Xie Yitao looked at Jiang Xiaoli, who was completely bewildered, with sympathy. "Yesterday, Du Jingheng asked all the girls in the class but couldn't find a fourth person. He finally caught you today."
Jiang Xiaoli opened her mouth, then said, "Fine, let them run away."
It just so happened that this was a PE class, and during free time, Sun Jiajia came over and called out to her, "Jiang Xiaoli, you also signed up for the 4x100 relay, right? Let's run a couple of laps together to practice."
Jiang Xiaoli looked at Zhang Yuanyuan and Yan Lin behind her, who were holding the baton, and said, "Alright, let's practice then. But I'll let you know in advance that my speed is average, so I'm just being pushed into this."
Sun Jiajia quickly waved her hand, "It's okay, we're all the same, we just need to finish the competition."
Jiang Xiaoli was assigned to the second leg, Yan Lin was the first, Sun Jiajia was the third, and Zhang Yuanyuan was the fourth.
As soon as Du Jingheng blew his whistle, Yan Lin charged at her like a cannonball.
Jiang Xiaoli turned around and was stunned. "Didn't we agree that we were all forced into this? You're playing me?"
She received the baton and ran towards Sun Jiajia with all her might; the sudden burst of energy made her blood boil.
She calmed her breathing and saw that Sun Jiajia and Zhang Yuanyuan were also moving very fast.
She walked back to the starting point and saw them all surrounding Du Jingheng. She heard Du Jingheng announce the time, "52 seconds!"
While cheering them on, Yuan Man asked, "I feel like they're so fast! Is 52 seconds enough to win a prize?"
Du Jingheng said excitedly, "This is only their first practice session. If they run a couple more times and get the coordination right, they're sure to win an award!"
Jiang Xiaoli squeezed into the crowd and tugged at Sun Jiajia's sleeve. "Why don't you find someone else? I feel like I'm holding you back."
Sun Jiajia immediately grabbed her arm and restrained her, saying, "No, this is fine. You just need to maintain the advantage that Yan Lin has gained."
Unlike when she was picking on her at the beginning of the semester, Zhang Yuanyuan wasn't as unlikable. She awkwardly said, "Where else is there? Can't the three of us handle you?"
Yan Lin came over and took her other arm. "Jiang Xiaoli, we didn't know you well when school started, so please don't hold it against us. The three of us really can't find you."
Jiang Xiaoli glanced at Zhang Yuanyuan, who clearly cared about her answer but whose eyes were darting around when she looked at her, and found it a little funny. "What's going on with the start of school? I don't remember anything."
"Haha, it's okay, it's okay. For the honor of our class, how about we run another lap?" Yan Lin suggested with a smile when she saw that they didn't hold it against her.
"Sure, I have no objection."
Jiang Xiaoli took a sip of the water Xiao Muyu had just bought from the convenience store, then stood in her place.
After running three laps, the times were 51 seconds, 50 seconds, and 49 seconds, each time one second faster than the previous lap. Du Jingheng seemed ready to drag the four of them for two more laps.
The school bell rang, rescuing Jiang Xiaoli.
The race for speed is quite different from her daily morning run; she feels completely drained.
Du Jingheng held the baton in one hand and the stopwatch in the other. "The relay race is scheduled for Friday afternoon. You guys practice a bit more these two days and try to secure first place for us, okay?"
Sun Jiajia wiped the sweat from her neck. "Okay, we'll do our best. You boys, keep up the good work, don't let us outdo you!"
After saying that, she turned to the three of them and suggested, "Shall we practice some more after school these next couple of days?"
Yan Lin and Zhang Yuanyuan exchanged a glance, and Yan Lin spoke up, "Yuanyuan and I are fine, it's up to Jiang Xiaoli."
Today is Tuesday, and the competition is on Friday, so it's only two days at most. She quickly replied, "I'm fine!"
The four of them discussed it and went back to the classroom together.
She had just sat down when Chen Jing struck up a conversation with her, "I really didn't realize you guys could run so fast!"
Jiang Xiaoli gulped down her water. "Don't count me in. I'm just there to make up the numbers. It's the other three who were too fast."
Chen Jing's deskmate, Hou Rui, revealed to them, "You might not know this, but Zhang Yuanyuan and her two friends were exceptionally good at sports in junior high school. There was another girl who was with them before, but that girl went to a different high school."
Jiang Xiaoli suddenly realized, and she couldn't help but hug herself, "They're all big shots, and I'm just a newbie, I'm trembling with fear!"
Chen Jing was amused by her actions, "You're a big shot too, I'll cheer you on on Friday and write you a press release!"
Sports meet newsletter? I haven't heard that term in years! This is blatant flattery!
She suggested, "Then you'd better use your writing skills to praise me more!"
“No problem, I’ll start writing today!” Chen Jing agreed immediately.
Xie Yitao raised his hand, "Count me in, I'll write one too!"
Hou Rui joined in, saying, "I'll join too."
Jiang Xiaoli, pleased with the three new fans, nodded to them and said, "Okay, I'll summarize the key points for the midterm exam for you next week."
Chen Jing exclaimed "Wow!" and then quickly covered her mouth, asking in surprise, "Really? Won't it interfere with your studies?"
Jiang Xiaoli shook her head, "No, don't worry."
The three were delighted and immediately said they would make sure her name echoed over the school's loudspeakers during the relay race and long-distance running events.
Jiang Xiaoli was eating dinner when Zong Jia and He Dafu strolled in.
She moved her small stool to make room for the two of them, saying, "You two have timed this well; dinner has just started at home."
Dafu chuckled sheepishly, "Hehe, we were going to miss it anyway, but Brother Zong was farsighted and we took a taxi."
Seeing the two of them again, Li Guizhi got up and went to the kitchen to add more dishes, and Dafu followed her to learn the cooking skills.
Jiang Xiaoli didn't put down her chopsticks, but added another bite of shredded potatoes and ate it. "How's the employee handbook training for the workers going, Deputy Factory Director Ming?"
Zong Jia knew that this was what she cared about most. "After I accompanied my godmother to the bank to transfer the money, I went back to the factory and listened for a while. Although it was done step by step, the effect was quite good. The employees' reactions were all very positive. This is mainly because Uncle Wei managed things quite well before. They had been doing many of the rules the way they did before, but they hadn't explicitly written them down."
Jiang Xiaoli finally felt relieved. "That's good. Have all the goods arrived? Can we start trial production tomorrow?"
"It's here. The new equipment will also be delivered tomorrow, so we can start trial production with both the old and new equipment at the same time."
Her eyes lit up. "Wasn't the new equipment supposed to take a week? Why was it delivered early?"
Zong Jia smiled and said, "You're lucky. Other factories canceled their orders at the last minute, so the equipment factory delivered it directly to us, and it was even cheaper."
Jiang Xiaoli put down her chopsticks and picked up her water glass. "This is such a joyous occasion, we absolutely have to have a toast!"
She clinked glasses with someone, took a hearty sip of water, and said, "It's been all good news lately, so wonderful!"
"Oh? Is there any other good news?"
