Chapter Sixteen was nowhere to be found.

After hearing Hua Kai's words, Gu Lan Yan sighed again, "Look, I told you that those who go to school are different, they know more. I never thought you would have to take the exam again next year. You missed it this year, there's nothing we can do. It's all your dad and my fault for being so incompetent."

"Mom, don't always think like that. You and Dad have been good enough to me..." Hua Kai choked up as she spoke.

But at that moment, his younger brother, Hua Qingyang, ran in: "I'm so thirsty!"

After saying that, he went to the water vat, scooped up a ladle of water and started drinking, gulping it down like a little water buffalo.

Gu Lanyan frowned as she looked at him: "Didn't you go up the mountain to dig for medicinal herbs with your dad and brother? Why are you back?"

Hua Qingyang scratched his head: "I used too much force at the beginning, and I couldn't work anymore before noon, so Dad told me to come back first."

Gu Lanyan said, both amused and exasperated, "Isn't this child a little slow-witted? He doesn't even know how to stretch himself properly when he's working."

Hua Kai couldn't help but laugh as she looked at her younger brother: "Are you hungry? Have a wrap to replenish your energy." As she spoke, she handed her brother a wrap.

Hua Qingyang, holding the rolled pancake, asked, "Sis, did you buy this?"

Hua Kai didn't explain how she got there: "Try it and see if it's good."

Hua Qingyang took a bite, and before he could even swallow, he nodded repeatedly, "Delicious, delicious." But after a couple of bites, he handed it to Gu Lanyan, "Mom, you and my sister should eat too."

Gu Lanyan didn't take the pancake, but smiled and said, "Your sister made these, there's plenty to eat, go ahead, there's more in the pan."

Hua Qingyang looked at Hua Kai in disbelief: "Sister, really?"

Hua Kai smiled as she looked at her younger brother, who loved to share: "Well, why don't you lift the lid and see for yourself? I guarantee you'll eat this stuff until you don't want to eat it anymore."

She thought about how if they had to sell this in the future, the family would probably have enough to eat, so she said this to her younger brother.

Hua Qingyang didn't understand what Hua Kai meant: "Sister, how can I not want to eat something so delicious? Even if you make it every day, I still can't get enough."

Looking at the two children, Gu Lanyan felt so at ease: "These children have grown up, and I suddenly feel different."

Hua Kai knew in her heart why things were different, but she couldn't say it; she just smiled.

Hua Qingyang ate with great relish, finishing one and then taking another.

In the afternoon, Hua Kai and Gu Lanyan started making an insulated box and asked Hua Qingyang to buy plastic bags. Hua Qingyang was so happy to know that his family was going to set up a stall to sell pancakes and that he would be able to eat them every day. He ran off to buy them.

I made a total of twenty pancakes today. After giving some to others, I still have ten left, enough for dinner.

So there's no need to cook anything in the evening. Just boil some porridge and light the kang (heated brick bed) at the same time. It doesn't take much time. Once the fire is lit and the pot is boiling, Gu Lanyan and Huakai can continue working on the insulated box.

As dusk fell, Hua Wanjiang and Hua Qingyi returned.

Hua Kai greeted them and helped them put their dirty clothes in the laundry tub, then gave them water to wash their hands.

Before the flowers could even bloom, and people were already talking about going to the market and setting up stalls, Hua Qingyang couldn't hold back any longer and started doing it right after Hua Wanjiang.

He was just talking incoherently, and Hua Wanjiang hadn't seen the thing either, so he was completely confused by Hua Qingyang and looked at Hua Kai.

Hua Kai quickly explained the whole process of making the crepes to her father, Hua Wanjiang.

Then he added, "Dad, Mom and I had the neighbors try it this afternoon, and they all said it was delicious. Anyway, the cost isn't high. Mom and I will go to the market to try it the day after tomorrow. If it doesn't work, we won't lose anything."

Hua Wanjiang never expected that after being away for a day, the mother and daughter at home would accomplish such a big thing: "No, are you really going to set up a stall?"

At this moment, Gu Lanyan also came over: "I initially thought it was just a spur-of-the-moment thing, but seeing the child make the pancakes, I really think it's a good idea. You all wash your hands, come in and try it, and I guarantee you'll think it's feasible too."

Hua Wanjiang and Hua Qingyi quickly washed their hands and went inside.

Hua Qingyang quickly served the rolled pancakes to his father and older brother, saying, "They're so delicious! Our family can eat pancakes every day from now on."

Hua Wanjiang and his son were a little surprised by the appearance of the pancakes, because they were too uniform and looked exactly the same. Unlike the pancakes they made at home, which varied in size, these were all as uniform as if they had been made from the same mold.

They tasted it and found that it not only looked good, but also tasted really good. The main thing was that it was different from what they made at home. It was very rich and tasted really good.

After swallowing, Hua Qingyi looked at Hua Kai and said, "Kai Kai, your cooking is amazing."

Hua Wanjiang looked at his daughter with puzzlement: "Kaikai, how much work did you do for others to learn such good cooking skills? You must have suffered a lot, right?"

Hua Kai realized that her father was a very meticulous person, so she quickly explained, "Dad, it's not as complicated as you think. I just have a good brain and remembered the recipe proportions. My mom even chopped all the vegetables today. My skills are too rudimentary. I used my brain, and my mom used her hands."

She was now thankful that it was her mother who chopped the vegetables, otherwise she would have had an even harder time explaining herself.

Upon hearing this, Hua Wanjiang laughed: "See, I told you our daughter is quick-witted and can do anything."

Hua Kai has gotten used to her parents' pampering and praise in the past two days. Although her family is not wealthy, she feels like a little princess.

Gu Lanyan glanced at the clock on the cabinet: "Dinner's ready. Let's talk while we eat."

Hua Kai and Hua Qingyang helped Gu Lanyan get the bowls and chopsticks, while Hua Qingyi moved the table to the side, put down a stool, and then they started eating.

At the dinner table, Hua Wanjiang and Gu Lanyan couldn't help but say several times that Hua Kai's cooking skills were really good.

Hua Kai also started planning ahead, saying that she had also learned how to make smoked meat pancakes, and if the pancakes sold well, she could make other things.

Hua Wanjiang was also very happy because everyone knew that digging for medicinal herbs was seasonal, but there was no market day. He had previously thought about going to work on a construction site with someone after a while, but if he could earn money at home, wouldn't that be much better than leaving his hometown?

The meal was very enjoyable. After finishing the meal and cleaning up, Hua Wanjiang secured the insulated box that Hua Kai and Gu Lanyan had made.

The next day, Hua Kai had nothing to do, so she decided to go to the village committee to find Captain Ye, whom Li Jing had mentioned, to see if he was the one who had helped her.

Upon arriving at the village committee's gate, she saw a young man in his early twenties wearing glasses who didn't seem to be from the village. She politely asked, "Hello, is Captain Ye here?"

The young man with glasses looked Hua Kai up and down before saying, "Captain Ye went to the city to submit a report and will be back in a couple of days. Is it urgent for you to see him?"

Hua Kai hadn't expected such bad luck. She shook her head and said, "No rush. I'll come back when he gets back. Thank you."

The young man waved with a smile: "You're welcome, take care."
