Chapter 1 Rebirth, I'm ecstatic!

At this moment, Jiang Xiaoli was lying on a small bed covered with a bamboo mat, sorting out her thoughts.

In her past life, Jiang Xiaoli was an older unmarried woman who adhered to the principle of earning her own money, spending it as she pleased, traveling and having fun, and living a carefree life without worrying about children.

She loves all outdoor activities: skiing, surfing, bungee jumping, skydiving—basically, she does whatever makes her feel free.

Finally, in the winter of her 35th year, she went off-piste skiing with some friends, got caught in an avalanche, and tragically died.

The moment her heart stopped beating, she really wanted to live...

When she regained consciousness, she looked around at her surroundings and couldn't help but complain, "Is this heaven or hell? The decor is from the last century, isn't it? The infrastructure is really terrible!"

Li Guizhi came into the house and called her to eat. Jiang Xiaoli's eyes widened, and she excitedly rushed over to her, "Mom! I missed you so much! Waaah..."

Li Guizhi gently patted Jiang Xiaoli's back with her palm-leaf fan. "What's wrong? Are you still half asleep? It's so hot today, quickly wash your face and eat. I've made some mung bean soup to cool you down."

The mother's body temperature and gentle pats felt so real!

Jiang Xiaoli was stunned. Only then did she realize that the house was so familiar. Wasn't it her childhood home?

This area is full of old-style bungalows. Her family has three rooms in total. The middle room is the living room and dining room, and the two rooms on the left and right are the bedrooms for the mother and daughter.

Outside the house is a small courtyard of about 30 square meters, with two small half-rooms built in two corners, one being the kitchen and the other the bathroom.

Jiang Xiaoli pulled a towel off the washbasin stand, soaked it in water, and wiped her face. The cool sensation brought her back to her senses.

August was still very hot. It felt like there were two suns in the sky. After finishing her lunch on a small stool, Jiang Xiaoli was covered in sweat again.

"Smack!" Li Guizhi swatted a mosquito. "Xiaoli, Mom's going to work. There's some food left for you in the pot. Remember to wash the dishes after you finish eating this afternoon. It's too hot, so don't go out and run around. Just stay home and read your books. School starts soon!"

After giving these instructions, Li Guizhi hurriedly went to work, while Jiang Xiaoli looked around the room.

Everywhere she looked, there were traces of her childhood. Jiang Xiaoli murmured, "Have I been reborn?"

Thinking of this, she quickly looked at the torn calendar by the door, where it was clearly written.

"August 17, 1993, Tuesday, the 30th day of the sixth lunar month, the year of Guiyou, the month of Gengshen, the day of Gengwu, auspicious for: marriage, travel, haircut..."

"In 1993, let me calculate... I was 16 years old?" Jiang Xiaoli asked, bewildered.

Jiang Xiaoli returned to her bedroom and found her high school admission notice from Xijing No. 20 Middle School among a pile of junior high school textbooks. Now she was absolutely certain that she really had... been reborn!

When Jiang Xiaoli realized this, she was overjoyed!

Her father, Jiang Weimin, was a martyr who heroically sacrificed his life when Jiang Xiaoli was eight years old.

In order to provide resettlement for the families of martyrs, the military arranged a job for Li Guizhi as a female worker in the chemical fiber workshop of the Xijing No. 3 State-owned Cotton Mill.

Unfortunately, her good fortune didn't last long. The No. 3 State-owned Cotton Mill went bankrupt in just a few years. After being laid off, Li Guizhi worked as a restaurant waitress, a clothing salesperson, a steamed bun seller, and a small shop to support her daughter's schooling.

The hardships of her youth eventually sowed the seeds of future problems. When Jiang Xiaoli graduated from junior college and started working, able to take care of her mother, Li Guizhi suddenly passed away due to a heart attack.

The untimely death of her mother is a pain that will never fade in Jiang Xiaoli's heart. She has blamed herself countless times, thinking that if she had been more sensible and started working and earning money earlier, her mother would not have had to work so hard and might not have left her so soon.

Thinking of this, Jiang Xiaoli grinned and smiled.

Yes! She was reborn! Everything will start anew!

This time, she's sure to make a lot of money so her mother can live a good life sooner.

Then I remembered the regretful look in my mother's eyes when she heard that I had only been admitted to a junior college. Yes! I still need to study hard and get into a prestigious university!

Jiang Xiaoli was happily planning for the future when there was a knock at the gate.

"Xiao Li, are you home?" Even after many years, Jiang Xiao Li still remembered this voice vividly. Wasn't this her childhood best friend, Tian Xiaomeng?

The two girls were neighbors since childhood. Tian Xiaomeng was the only one who stood up for her when the other kids in the alley mocked her for not having a father. She was also the third party who stole her fiancé.

Jiang Xiaoli opened the door and saw Tian Xiaomeng in her teenage years. A strange feeling arose in her heart. Ever since she was disgusted by the scumbag and the bitch, Jiang Xiaoli had never seen the two of them again.

When Tian Xiaomeng saw the door open, she came over and pulled Jiang Xiaoli, "Xiaoli, let's go find Xiao Muyu to play! Her house has air conditioning, it's so cool! We can even watch TV there!"

If it were the Jiang Xiaoli of the past, the temptation of watching TV while enjoying the air conditioning would indeed be great, but she is no longer that silly little follower who used to chase after Tian Xiaomeng!

"I'm not going. My mom said school starts soon and I should stay home and study!"

Jiang Xiaoli's refusal puzzled Tian Xiaomeng. She tried to persuade her several more times, but when Jiang Xiaoli refused to go with her no matter what, she snorted and ran away angrily.

"Trying to get some air conditioning and watch TV at Xiao Muyu's house because of me? Dream on!" Jiang Xiaoli spat at Tian Xiaomeng's back.

Xiao Muyu's father, Xiao Jincheng, is an old classmate of Jiang's father. Ever since he learned about Jiang's father's accident, he often brings Xiao Muyu to visit Jiang Xiaoli.

Xiao Jincheng quit his job at the steel factory in the early 1980s to start his own business, selling building materials, and has made a lot of money over the years.

Xiao Muyu is Xiao Jincheng's pampered little princess. Besides being good at studying, she is also good at singing, dancing and playing musical instruments.
