Chapter Nine: Not a Match

Those watching Hua Kai felt deep sympathy. Everyone in the village knew about their family's situation and had seen Zheng Shuzhen bullying Hua Wanjiang with her own son over the years. The discussions grew even louder at this point.

Hua Kai suppressed a proud smile, secretly rubbed her legs, and glanced around to see if there were enough onlookers.

However, by chance, she met a pair of eyes in the crowd. It was the same handsome man she had met when she jumped out of Wang Shengli's window.

This was quite an awkward situation. She winked at the man as a greeting, then quickly turned her attention back to the battle.

The man was even more impressed with the girl; she really knew how to act. But after learning the whole story, he understood her. If this girl didn't have some talent, she might have been ruined. Luckily, she was alright.

At this moment, Hua Lin's mother, Huo Yanping, was so angry at Hua Kai's words that she was about to explode. She put her hands on her hips and pointed at Hua Kai, saying, "Hua Kai, you little slut, how dare you frame me? You're the one who hit me." As she spoke, Huo Yanping went to scratch Hua Kai.

Hua Kai certainly wouldn't fight back at this point; she had to play the victim today. She quickly hid in the crowd; with so many people around, there was no way she could get hit.

As she ran, she shouted, "Second Aunt, I was wrong. I shouldn't have disagreed with helping Sister Linlin with what she was doing. Anyway, whatever it is, as long as you let me go, I'll go, okay? Please don't hit me anymore. Last time you broke the fire poker, and I couldn't get out of bed for three days. I'm really scared."

What does it mean to create something out of nothing? This is it: someone runs around making up lies, having a great time, and now that the facts are right in front of them, others naturally believe what they hear and see.

Unable to catch Hua Kai, Huo Yanping didn't give up and chased after her relentlessly: "Hua Kai, you damned little brat, I'll teach you to say another word and I'll tear your mouth apart."

Hua Kai was overjoyed. Suppressing her laughter, she ran and continued shouting, "Second Aunt, please don't hit my face anymore! The last time I said something that upset you, you hit my face so hard it was swollen. I couldn't eat for days and could only drink porridge."

At this moment, Hua Wanjiang and Gu Lanyan were both stunned. What time period was Hua Kai talking about? They didn't know. No, this can't be real. This child is...

The couple seemed to understand what their daughter was doing at this moment. They looked at each other and wondered how this child had become so clever. From beginning to end, she hadn't been hit once, and now everyone in the village was looking at Huo Yanping with murderous intent.

Soon, Li Fengxian, the village's women's director, also received the news. She was a straightforward woman and immediately stopped Huo Yanping: "Second sister-in-law, no matter what, you can't chase after a junior like this."

Huo Yanping was panting heavily: "Director Li, you don't know how hateful this brat is. She framed our Linlin. Her heart is black. Shouldn't she be beaten?"

Li Fengxian frowned at Huo Yanping: "I've investigated Hua Lin and Wang Shengli's matter. I just came from the Wang family. They admitted that they were just drunk. Your two families were originally engaged. The Wang family also said that they would guarantee the wedding on the 18th of next month. This matter is not a good thing to look at. Other families would have to keep it under control. But you, you've made a mess of things. Aren't you ashamed?"

Hua Kai was in a great mood as she looked at Director Li Fengxian. She had thought that today would be a battle between herself and Zheng Shuzhen's gang, but unexpectedly, this assistant kept coming out to help. It seemed that she was lucky in this life.

Huo Yanping was so angry she could barely breathe: "Director Li, it's really not what you think. It was all Hua Kai's doing."

Hua Kai stood beside Director Li, looking aggrieved, and said, "Director Li, I've taken the blame for Sister Linlin countless times over the years, but this time it's just too obvious. Even if I take the blame, do you think anyone will believe me? My grandma told me to say that I knocked Sister Linlin and Wang Shengli unconscious and put them on the bed, but that's simply unrealistic, isn't it? Besides, they're engaged and getting married next month. Why would I do that? And so many people saw it. Even if I take the blame myself, no one will believe me, right?"

Director Li sighed and said, "That's right. Justice is in the hearts of the people, and everyone can see it clearly. I originally thought it wasn't a glorious thing, so I secretly went to your second uncle's house to tell them to hurry up and prepare the dowry so that the wedding could be held next month, and then no one would say anything. Who would have thought that I would see you two making a scene here?"

Hua Kai bowed to Director Li and said, "I'm sorry, Director Li, for causing you trouble."

Director Li looked at the well-behaved Hua Kai and felt sorry for her: "You have a hard life. You have been bullied by Hua Lin a lot over the years. Don't worry about today's matter. I will stand up for you."

At this point, Zheng Shuzhen became unhappy: "Director Li, what do you mean by this? You're taking sides."

Li Fengxian looked at Zheng Shuzhen and laughed angrily: "Auntie, what you're saying is interesting. I've been the women's director for seven years, and no one has ever said I'm unfair. Today's events are clearly laid out here. Are you going to frame me too?"

Hua Kai spoke up at just the right moment, saying to Zheng Shuzhen, "Grandma, I know you don't want Sister Linlin to marry Wang Shengli because Wang Shengli gambles and his family is in debt. But you can't frame the village officials just because Director Li didn't help you tell the truth, can you?"

Although she was explaining with a sense of grievance, her words revealed the true feelings of Zheng Shuzhen and the others.

The onlookers, upon hearing this, became even more animated in their discussion, many of them beaming with excitement, as if they were about to launch a full-scale denunciation rally.

Of course, Hua Kai's words made Li Fengxian feel comfortable. She said to Hua Kai, "It's alright, Hua Kai. I have done nothing wrong all these years, so I'm not afraid of what anyone might say."

Hua Kai said to Zheng Shuzhen, "Grandma, I'm giving you some advice for your own good. They're already sleeping together. If they don't get married, wouldn't that be even worse for Sister Linlin?"

Zheng Shuzhen was so angry at Huakai's "kind advice" that she felt like her lungs were about to explode: "You, Huakai, let me tell you, this is not over yet."

After saying that, she grabbed Hua Zhongzhi and asked, "You just watch without saying anything? You watched Linlin grow up. You don't believe what she says, but you believe others?"

Hua Zhongzhi read it from beginning to end, but he was a little confused. At home, he believed what Hua Lin said, but what he saw in front of him made him waver, because what the women's director said made sense.

He frowned and asked Zheng Shuzhen, "Is there some misunderstanding here?"

Zheng Shuzhen knew she couldn't count on Hua Zhongzhi, and leaving now would be like fleeing in disarray, which would look even worse. But staying would be pointless and would only invite more criticism.

So she could only clutch her chest and say, "My heart isn't feeling well, second son's wife, help me home."

Hua Kai looked at Zheng Shuzhen and didn't forget to add insult to injury: "Grandma, your heart is on the left. If you feel uncomfortable on your right side, it might be a problem with your lungs. You need to go to the hospital to get it checked out."

Zheng Shuzhen really felt pain in the left side of her chest at this moment. This time, she was angry but also heartbroken. She glared at Hua Kai and said, "If you don't speak, no one will think you're mute."
