During afternoon classes, Jiang Xiaoli couldn't resist secretly switching each subject's textbook to the first semester of the second year of high school.
She quickly mastered the skill of multitasking.
While looking at the new textbook, I interacted with the teacher giving the lecture.
Every now and then, I would look up and make eye contact with the teachers, giving them an affirming look.
Xie Yitao couldn't help but applaud her, "You're amazing!"
Jiang Xiaoli smiled and said, "It's nothing, it's nothing!"
But in the last physics class, she still gave herself away.
Teacher Liu was very satisfied with Jiang Xiaoli's performance today. She answered every question he posed very seriously, and she became more and more enthusiastic as he spoke.
After explaining a difficult point, he gave the students time to digest the information and discuss it with each other.
Li Cheng raised his hand and asked a question. Teacher Liu walked down from the podium to his side and explained, "The question you asked is about a topic that comes up a little later in this semester."
As he spoke, he picked up Jiang Xiaoli's book, intending to turn to that specific point of knowledge and point it out to Li Cheng.
He picked up the book and flipped through it from memory, but the more he looked, the more strange his expression became.
He closed the book, glanced at the cover, put it back on her desk, turned around, picked up his own textbook from the podium, and began to answer Li Cheng's questions.
Jiang Xiaoli was so embarrassed that she had to dig out a three-bedroom apartment from the ground with her feet!
Before get out of class ended, Teacher Liu finished the lesson and assigned homework. The bell rang, and after he finished speaking, he glanced at Jiang Xiaoli and said, "Come to my office with me."
Jiang Xiaoli scratched her head and sighed, "What was bound to happen has finally happened."
Xie Yitao packed his schoolbag and said sympathetically, "Please accept my condolences!"
She greeted Xiao Muyu and went to the office to report for duty.
It's Saturday afternoon, and many teachers who don't have classes aren't here. There are only a few teachers in the office who have just finished their classes.
Jiang Xiaoli called out "Report!" and her Chinese teacher opened the door for her.
"Hello, Teacher Zhou!" Jiang Xiaoli greeted with a smile.
Teacher Zhou lifted the lid of her water glass, blew on the tea leaves, took a sip, and said, "Teacher Chen isn't here."
She thought she was there to see Chen Zhe.
Before Jiang Xiaoli could say anything, Teacher Liu called out from inside the office, "Teacher Zhou, she's here to see me!"
Teacher Zhou held the cup lid and stopped talking to her.
Jiang Xiaoli took small steps to stand in front of Teacher Liu, forcing a smile, "Teacher Liu, I'm here."
Teacher Liu crossed her arms and nodded her head repeatedly, "Jiang Xiaoli, do you have a problem with me?"
She quickly raised her hands and waved them dramatically, "No, no, Teacher Liu, you've misunderstood!"
"Then why do I hear from other teachers how attentive and studious you are in class, but in my class, you're always daydreaming and reading other books?" Teacher Liu asked the crucial question.
Jiang Xiaoli organized her thoughts, trying to defend herself, "Teacher Liu, it was indeed wrong of me to daydream in class the first time, but I wasn't reading any other book today, right?"
Ms. Liu frowned and widened her eyes. "That's a high school textbook! Do you think I can't teach you?"
Jiang Xiaoli simply laid her cards on the table. She smiled and said, "Teacher Liu, how about we make a deal?"
Teacher Liu raised her chin, indicating that she should speak if she had something to say.
She crossed her arms over me, making a pleading gesture, "Teacher Liu, I've already finished self-studying the first-year high school curriculum, and I think I've grasped it fairly well. I'd like to self-study the second-year high school curriculum, and I'll come back to ask you for help when I encounter anything I don't understand, is that alright?"
After thinking for a while, Teacher Liu changed his posture, rested his arm on the desk, and tapped the desk a few times with his fingers. "Whether you've mastered it or not isn't up to you. I'm not an unreasonable person. I'll give you a set of questions. If you can get over 90 points, I'll agree with what you said. What do you think?"
Jiang Xiaoli immediately agreed, "Teacher Liu is brilliant! I think your idea is really great. When can I come to you for a question?"
"Next Monday at noon, I'll put out the questions tomorrow," Teacher Liu replied.
"Okay!"
After the two agreed on the plan, Ms. Liu suddenly thought of something and asked, "Do you do this in other classes too?"
Jiang Xiaoli smiled shyly, "I only borrowed the books for the second and third year of high school this afternoon, and I just started reading them, and you've already taken them."
Teacher Liu suggested, "If you want to study on your own, I suggest you take exams in other subjects beforehand, just like with physics. This way, the teachers will know what to expect. We'll be lecturing, and the students will be watching what the other subjects look like. If you pass the exam, whether you want to skip a grade or continue studying in the class, at least the teachers will have a better understanding of your situation!"
She nodded seriously, "Thank you, Teacher Liu. I'll ask the other teachers for the same thing on Monday."
"Alright, if there's nothing else, go home early."
Jiang Xiaoli returned to the classroom, where Xiao Muyu was waiting for her, and Xie Yitao hadn't left either.
Upon her return, the two asked in unison, "How was it?"
"It's nothing, it's nothing. It's just that Teacher Liu wants to give me a set of questions to test me. It's a small problem." Jiang Xiaoli briefly explained her conversation with Teacher Liu in the office.
Xiao Muyu breathed a sigh of relief. "I've heard a lot of people say these past two days that Teacher Liu is very strict. I heard from Xie Yitao that you were caught reading other books, and I thought Teacher Liu would punish you!"
Xie Yitao also said, "Yes, my second brother's physics teacher is Mr. Liu. He told me that Mr. Liu's own questions are insanely difficult. You have to prepare in advance since you're off tomorrow!"
Jiang Xiaoli was happy that two people cared about her so much. "It's okay, at most I'll just pay more attention in class from now on, it's not a big problem. Okay, don't worry about me, go home! It's the weekend!"
The three of them carried their schoolbags, and Xie Yitao helped carry the large bag of textbooks to the bicycle shed before leaving.
