Chapter 42 With a Halo

Hua Kai laughed at Zhang Miao's words: "Is it really that big of a deal? No matter how good-looking someone is, they're still just a person. How many more eyes can they have?"

Yu Hongdi looked at Hua Kai pleadingly: "Xiao Kai, can you please understand us ordinary people? It's so hard for us to meet handsome guys like this."

Hua Kai could only say, "He's quite busy with work, so I don't know when he'll be here. But I'll definitely introduce you to him when I have the chance, okay? You're my good friends, after all."

Yu Hongdi jumped up happily: "Huakai, you are so kind."

While they were making a ruckus, the class monitor came over and said, "Still happy? There's an English test in the first period this afternoon."

This sentence was more effective than anything else. Zhang Miao and Yu Hongdi both waved to Hua Kai and hurried back to their tables to read.

Hua Kai smiled. Every student fears exams and tests, but she wasn't worried about exams; she was thinking about how to write a good contract.

She was still studying the contract when a classmate came in and called Huakai, saying that Director Gu was at the door and wanted her to leave.

Hua Kai quickly shoved the contract under her notebook and then left.

When Gu Xiaoxue saw the flowers blooming, she handed over the bag in her hand: "Brother Fan asked me to bring this to you."

Hua Kai took the bag: "Thank you, Director Gu."

Gu Xiaoxue originally had many questions to ask Huakai, but Ye Yifan told her before leaving not to affect Huakai's studies, so after thinking it over, she decided not to ask: "Go back and prepare for class."

Hua Kai agreed, picked up the bag, and went back to her class, also curious about what Ye Yifan had brought her.

Back in his seat, he looked at the bread, Jianlibao drink, and chocolate in the bag—all to replenish his energy and stave off hunger. It seemed he truly understood his neglect of food and sleep; he hadn't eaten, and it wasn't appropriate to eat anything with a strong smell in the classroom. These things were indeed very useful in this crucial moment.

Thinking of Ye Yifan, Hua Kai felt that this person was indeed blessed by God. He was good-looking, quick-witted, insightful, and good at investing. She owed him more and more favors, which she would have to repay in the future.

But since I already owed him, I wasn't embarrassed. I quickly ate a piece of bread and drank a beverage, which made my stomach feel much better.

Of course, Zhou Xinrui was sulking all noon because she had seen Hua Kai talking to the handsome man driving the Jeep at the school gate, and even riding in the car with Gu Xiaoxue. Why did Hua Kai know such outstanding people? Whether they were relatives or friends, it made her envious and jealous.

Also, isn't Gu Xiaoxue being too kind to Hua Kai? She's the director of the Political Education Department, why is she always coming to see Hua Kai?

However, Hua Kai wasn't thinking about any of that; her mind was entirely on the contract.

In the afternoon, I took an English test and finished the paper in half a class period. Then I started thinking about the contract.

The last period was for self-study, so I finished writing the contract. I didn't have my own seal, so I just need to sign it tomorrow.

After school, she and Zhang Miao went to the cafeteria for lunch. After eating, they returned to school but didn't go back to their dormitory because they had nothing to do and thought it better to go back to class to study.

Zhang Miao and her deskmate Yu Hongdi were both not very good at English, so Hua Kai agreed to tutor them in English during her spare time.

Yu Hongdi went home for dinner, so he would be back a little late. Hua Kai first explained some simple knowledge points to Zhang Miao. Although Yu Hongdi's English was not good either, it was still better than Zhang Miao's. Urban students are exposed to English earlier, and Zhang Miao's English scores were really obtained by rote memorization. This would be a problem for her in the college entrance examination. Therefore, Hua Kai wanted to start teaching her from the basics.

The two had only been talking for a short while when someone at the door called out "Hua Kai!"

Hua Kai told Zhang Miao to do the practice questions on her own first, and then she left the classroom.

When I got to the door, I saw Guan Rui standing there with some workbooks in his hand: "Guan Rui, did you need something?" Since there weren't any titles like "senior" back then, we were all classmates, so it was fine to just call each other by name.

Guan Rui handed over the workbook in his hand: "I have a few practice books here that I didn't use in my first year of high school. It would be a waste to leave them lying around, so I brought them to you."

It's hard to refuse Hua Kai, since he clearly stated that it's something he didn't need in his first year of high school, and now that he's in his second year, it's definitely not useful anymore.

So Hua Kai accepted the gift with both hands and said, "Thank you, then I won't be polite." After saying that, she noticed the military green sketchbook on Guan Rui's back, which reminded her of her days studying art in her previous life, so she asked again, "Are you an art student?"

Guan Rui said, "Yes, I started learning to draw in the third grade of elementary school."

Hua Kai had always thought Guan Rui was quite artistic, and this time she realized, "No wonder you have a different air about you; it turns out you have an artistic flair."

Guan Rui smiled and said, "You flatter me. By the way, I go to the Children's Palace to paint in the evening, so if you need anything, come find me during the day. I asked a few friends to help you find some first-year high school practice problems. They can bring them tomorrow, and I'll get them for you then."

Hua Kai quickly thanked Guan Rui, "Thank you, I won't be polite."

Guan Rui glanced at his watch and said, "I have to go to the Children's Palace. See you tomorrow."

Hua Kai waved to Guan Rui: "Goodbye, senior."

After Guan Rui left, Hua Kai went back to explain the problem to Zhang Miao. However, Zhou Xinrui saw Hua Kai talking to Guan Rui again. She knew Guan Rui; they were from the same middle school. Guan Rui had always been popular with girls at school. How could he know Hua Kai?

These issues made Zhou Xinrui feel increasingly uneasy, and she felt more and more inferior to Hua Kai. The feeling of being surpassed by a rural student made her feel unbalanced, and she began to think about what to do.

The next day, Huakai was still looking forward to signing the contract, because signing the contract would allow her to receive 70% of the design fee. The remaining 30% was originally supposed to be settled after all the design drawings were completed, but in order to reassure the client, Huakai decided to keep 10% until the entire project was finished. This would also put the client at ease and allow her to refer new clients.

At noon, Hua went to Fuze Community after school started to finalize the revised drawings with Section Chief Cheng and his wife, and then signed the contract.

The design fee was 115 yuan in total. 70% of that was 80.5 yuan. Huakai received 80 yuan. Holding this money, she felt very at ease.

Today is Wednesday. Hua Kai calculated that she could finish the remaining drawings in three or four days because the sample was complete. However, it just so happens to coincide with the weekend. She didn't go home last week, but she still wants to go back this week. In addition, she wants to make her first order as perfect as possible. So she made an appointment with Section Chief Cheng and his wife to deliver the completed drawings next Monday at noon. She will then ask them to find a foreman, communicate with the foreman herself, and then let them start work.

After agreeing on the terms, Hua Kai took the money and went to the department store to buy a digital watch. It was really inconvenient not having enough time. However, she didn't have time to eat, so she had to hurry back to school. Fortunately, she had the food that Ye Yifan had given her yesterday. Although he wasn't very nice-talking, he was quite considerate.
