Chapter 3 Trying to Make Spicy Strips

Jiang Xiaoli patted Li Guizhi on the shoulder, "So, nobody can predict the future, Mom. It's always good to do some side hustles to earn more money, right?"

Li Guizhi finally came to her senses. "Oh, girl, you've been arguing with me for so long, but you still want to do business, right? No way! I'll take care of making money. You just need to focus on your studies!"

Jiang Xiaoli felt she had reasoned with her mother enough, and seeing that her mother was starting to waver, she decided to add more leverage.

She suddenly lowered her head, her voice low and deep, "Mom, do you know why I stopped liking to play with Xiao Muyu when I got older?"

Li Guizhi had always been puzzled by this matter. The two girls were inseparable when they were little, and they even wore the same clothes, yet they insisted that they were twins.

But I don't know when it started, Xiaoli stopped liking to play with Xiaoyu. Even when Xiaoyu came to my house and asked Xiaoli to go out and play, Xiaoli always refused.

Over time, the two sisters' relationship faded considerably.

Li Guizhi and Xiao Jincheng had pressed her for an answer many times, but Jiang Xiaoli's mouth seemed to be taped shut, and she just wouldn't open her mouth.

Seeing that her daughter seemed to want to open up to her, she quickly asked, "Why? You two were such good friends when you were little."

Jiang Xiaoli cursed herself a few times, but still spoke up, "Because every time Uncle Xiao takes us out to play, he gives us good food and drinks, and often gives me gifts."

But I've seen the clothes and toys Uncle Xiao gave me; my mom couldn't buy them with a month's salary... I don't have anything to give Xiaoyu as a return gift..."

Jiang Xiaoli had lived to the age of 35 in her previous life, which was about the same age as Li Guizhi now, but she had much more experience than Li Guizhi. Her act of playing the victim instantly made Li Guizhi feel a pang of sadness.

Yes, as our daughter grows up, she develops a strong sense of self-esteem, just like her father. How could she possibly be willing to keep accepting what others give her?

Moreover, the Xiao family is well-off, and Xiaoyu has been learning piano and dance since she was a child, making her very talented. Xiaoli, being just a child herself, would probably feel inferior in front of Xiaoyu, who is like a little princess.

Thinking of this, tears streamed down Li Guizhi's face, and she hugged her daughter tightly.

"Xiaoli, I'm sorry, it's because Mommy isn't capable of providing you with the same life as Xiaoyu. Mommy will listen to you, let's think of a way to start a small business, and Mommy will save more money in the future. Xiaoli is also Mommy's little princess."

Jiang Xiaoli's shoulder was wet with Li Guizhi's tears, and she felt very guilty.

She knew her mother loved her very much and was willing to give everything for her. But at this moment, this was the best way to get Li Guizhi to agree to her doing business and making money.

She silently prayed to herself, "Mom, please forgive me this time. I promise I will never make you sad again."

Jiang Xiaoli patted Li Guizhi on the back, "Mom, don't say that. You will always be my best mom. We will have a good life in the future!"

Li Guizhi raised her head, wiped away her tears, and turned away shyly to wipe her face so her daughter could see her like this.

After Li Guizhi washed her face and calmed down, Jiang Xiaoli came over and asked, "Mom, I've actually thought of a way to make money. Shall we give it a try?"

Li Guizhi was curious about the method she was told. "What method?"

"Hehe, making spicy strips!" Jiang Xiaoli began to share her little business idea with her mother.

Li Guizhi was very interested after hearing this, but she hesitated for a moment. "Xiaoli, Mom thinks the spicy strips you mentioned are really good. They take less time to prepare and are easy to sell, but the premise is that they have to taste good. Do you know how to make them?"

Jiang Xiaoli's eyes darted around as she began to refine her explanation, "I've never made it before, but I've read a recipe for spicy strips in a book. It's very detailed. Shall we buy some ingredients and try making it ourselves?"

"You read it in a book? Okay, then let's buy a small amount and try making it first?" Li Guizhi still believed her daughter's words.

Li Guizhi is a woman of action; she gets things done as soon as she says she will. Recently, she has been working the afternoon shift, going to the factory in the afternoon. It's only 9 a.m. now, and she asked Jiang Xiaoli to give her a list of the ingredients she needs to make spicy strips before going to the market to buy them.

Jiang Xiaoli watched her mother's hurried departure and breathed a sigh of relief.

If she previously thought her spicy snack business had an 80% success rate, she now guarantees it's 98%.

It's not just about family ties; her mom's cooking skills are truly exceptional. Even the most ordinary dishes taste better when cooked by her than by others.

Jiang Xiaoli leisurely sat down at her desk and began studying according to the study plan she had made yesterday.

She started by looking at the math textbook for the first year of junior high school, and as she looked at it, her expression became a little strange.

"Has my memory become so good since I was reborn?"

In just a short time, Jiang Xiaoli discovered that she had memorized almost all the content from the textbooks she had read.

To verify this, she took out her Chinese textbook and specifically chose a text that did not require memorization.

After reading it twice, she closed the book and began to memorize it.

It's exactly the same word!

She happily stood up and twirled around the room. Just then, Li Guizhi walked in. "Xiao Li, what are you doing?"

Jiang Xiaoli touched the back of her head, smiled and said, "Haha, it's nothing, I just finished memorizing a text and I'm just stretching it out."

Seeing that she had taken the initiative to learn while she was out buying ingredients for more than twenty minutes, Li Guizhi nodded with satisfaction. "Come on, Mom went to several spice shops and bought all the things you need. Tell me how to cook them."

"Okay," Jiang Xiaoli first asked Li Guizhi to sprinkle some water on the pound of dried bean curd sheets she bought and steam them for twenty minutes. Then she told her the proportions for the sauce.

"The most important thing about spicy strips is the sauce. First, mince a head of garlic... then add chili powder, cumin powder, Sichuan peppercorn powder, five-spice powder, a little salt, and a little white sesame seeds."

Jiang Xiaoli reported the weight of each seasoning. Li Guizhi looked at the amount of fried tofu skin in the pot and added seasonings based on her usual cooking experience.

"The next step is to add scallions, ginger, and onions to the soybean oil. Put the oil in a cold pan and fry it over low heat until the scallions and ginger turn golden brown. Then, heat the oil and pour it over the prepared ingredients," Jiang Xiaoli continued to instruct.

With two sizzling sounds, hot oil was poured into the soup bowl in two batches, instantly releasing the aroma of the seasonings.

"Mom, continue!" Jiang Xiaoli stopped Li Guizhi, who wanted to dip her chopsticks in to taste the flavor. "Add soy sauce and sugar. Okay, now stir it well, and the sauce is ready."

Soon the fried tofu skin was steamed, and Li Guizhi quickly cut it into small pieces. Jiang Xiaoli personally poured the fried tofu skin into the soup bowl and stirred it well. She picked up a piece with her chopsticks and fed it to Li Guizhi, "Mom, try it and see how it is."

She picked up another slice for herself, saying, "Mmm~ This is the taste!"

Li Guizhi also showed an expression of amazement. She did not expect that such a simple snack would taste so good, and it was indeed as Xiao Li said, very suitable for selling at a street stall.
