The next morning, when Su Nian woke up, she felt her feet were cold. She hadn't kept them warm all night. She stretched and looked at the sky outside. It was clear and cloudless. She should hang out the bedding to dry today!
When she was going out with the quilt in her arms, she happened to meet Chu Beichen. He was dressed neatly and was chatting happily with Fan Pengjun under the big pear tree in the yard. Both of them looked refreshed and didn't look like they had a hangover at all.
Breakfast was millet porridge, kimchi and farm pancakes. Su Nian was used to eating these and didn't think much of it, but she was worried that Chu Beichen wouldn't be able to get used to it.
"What's added to this pancake?" Chu Beichen asked Fan Pengjun with a smile.
Fan Pengjun was obviously a rough man. He picked up the golden pancake and asked, "Did you add anything to it? Why didn't I notice it?"
"This is a pancake made of a mixture of white flour and corn flour," Su Nian had to come forward to explain.
"No wonder it tastes sweet," Chu Beichen picked up a piece of kimchi radish, "it's actually quite delicious!"
Su Nian smiled. The real people in Laowan Village hated this kind of pancake because eating too much cornmeal would make people feel sour. Only city people like Chu Beichen would like cornmeal for the sake of novelty.
There were no clear working hours at this place. As the sun rose above the treetops, Hu Hongde and the young man in charge of household registration hadn't arrived yet. Fan Pengjun pointed to the back of the compound and said, "How about you two go up the mountain for a walk first?"
Chu Beichen looked at Su Nian, meaning that he would listen to her in everything.
Waiting around was just getting anxious, so Su Nian nodded, "Then let's go shopping for a while?"
Fan Pengjun nodded and said, "Let's go. There are many flowers blooming on the mountain. It's still fun!"
Su Nian and Chu Beichen went out from the back door of the compound and walked along the narrow path towards the mountain. The mountain was cool and full of bright wildflowers.
"This one is so beautiful!" Chu Beichen said to Su Nian, pointing to a large patch of wisteria flowers.
The wisteria flowers that occupied half of the hillside reflected the sunlight and bloomed gorgeously. "It looks even better after crossing this ridge!" Su Nian smiled and pointed to the back mountain, which was rarely visited and still maintained its original ecological appearance.
"There's no one here right now!" Chu Beichen looked around and felt it was a pity that no one appreciated such a beautiful scenery!
"Everyone is in the fields. Even those who have livestock at home are using feed now, and no one is cutting grass!" Su Nian explained to him, "Let's go down the mountain. If you like, you can come back in the afternoon!"
It was easier to go up the mountain than down. The two of them walked for a while before returning to the compound. As soon as they walked through the back door, they heard a woman's noisy voice, "Hurry up and send someone to bring my old man and son back!"
Su Nian and Chu Beichen were familiar with this voice. It was Su's mother. They immediately stopped and hid behind the house.
"Su family, your old man and son broke the law and are now undergoing reform! What nonsense are you talking about? How can we take them back?" Hu Hongde's voice rang out. "I think you've had enough of the good life and still want to go to jail, right?"
Su's mother was so frightened that she took a step back. The days in there were indescribable, and she didn't want to go in!
"Haha, you are joking. Forget it, forget it if it doesn't work. I just remembered that there is no rice at home. I have to borrow some!" Su's mother said this and ran away quickly, fearing that Hu Hongde would send someone to send her back to Yeteng Mountain!
Su Nian saw her mother leave, and then she walked out with Chu Beichen.
"Great, you're finally back. Come, let me take you to see the files!" Hu Hongde already regarded Chu Beichen as his own and greeted him warmly as soon as they met.
