Chapter Thirty-Seven: Never Afraid of Trouble

After finishing evening self-study and returning to the dormitory, there was still some time before lights out, so Hua Kai wasn't in a hurry to wash up. She sat on the lower bunk chatting with Zhang Miao and the others. It was the beginning of the semester, and the studies weren't too intense, so everyone was quite relaxed.

Zhou Xinrui didn't come back to stay tonight, so Wang Lingling came over to talk to Huakai and the others. However, because she always followed Zhou Xinrui around, she didn't have much to talk about with them. The more she wanted to participate, the less she could say anything.

Hua Kai didn't want to get too close to girls like Wang Lingling, so she didn't say much to her.

Although she doesn't want to form any cliques, she also won't try to please everyone.

Hua Kai slept well that night. Although she was in a new environment, she adapted very well.

The next day, after breakfast, she arrived at the classroom. There were already quite a few students there. She returned to her seat, took out her book for the first period, and stared blankly at the students coming and going at the door.

A moment later, Zhou Xinrui came in. She was wearing a pair of the most fashionable denim overalls, a bright red puff-sleeved shirt, and a large green bow hair clip in her ponytail.

To be honest, this outfit really doesn't fit Huakai's aesthetic sense. After all, she worked as a designer for many years in her previous life, so she would subconsciously pay attention to color matching and such.

Zhou Xinrui entered the room with an air of arrogance, greeted her classmates loudly, and attracted everyone's attention.

When Wang Lingling saw Zhou Xinrui come in, she said in a particularly flattering tone, "Zhou Xinrui, your clothes are really beautiful."

Zhou Xinrui feigned modesty and said, "I wear whatever my mom buys for me. Does it really look good?"

Wang Lingling nodded enviously: "Beautiful, exceptionally beautiful."

Zhou Xinrui and Wang Lingling were deskmates, and their seats were in the middle of the classroom. After she sat down, she talked loudly with the two girls in front of her about buying clothes.

Her seatmate in front of her was also a day student. Urban students have more in common. In this era when the internet and transportation are not well developed, rural students do have less experience. So, day students and boarding students sometimes help each other out.

Hua Kai wasn't particularly interested in this. After all, she had experienced too much and was more mature. She turned to look out the window, where the sunlight shone warmly on her face.

In September, the willow trees outside the window had already begun to shed their leaves, looking somewhat like those old photographs.

Class started soon, and Hua Kai began to listen attentively.

After the second period, it was time for morning exercises. Zhang Miao and Yu Hongdi came over to greet Hua Kai and went to the playground with them.

When the bell rang for recess, students from each class lined up.

Hua Kai came later, so she stood directly in her class. The girls were at the very back of the line. She was of medium to high height, so it didn't look out of place for her to be standing at the back.

At this moment, the homeroom teacher, Wang Xiangjun, came over and told Hua Kai to stay at the back and learn some gymnastics first, and then she could join the girls' line later.

Huakai isn't afraid of learning anything new because she has a photographic memory; she can remember most of what she sees after just one look, and she can master it after practicing for a couple of days.

She loves her current body; it's young and vibrant. In this life, she wants to take good care of everything about herself.

As the music for the fifth set of People's Broadcast Gymnastics began, the flowers started moving as well.

Looking at the students and teachers dressed in the style of the 1990s, she felt a sense of belonging.

After finishing their morning exercises, the physical education representative organized the students into rows, and then each class followed the other back to their classrooms for lessons.

After the third class, someone called out to Huakai at the door: "Huakai, Director Gu is looking for you."

The students at this school may not know the principal, but everyone knows Director Gu of the Political Education Office. After all, the principal doesn't have much interaction with the students, but the Political Education Office is different.

This sound made all the students in the class look at Hua Kai, because in the students' minds, it was never a good thing for the director of the political education department to talk to anyone.

When Hua Kai heard that it was Gu Xiaoxue looking for her, she quickly put down her pen and went out.

Seeing the flowers bloom, Gu Xiaoxue asked, "How are you? Are you all settling in?"

Hua Kai looked at Gu Xiaoxue, who now exuded a certain authority, and found her to be very much the same as the director of the Political Education Department in her previous memory.

At the classroom door, speaking to the director of the Political Education Department, she was still very serious and nervous: "I'm adapting well, thank you for your concern, Director Gu."

Gu Xiaoxue said, "I'm just here to take a look. I'll get used to it. If you need anything, just come to me."

Hua Kai agreed, "I understand, I won't stand on ceremony with Director Gu."

Gu Xiaoxue nodded: "Okay, let's go back to class then."

Hua Kai bowed slightly to Gu Xiaoxue to express her gratitude, then returned to the classroom. She hadn't expected Gu Xiaoxue to be so loyal, coming to the classroom to find her, which was a way of telling others that she knew Director Gu.

At this moment, the students who were at the door and in the corridor had also heard the conversation between the two. They all knew that Hua Kai knew Gu Xiaoxue and that she hadn't made a mistake that led Director Gu to look for her.

When Hua Kai returned to her seat, Zhang Miao and the others who knew her gathered around and asked her how she knew Director Gu.

Hua Kai didn't go into details, only saying that her friend knew Director Gu, so she asked Director Gu to take care of her.

This break between classes passed by very lively.

After lunch, Li Xiang and Zhang Weifang went to the department store to buy things, while Hua Kai and Zhang Miao returned to their dormitory.

As soon as she entered the dormitory, she saw Zhou Xinrui folding clothes by the bed. When she saw Huakai come in, she faced Huakai and said sarcastically, "Some people are so poor that they can barely afford to go to school, yet they are so concerned about saving face. I bet they sold everything they owned to buy these new clothes. It's ridiculous."

This is clearly referring to Hua Kai. Hua Kai doesn't cause trouble, but he's not afraid of trouble either.

She walked to Zhou Xinrui's bedside: "It's none of your business how I conduct myself. Watch your mouth."

Zhou Xinrui crossed her arms and looked at Hua Kai: "What, did I hit a nerve? People should know their own limitations and do what they are given."

She had been holding her anger in all day yesterday, so when she got home last night, she took out all her nice clothes, just so she could suppress the blooming of the flowers today.

Hua Kai looked at Zhou Xinrui with genuine contempt: "You're a slut who judges others by their appearance. Don't assume everyone is as despicable as you. Your jealousy only shows your inferiority complex. I don't need to pretend. Unlike you, I don't need to use these things to disguise myself. I'm capable enough on my own."

Zhou Xinrui didn't expect that Hua Kai had hit her sore spot, but she wasn't scared or nervous at all. She looked Hua Kai up and down and said, "Even if I'm pretending, I have the means to do so. Unlike you, you're wearing cheap shoes. No matter how nice your clothes are, it just shows that you're not classy."

Hua Kai laughed when she heard this: "What, you think my clothes are pretty? Expensive? Looks like I need to be more confident. Even wearing clothes made of fabric that costs only a few dollars a foot, people are so envious. I must have good looks. By the way, it also shows that Grandma Zhang next door is good at handicrafts. Her clothes are prettier than those sold in department stores."

"What? What did you say? You bought the fabric to make this dress? How is that possible? I don't believe it." Zhou Xinrui was genuinely surprised, staring at Hua Kai in disbelief.
