Chapter 424 Group Honorary Advisor

Jiang Xiaoli breathed a sigh of relief. "Professor Tan, don't worry about that! My company isn't a shelter for older children. I'll definitely arrange for them to do some practical work. I was even hoping they could sign formal employment contracts with my company after graduation, don't you think?"

Tan Xuanyi smiled and nodded, "I knew you knew what you were doing! Now I'm relieved, and I can explain things to the school."

As Jiang Xiaoli walked and chatted with him, she said, "Professor Tan, what did you like about the new product gift box I sent you last time? It will save me some trouble next time I visit."

Tan Xuanyi shook his head with a smile, "You little girl are so lazy. You really can't slack off this time. Everyone in our family has different tastes, and we all like your new product!"

She feigned helplessness, "My arms and legs are so tired from carrying all this stuff, Professor Tan, you'd better come up with a couple more marketing ideas for me so I can cheer myself up!"

"Haha!" Tan Xuanyi laughed heartily. "I knew that although you are small, you are no easier to deal with than those seasoned businessmen! I've already thought it through. Come over to my house when you have time and I'll discuss it with you."

Jiang Xiaoli immediately perked up, "No way! There's no time like the present, I'm free today!"

"You're so realistic!"

"Plenty of snacks will be provided later!"

The two, one old and one young, joked with each other as they arrived at the faculty and staff residential compound of Peking University.

Tan Xuanyi found a marketing plan he had prepared in his study. "This is an idea I had during a meeting with the leaders of the Ministry of Commerce a while ago. See if you can use it."

Jiang Xiaoli carefully read through the marketing plan. "Your plan integrates the resources of several companies under my group."

Tan Xuanyi nodded, "Since it's a group now, of course we need to create a group effect. What's the point of each going their own way? We should make use of the resources we can. I don't need to teach you that, do I?"

She nodded and smiled, saying, "Old ginger is spicier!"

Tan Xuanyi was very proud, "We old guys still have some skills!"

"Yes, yes, yes!" she immediately followed with a rainbow of compliments, "That's what you call still being sharp as ever!"

"Haha." Tan Xuanyi put down his teacup. "I love chatting with you, little girl. You know how to flatter people!"

Jiang Xiaoli was very modest at this moment, "What I said is the truth from the bottom of my heart. I originally wanted to think about how to tell you in a couple more days, but today we've gotten to the point, so I'll just get straight to the point. I'd like to hire you as an honorary advisor to my group. Would you consider it?"

Tan Xuanyi refused without even thinking, "That won't be necessary!"

Jiang Xiaoli became serious. "Professor Tan, I think a senior professor like you deserves better treatment. You can just treat it as a part-time job. I know you also secretly submit modern poems to magazines!"

"How did you know?!" Tan Xuanyi's eyes widened.

"Haha," she replied with a laugh, "I saw it! The last time I revised the company's internal management system, the signature you accidentally wrote after reading it was exactly the same as the signature on this copy of 'Modern Chinese Poetry' that's placed in the most conspicuous spot on your desk! That can't be a coincidence, can it?"

Tan Xuanyi immediately put the magazine away. "Can't I even have some hobbies?"

“Of course!” Jiang Xiaoli continued to persuade, “But you’ve spent your whole life studying Chinese business, don’t you want to put it into practice? Asking you to be a consultant won’t affect your work at the school, and it’ll give you an extra source of income, which is great.”

Tan Xuanyi glanced at her. "Have you heard something?"

"Hehe, it's just a little bit. I'm just offering you a perfect solution!"

When she visited Professor Tan at the beginning of the semester, his two sons and their wives came to visit, and a dispute ensued.

She inquired and found out that Professor Tan's two sons were allocated small apartments of about 40 square meters by their work units. Now that the children were grown up, the apartments were too cramped. Professor Tan and his wife usually lived in the Peking University staff quarters. They were considering selling their old house and adding some money to buy a new one.

However, Professor Tan has a deep affection for the old house and moves back to live there every year when the students have their winter and summer vacations. He is unwilling to dispose of the old house. Professor Tan's wife is biased towards their two sons, and they recently had a disagreement about this matter.

Tan Xuanyi stared wide-eyed and said, "Seeing so many outstanding children like you at school every day makes me both happy and angry. Why are my two kids so disappointing? It really proves the saying that children are a burden!"

Jiang Xiaoli advised, "You've seen the upward trend in housing prices over the past few years, so it's normal for them to want to buy houses."

Tan Xuanyi sighed, "Yes! That makes sense, but I really can't bear to sell the old house!"

Jiang Xiaoli said with a smile, "Don't worry, anything that can be solved with money isn't a problem. Just consider the consultant position; the consultant fee I offer is quite high!"

Tan Xuanyi slammed his hand on the table. "I'm not someone you can buy with money!"

Most students would be terrified to see him like this, but Jiang Xiaoli noticed the barely suppressed smile on his lips.

She clutched her heart and said, "If that slam of your hand on the table scares me, no one will be willing to pay you a high consulting fee!"

Realizing he'd been seen through, Tan Xuanyi stopped pretending, but the old man remained defiant, asking, "What, are you the only one willing to take me?"

Seeing that he had finally relented, Jiang Xiaoli immediately fawned over him, refilling his teacup with water. "How could that be! Plenty of companies want to invite you, but you wouldn't even consider them, right?"

Tan Xuanyi chuckled, "Good to know! But I need to report this to the school first, and I can only agree to it if the school gives their approval."

"No problem, no problem!" In her previous life, there were many professors and teachers who taught at the school but also served as consultants outside. She believed that the school had no reason to refuse.

She asked directly, "Which house have your two family members taken a liking to, and how much are they short of money for?"

Tan Xuanyi waved his hand, "Don't worry about this. Even if I take your consulting fee, I won't buy them houses. I raised them, sent them to school, and helped them get married. Now I'm almost at the age where they should be retired, and they want me to sell my old house to buy them houses. There's no logic to that!"

"Whether we can still live in this family compound after I retire is another matter. If the school clears out the houses then, where will my wife and I live? Those two wretched children who only listen to their wives will probably find some excuse to avoid it! While I can still earn money, I'd better save up some money for our funerals. When we're old and have some money, they'll definitely be filial!"

Jiang Xiaoli gave him a thumbs up, "You are truly one of the wisest old people I have ever met!"

Tan Xuanyi snorted and said arrogantly, "You're only just realizing that?"
