Chapter 53: Doing things foolishly still gets you beaten
Deng Xiuzhen helped Qin Yanlin lie down on the bed, covered him with a quilt, stuffed a hot water bottle into his mouth, and asked him to hold it to his chest.
"Dad, this is the rock sugar pear water I made for you. It's already warm, drink it quickly." Wen Xin said and started crying.
Wen Yu started crying too.
Wenjing didn't cry, but her eyes were red.
Deng Xiuzhen lowered her voice and said, "Don't cry. If you want your dad to be okay, you must pretend that nothing happened!"
The two children stopped crying immediately and even forced out a smile that was uglier than crying.
With the careful care of his family, Qin Yanlin finally recovered. Although he was still thin, like skin and bones, his spirit was much better. His throat didn't hurt anymore, his voice was no longer hoarse, and he could get up and move around.
But he never went out, and didn't let Deng Xiuzhen and others tell others that he had returned.
The children get out of school and come home from school as usual every day, and Deng Xiuzhen goes out to look for work every day and buy some vegetables.
In the alley where not many people usually walk around, no one knew that Qin Yanlin was back.
More than a week passed like this, and Qin Yanlin's health finally recovered a lot. He then told Deng Xiuzhen about his experience.
That day, I heard Deng Xiuzhen say that because of a dream, she used the money to buy those worthless lands.
He was a little angry and upset, so he ran away in a rage. He had no relatives or friends in the city, so he had nowhere to go.
Just wanting to be alone and quiet, I walked towards a secluded river.
As soon as I walked to the bottom of the tower, I felt a headache and then I knew nothing.
When I woke up, I found myself in a car. Not only did I have a headache, but there was also a foul smell around me.
He came to his senses and observed that there were people all around him who were either crazy or stupid.
How did he get here? Why was he with these people? He had no idea.
But he certainly couldn't just stay there, so he pushed the carriage hard and found that it was made of iron sheets, very strong and could not be broken at all. The only exit was the carriage door. If he wanted to get out, he had to open the carriage door.
He took advantage of the chaos and pretended to be pushed against the door and tried to open it, but it couldn't be opened at all. It must have been locked from the outside.
The car had been driving for several hours since he woke up. The middle door was opened once, and two people opened the door with iron bars, threw some food in, and tried to close it.
Most people were scrambling for food, but one person tried to get out through the door, shouting, "Who are you? Why are you arresting me? Let me out now!"
The two men didn't say anything in reply, but just hit the man on the head several times with sticks, very hard, without caring at all whether they would kill him or not.
The man fell down immediately, blood flowing down the carriage. He was so frightened that he dared not move.
He didn't dare to get close to the door until the door was closed. Then he heard someone say, "Why did a normal person come in?"
Another said, "I'll let you know later whether to kill him or not."
Hearing this, he knew he was in trouble, so he quickly tore his clothes and acted like a madman like those crazy people.
Later we arrived at our destination, which was a brick factory. The factory had a high wall with barbed wire on it.
The car drove directly into the factory and they were driven out like animals. Each of them was given a cold steamed bun and told to eat it quickly.
Then they were forced to work, some fired bricks in the kiln, some transported bricks, some stacked bricks. Everyone had to work honestly, and if they didn't obey, they would be beaten.
He secretly observed that the man who was yelling at those people in the car to release the people and was then beaten with a stick was seriously injured and forced to do things for a few days. Then he collapsed and was dragged by those people and thrown into a brick kiln to be burned.
Those people are totally not human, and they don't treat them as human. They have fun, make fun of them, and beat them.
When I'm unhappy, I take it out on them and even beat them.
They get up before dawn to work and go back to bed very late at night. They work very hard every day but can only eat cold steamed buns and well water.
If the prisoners were alive, they would work honestly. If they died, they would be thrown into the brick kiln and burned.
He pretended to be crazy and did stupid things every day, but still got beaten.
After almost two months, he finally found an opportunity.
That day, a truck brought another group of people and stopped next to the pile of bricks.
He hid behind the bricks and while the guards were driving the people to the brick kiln, he crawled under the car. When the people drove away, he clung to the bottom of the car and escaped.
Because he was exhausted and afraid of being discovered, he got out of the car and hid in the woods when the car had driven a few kilometers and passed a forest.
After that, he walked all the way back, hiding during the day and going out at night, eating grass roots, tree buds, and leftovers to fill his stomach.
"Why didn't you call the police?" Deng Xiuzhen's heart ached listening to his story.
"You don't know how bad the situation was. When I escaped, I saw a car. It looked familiar and seemed to belong to some unit.
One year during the Spring Festival, I went into the city to purchase goods and saw such a car catching homeless people and crazy people on the street.
At that time, a friend told me that they were caught several times every year and sent to other counties.
At that time, we all thought it was to deal with inspections, and sending away the crazy and homeless was for the sake of the city's appearance.
Now it seems that this matter is far from that simple. How dare I gamble?
I was able to escape because they thought I was crazy and stupid and had no defenses. If they caught me again, how could I escape?"
Deng Xiuzhen touched Tan Yanlin's back distressedly and asked, "Does it still hurt?"
Tan Yanlin shook his head and said, "It doesn't hurt anymore, but how to deal with this matter is really a big problem. I don't know who to trust."
The two discussed for a while and finally decided to let Deng Xiuzhen go to find Tian Guoqiang quietly. In her previous life, Deng Xiuzhen didn't know Tian Guoqiang, but she had heard of him. He was a good policeman with a sense of justice.
Deng Xiuzhen did not go to the police station, but pretended to go see Xiaobao, and then took Xiaobao to play in the alley.
Seeing Tian Guoqiang coming back, Deng Xiuzhen greeted him and then naturally followed Tian Guoqiang in.
Deng Xiuzhen recounted Tan Yanlin's experience in detail. Even though Tian Guoqiang had seen too many cruel bad guys, he was still terrified when he heard it.
He stood up and cursed indignantly: "These beasts are worse than pigs and dogs! They deserve to be cut into pieces!"
He suppressed the rage burning in his chest and said, "This matter must be kept secret and we must not alert the enemy.
Sister Deng, you go back first and pretend nothing happened. Ask Brother Qin to draw a route map and describe the situation inside the brick factory.
I will report to my superiors immediately and rescue the others. I will not let these people continue to do evil!"
Tian Guoqiang said this and left in a hurry.
Not long after, Tian Guoqiang came over with a bag of fruit, pretending to be going to Old Man Zhao's house.
Deng Xiuzhen greeted him and quietly handed him the crude circuit diagram drawn by Tan Yanlin.
