It was freezing cold in Northeast China, and the snow on the road was up to Su Nian's calves. They lived in Team A as soon as they arrived, where there were special people to clean and tidy up the area, so they didn't realize how heavy the snow was.
Among the people walking together, Su Nian was the shortest, and her feet would get stuck in the snow from time to time. Chu Beichen followed her and helped her pull her feet out if she sank too deep.
This was a novel experience for Su Nian, and it brought a smile to her face.
Seeing Su Nian's interest, White Beard explained dutifully, "It's snowing heavily right now. In some places, if it snows all night, you won't be able to open the door the next day!"
Su Nian blinked, "Then how do we get out?"
"Then you have to jump out of the window, shovel away the snow blocking the door, and then you can open the door!" White Beard has lived here for many years and is very experienced in this kind of thing.
The translator was inspired by Su Nian and treated her as one of his own. He pointed to a tavern not far away and said, "That restaurant is good. How about we eat there and then look for a hotel?"
A few people got off the train on a whim. They were now in a small town that couldn't be any smaller. However, it was not far from where Whitebeard usually lived, so they, the master and the apprentice, were very familiar with the situation here.
It was already completely dark. Su Nian looked at Chu Beichen, who smiled and said, "Sure, as long as she has some hot soup, it's fine. Su Nian has been walking in the snow for a long time, I'm afraid she's frozen!"
White Beard was amused: "I didn't realize you were such a caring person! Don't worry, there's plenty of hot soup, I'm just worried you won't be able to drink it!"
Several people entered the small restaurant together. It was not big and was a real fly restaurant. They found a seat next to the stove and sat down. White Beard called the waiter over to take the order.
"Pork and sauerkraut stewed with vermicelli. Is your pork fresh? I'm a guest today, so don't say bad things to me!" White Beard said rudely.
Apparently, Whitebeard was a regular here. The waiter wasn't angry at all, but smiled and said, "We just slaughtered the pig this morning. If you don't believe me, go and see. It's not frozen solid yet!"
Since the temperature outdoors is as low as minus 20 to 30 degrees Celsius, the freshly slaughtered livestock and fish are placed outside. This natural refrigerator saves electricity and is very effective!
Whitebeard nodded. "That's good. Is the blood sausage ready? If so, add it and stew together! Then, make tofu and small fish with yellow rice cakes! Do you have chicken and mushroom stew ready? If so, please bring it up! Let's have a few sips first!"
The waiter agreed, "What do you want to drink? We have sorghum liquor ready. How much do you want?"
White Beard looked at Su Nian and Chu Beichen, estimating their alcohol tolerance, "First, drink three pounds. If it's not enough, add more!"
The waiter agreed and went. There were not many people in the tavern at the moment. Apart from Whitebeard's table, there was only one table of guests left. The table was littered with cups and plates, and it seemed that they had almost finished eating and drinking.
The dishes were served quickly. The stewed chicken with mushrooms was served according to the size of a whole chicken, and there were also jelly skin, blood sausage, peanuts, vinegar-fried bean sprouts, boneless meat, stewed dried beans and eggplant. The table was soon filled up.
"The special dish has just been cooked, let's eat this first," White Beard picked up the wine pot and poured sorghum liquor into everyone's bowls.
Su Nian and Chu Beichen were not polite either. After this period of training, both of them had made great progress in both spirit and experience, and knew that now was a good opportunity to make friends.
The sorghum stew was very spicy. Su Nian took a sip and was stimulated by the spicy taste, so she quickly picked up some vegetables to suppress it.
