start earning money as soon as possible. On the way, Hua Kai also told Hua Qingyi about Zhang Miao's situation. Hua Qingyi himself came from a poor background, so he understood her situation very well and said that he would help Zhang Miao with Hua Kai.

Unexpectedly, as soon as the brother and sister arrived downstairs at their rented apartment, they saw Zhang Miao waiting for them.

When Zhang Miao saw them return, he happily went to greet them: "Huakai, Brother Qingyi, you're back."

Hua Kai looked at Zhang Miao and said, "I was thinking of having you help with the housework more, but I didn't expect you to come back so early."

Zhang Miao said, "Our family has finished the autumn harvest. My mom can manage the household by herself now. To be honest, we're short of money, so I came back. I won't mince words with you."

Hua Kai smiled and said, "I was afraid you would just be polite with me. I already told my brother that since you're back, he doesn't need to come along. Let's buy materials in our two districts."

As she spoke, Hua Kai handed her schoolbag to Hua Qingyi: "Brother, take this back for me."

Hua Qingyi took the schoolbag and said, "Do you have enough money? If not, I'll give you some more."

Hua Kai said, "That's enough. The ingredients don't cost much. We can buy a little meat and vegetables today to try the taste, and buy the rest in large quantities tomorrow morning. They'll be fresh."

Hua Qingyi said, "Alright, then you can go ahead."

Zhang Miao thanked Hua Qingyi and went to the department store with Hua Kai.

Upon arriving at the department store, Hua Kai first looked for a place to sell skewers. If they couldn't find any, she would have to find a place that makes wrought iron to order custom-made skewers, which would be more expensive and would also require recycling. She could only put them in bags to take them with her, which would be relatively troublesome.

Fortunately, they quickly found a shop that had bamboo skewers. The shop owner had ordered the wrong kind and thought he wouldn't be able to sell them, but unexpectedly, someone actually bought them.

Huakai bought all ten bundles, one hundred stalks per bundle. Huakai told the shopkeeper that if they sold well, they would need a large quantity in the future.

After buying the skewers, they weren't in a hurry to do anything else. Instead of taking the skewers with them, the two told the shop owner that they would come back to pick up the rest after they finished buying the skewers.

Afterwards, the two went to buy seasonings, some chicken, chicken hearts and gizzards, and some potatoes. They quickly bought everything they needed. Finally, they bought some plastic bags and several bowls, then took the skewers and returned to their rented house with bags full of things.

When they arrived home, Hua Qingyi had already cleared out every available space in the kitchen.
