The Han family has a yard with a lot of empty space. After discussing it, several young people decided to put up a wire fence in the southeast corner of the yard as a place to raise rabbits.
Han Qing had someone pry open the blue bricks paving the floor. Tang Xin was puzzled, "Why can't we put the rabbit on top of the bricks?"
"Silly boy," Han Qing took the initiative and scratched Tang Xin's nose. "How can rabbits dig holes like that?"
"Huh?" Tang Xin raised deer at home, but she had no idea how this rabbit lived. "I thought rabbits lived in cages!"
After removing about a dozen blue bricks, the soil was exposed on the ground. It was winter now and the soil was still frozen. Han Qing and Chu Beichen leveled the ground themselves before starting to build a wire mesh.
Rabbits can't jump very high, and the height of the wire mesh is just above everyone's knees.
"That's it. The soil is too hard for them to dig, so we need to make a nest for them!" Han Qing had two wooden boxes brought in. He placed the entrance in a windproof area and lined the inside with thick cotton wool. "That's it. If they just pull out a little more of their own fur, they'll give birth to little rabbits!"
Among Han Qing's guards, someone had raised rabbits before, and he volunteered to take on the task of feeding the rabbits. He fed the rabbits with bran mixed with hot water and dried vegetable leaves. The two big female rabbits ate happily, and after eating, they each went into a wooden box and lay there motionless.
Su Nian smiled and said, "I think they are very smart. Just now they knew to pick up the corn and beans from the food bowl to eat. Why not just order them as rice and soybeans!"
"What a great name," Han Qing gave a thumbs up. "It sounds like a name that a foodie would give!"
Su Nian immediately stood up and chased Han Qing. The yard was full of laughter and was very lively.
It took about two hours to clean up the iron cages. Now the east wing and the warehouse were ventilated. Su Nian followed everyone to walk through the entire courtyard. This time, he didn't find anything suspicious.
Grandpa Han couldn't stay in the yard for long, so he could only watch the children busying around through the window glass. When they returned, feeling cold, he smiled and asked the kitchen to bring over the baked snacks. "Come on, you've been busy all day, you must be hungry, right? Come and have some tea and snacks!"
Tang Xin and Su Nian agreed crisply, sat at the table to eat egg tarts, and went to talk with Grandpa Han.
Han Qing led Chu Beichen to the next room, opened the window, and handed him a cigar. "Want one?"
Chu Beichen took it with a smile, and the two of them lit up the cigarette together. Han Qing blew out a smoke ring, "You are a very good man. I feel relieved to leave Su Nian to you!"
This was a strange thing to say, and Chu Beichen couldn't help but feel a pang in his heart, "Why are you saying such things when you're fine?"
"Hey! Didn't you hear the old man keep saying he wanted to go find my parents?" Han Qing looked out the window. "Their disappearance back then was very strange. We all thought they were not dead!"
Chu Beichen didn't know the details of the disappearance of Han Bowen and his wife, but Han Qing's grandfather repeatedly said that they should not be dead, so he was willing to believe Han Qing's judgment.
Chu Beichen hesitated for a moment, "I wonder when you have decided to depart?"
"Let's wait until you finish your wedding," Han Qing said with a smile, "This is Xiaoxiao's big wedding, we can't delay it anyway!"
Chu Beichen nodded: "Su Nian and I will go with you then!"
