Chapter 2207 Past Years

Time quickly passed and it was autumn. The weather in autumn is always so refreshing and comfortable.

After the old hunter got rejuvenation from the golden ball, he did not eat it immediately. The origin of this plant was very strange, and he did not dare to eat it for the time being. He tried to bury it in front of the door of the cabin.

Then we set about making adequate preparations for winter.

In the first autumn after arriving in the cedar forest, the old hunter did not have the ability to catch animals. All the animals in the forest were so smart and agile, even the hares ran faster than the old hunter. So he just kept quiet and did not hunt these animals. He simply became a vegetarian.

Even so, the old hunter's harvest was rich.

He collected a lot of mushrooms from the woods.

While picking mushrooms, the old hunter discovered that among the low bushes, there were a large number of raspberries under the dense branches and leaves. The raspberry leaves were large, with six gray petals in the middle. The petals looked thinner than paper, and each petal was round underneath. The golden fruit was very juicy.

The old hunter picked raspberries and other wild fruits, but he found that he could not eat them all, so he found a way to make some clay pots. Then he burned these clay pots into pottery, and used the clay pots to pickle the wild fruits into candied fruits.

He dried the wild pears into pear blossoms.

Like a squirrel, the old hunter stockpiled large quantities of wild chestnuts, walnuts, and pine nuts, which were high-calorie foods that could help him comfortably survive the long winter.

In addition to these things, the old man also collected a large amount of hay. He picked the hay, dried it in the sun, and spread it on the bed in his wooden house.

Cotton and cotton cloth are currently unavailable, so hay can only be used as a substitute.

Although the old hunter was as diligent as a mole, his speed in collecting food was still not fast enough. The old hunter knew that this was because he had no tools and could not hunt.

Just in the beginning of autumn the old hunter got his first hunting dog, which became a great helper to him.

The old hunter met the dog next to the wooden cabin. It was a large adult black dog. It was obviously injured and was lying on the path next to the cabin. From the way it looked at people, the old hunter understood that this dog had been domesticated by humans.

The old hunter tried to give the dog his own food.

The dog sniffed it and immediately started eating it in big mouthfuls.

After the big black dog finished eating, the old hunter approached him and carefully examined his body. He found that the dog was injured.

The old hunter tried to clean the big black dog's wound and bandage it. During the whole process, the big black dog did not resist and appeared very well-behaved.

Animals have a strong ability to heal, and with the care of the elderly, the dog recovered quickly. After it was fully recovered, it never left the cabin again.

With the help of the big black dog, the old hunter's prey increased rapidly.

When he and the big black dog caught their first hare, they were so happy that they each took a bite.

The old hunter carefully peeled off the hare skin and cleaned it, then gave half of the rabbit meat and internal organs to the big black dog. He kept only half of the meat for himself, put it in a clay pot and boiled it carefully, and had a delicious broth.

Inspired by the big black dog, the old hunter began to make bows and arrows and dig traps.

Before the cold winter came, the old hunter had a good harvest. He got an adult stag and many hares.

He peeled off the fur of these animals, tanned it carefully, and made himself a very good quilt.

Winter is coming soon.

The old hunter knew that fuel was indispensable if he wanted to survive the winter, so as early as autumn he collected a large number of dead trees and chopped them into firewood.

There is now a large amount of firewood and hay piled up in the shed next to the cabin.

The weather was getting colder day by day, and the old hunter was still wearing the clothes he wore when he escaped. It was actually a set of autumn clothes.

In order to resist the severe cold in winter, the old hunter caught two foxes and made a vest for himself with fox skins.

This vest is simple and rough, like a flour bag, but it does not affect its effectiveness in keeping out the cold.

The old hunter still remembers what it was like when the first snow fell.

It was a very cold day, with the wind stronger than ever. A dark, woolly cloud was rapidly approaching from the northwest, and the light was growing dimmer and dimmer.

Seeing such light, the old hunter felt a little uneasy. For the first time, he lit the fireplace when he was not cooking and moved a lot of wood to pile next to the fireplace.

The fire in the fireplace quickly lit up, bringing light and heat and illuminating the room.

The old hunter sat down next to the simple wooden chair where he typed, looking nervously outside.

This wooden house was built entirely by hand. Since there was no glass, the old hunter left a very small space as a window.

Outside the window, there is actually a movable wooden board that can be lowered to cover the entire window, just like a door.

Now the old hunter looked out of the window.

A strong wind was blowing outside, and a strange sound could be heard in the wind, as if someone was shouting in the distance.

The old hunter quickly ran outside and carefully lowered the wooden board covering the window and secured it.

He had just run into the house when a blizzard began to fall.

But in a short while, the wind and snow occupied the earth, and only a vast expanse of white could be seen outside. The old hunter opened the door and stood at the door to look out. As a result, he found that the snow was getting thicker and thicker, and had covered the pile of firewood, and he could not see where the firewood was piled at all.

The old hunter quickly closed the door. He put animal fat in a ceramic bowl and made a simple oil lamp. Now he took fire from the stove and lit the oil lamp, and the hut became warm and bright.

Outside the house, snowflakes slowly fell on the windows and walls, making a rustling sound.

The big black dog lay lazily in front of the fireplace. It seemed to realize that its wandering life was completely over. From now on, there would always be a wooden house to shelter it and provide it with warmth. It would no longer have to wander in the wind and snow.

"From that time on, I truly became a resident of the cedar forest," the old hunter said with a longing look. "Everything is difficult at the beginning. During my first winter here, I didn't have a real quilt, but thanks to the generous gift of the cedar forest, I was able to sleep in the cedar forest."

"I didn't freeze to death or starve to death. In the fall, I got a deer and made the venison into air-dried meat. This way, when the blizzard came, I could drink broth every day."

"But if you drink too much meat candy, you'll inevitably get sick of it. I'm thinking how nice it would be if I could have some vegetarian food. I have a lot of wild fruits, which I've made into dried fruits and candied fruits."

"But vegetables were very scarce. One sunny afternoon, I suddenly remembered the seeds I got from the golden balls. I couldn't help but dig them up in front of the cabin. I wanted to know what happened to them!"
