Chapter Twenty: I Won't Kill You

Although Huakai didn't want to waste time repeating a year, there were indeed many things she couldn't be sure of right now, so she had to leave herself a way out; she had to continue her studies.

Hua Wanjiang took a deep breath: "The child is sensible, I won't say anything more, but it's better to do this sooner rather than later, why don't you go tomorrow?"

Hua Kai said, "Dad, tomorrow is Sunday, and we won't be able to find the teacher if we go. I'll go the day after tomorrow. I'll go to the market with you the day after tomorrow, otherwise I won't feel at ease with you."

Gu Lanyan spoke up: "Kaikai, you can go to the city the day after tomorrow. I'll make the pancakes myself from start to finish a few times over the next couple of days. Once I'm familiar with them, your dad and I can go to the market the day after tomorrow. We're adults, how can we expect the child to do everything?"

Hua Kai thought it was fine, since her parents would be running the business anyway, and as long as she could do it well, selling things from a cart wouldn't be a problem, especially since they had already opened up the market.

So she said, "That's fine too. Going a day earlier might give us a better chance." She was indeed anxious. Going a day earlier would give her more hope. She had many ways to make money, but she wasn't so confident about going to school.

After everything was settled, Hua Wanjiang went to return the bicycle, while Hua Kai and Gu Lanyan busied themselves in the kitchen.

While watching Gu Lanyan make rolled pancakes, Hua Kai also tried smoking the meat. She wrote and made at the same time, constantly tasting and recording the flavors.

Before evening, Gu Lanyan's crepes passed the review of Hua Kai and Hua Wanjiang.

The smoked meat is ready, but there are too many rolls, so I won't make smoked meat pancakes today. I'll just cut some meat slices and let my family taste it.

The next day, Gu Lanyan made two more rolls, and they were perfect. Hua Kai was completely relieved.

In the evening, Hua Kai also made the smoked meat pancakes, which were well received by her family. When she returned from the city, she would teach Gu Lanyan how to make them, so that they could sell both kinds of pancakes together.

After dinner, Hua Kai went to the village committee again, wanting to ask Captain Ye if he had returned.

When she got near the brigade, she saw several village girls lingering at the entrance. She guessed that they were there to see Captain Ye. She was surprised that the girls were still quite open-minded at this time. She didn't want to go over there, so she continued walking.

At this moment, under the setting sun, the rice paddies at the entrance of the village have a unique beauty.

Seeing that it was still early, she took a walk towards the rice paddies. After walking for a while, she felt someone following her.

She wasn't afraid at all; she was quite confident in her skills. Three or five men wouldn't be a match for her, so what was there to be afraid of?

After walking a few more steps, she suddenly stopped and turned around.

When Hua Kai saw the two people behind her, she felt no sense of crisis at all. People like Hua Lin and Hua Qingsheng were no match for her.

She waved the twig she had just picked up in her hand, smiling at the two people opposite her: "Hua Lin, are you looking for revenge?" Today, she was not only going to beat them up for the original owner, but also to add some spice to their lives.

Hua Lin looked smug: "If I don't seek revenge, am I supposed to treat you to a meal? There's no one here to help you today. I'll beat you to death. If you won't let me have a good time, I won't let you have one either."

The siblings, having listened to Zheng Shuzhen's advice, didn't dare to openly seek out Hua Kai, so they secretly followed her, finally finding an opportunity when no one was around.

Hua Kai wasn't worried at all, and looked at Hua Lin with a smile: "You guys? You think you can beat me to death? I suggest you kowtow to me three times now, and I might let you go." She was also very happy to be able to give them a good beating in this secluded place.

Hua Qingsheng, who was standing next to Hua Lin, couldn't hold back any longer and came over to Hua Kai: "Hua Kai, you've gotten bold, haven't you? How dare you talk to me like that? Have you forgotten how I used to beat you to a pulp?" As he spoke, he punched Hua Kai in the face.

Hua Kai was prepared. She threw down the branch in her hand, reached out and grabbed Hua Qingsheng's wrist, used a powerful grappling move to turn Hua Qingsheng over, and then kicked him in the buttocks, pinning him to the ground.

Hua Qingsheng fell flat on his face. He had never suffered such a loss before. He was so angry that he felt like he was going to explode. He struggled desperately and even had the urge to kill Hua Kai.

Unfortunately, with Hua Kai holding him down like that, he couldn't turn over at all, let alone fight back. He could only tilt his head and curse.

At this moment, Hua Lin picked up a large rock from the ground and smashed it at Hua Kai's head.

Hua Kai had already seen Hua Lin's actions. She slightly turned her body, and Hua Lin's stone hit Hua Qingsheng directly in the back.

Hua Qingsheng let out a painful scream, which startled Hua Lin. She was afraid of hurting Hua Qingsheng, because her grandmother doted on her eldest brother the most, and she would suffer the consequences if she did.

She quickly blamed Hua Kai: "Hua Kai, you, you hurt my brother! Let me tell you, if anything happens to my brother, Grandma will never forgive you."

Hua Kai looked at Hua Lin and laughed: "What can you do if you can't spare me? Kill me? Do you dare? Besides, with your skills, do you really think you can fight me?"

As she spoke, she released Hua Qingsheng, clapped her hands, and said to him with a smile, "That stone was thrown by your sister. Actually, she has disliked you for a long time. Your family favors boys over girls and gives you everything good. She only calls you 'brother' when she needs you, but behind your back she has cursed you to death."

This wasn't something Hua Kai made up. Hua Lin was indeed jealous of Hua Qingsheng and resented the unfairness at home, but she didn't dare to show it. Hua Kai used to be introverted and didn't talk much, so Hua Lin suffered a lot at home and confided in Hua Kai about it.

This was found in some of the original owner's diaries at home. No one would have guessed that although the original owner was a man of few words, he liked to record things.

These words stunned Hua Qingsheng. He never expected that his own sister would hate him so much.

He stood up, his anger now directed at Hua Lin. He asked her, "Hua Lin, do you have any conscience? I came here today to avenge Hua Kai, and this is how you treat me? Have you lost your conscience?"

Hua Lin panicked too. She never expected Hua Kai to bring this up. She quickly explained to Hua Qingsheng, "Big brother, don't listen to Hua Kai's nonsense. We are siblings. How could I harm you? I was just about to hit Hua Kai to save you, but I didn't expect Hua Kai to be so cunning and dodge it, and even smear me."

Hua Kai had no intention of making Hua Qingsheng believe Hua Lin's words. She said to Hua Lin, "Hua Lin, have you forgotten what you told me? In your family, the best things in terms of food, clothing, and daily necessities always belong to your eldest brother. If it weren't for your eldest brother, everything would be yours. You really wish your brother would die sooner. You said that, right? I swear you said it to me yourself. You dare to say it wasn't?"
