"How is it?" Chu Beichen saw Su Nian looking around like a curious kitten, and couldn't help but ask her softly how she felt.
"This train feels so magical!" Just one train gives people a feeling of a steel torrent. I wonder what Chu Beichen's troops look like!
"Haha, you two spend all day together, and don't you think you have enough to talk to?" the tall and thin man interrupted.
"I haven't introduced them yet. This is Wu Wei. I'm from Team Three, and he's from Team Four!" Chu Beichen turned to Wu Wei again, "My girlfriend, Su Nian, is still studying!"
"A college student?" Wu Wei stood in awe, rubbed his hands on his trouser pockets, and then reached out to Su Nian.
Wu Wei's actions made Su Nian almost laugh out loud. She shook hands with Wu Wei and said, "Hello!"
Everyone was chatting and laughing along the way. When Wu Wei learned that Chu Beichen had returned to handle the transfer procedures, he immediately sighed, "Beichen, why did you leave so suddenly?"
"Su Nian is studying alone in Quzhou, and I'm really worried about her!" The expression on Chu Beichen's face also became heavy. Although he liked Su Nian, he couldn't just throw away these heavy comradeships!
"That's true!" Wu Wei reached out and patted Chu Beichen, comforting him, "The army may change, but the camp remains. We all have to leave this land one day!"
In the evening, the train arrived at the station. When Su Nian got off the platform, he was surprised to see that the deserted platform was full of cars that came to pick up passengers. There were green military vehicles, several models of Beijing Jeeps, and a large military truck!
The distance was foggy, the distant horizon was connected to the sky, and there was no trace of the road at all.
Wu Wei and Chu Beichen were in Team Three and Team Four respectively. Su Nian originally thought that they were together, but unexpectedly, the two brothers shook hands, got into a jeep each, and then parted ways.
"Aren't Team Three and Team Four the same unit?" Su Nian followed Chu Beichen and sat in the back seat of the jeep, somewhat confused.
"We work in the same unit," Chu Beichen took out a pack of cigarettes and threw it to the driver. He also took out one and tapped it slowly on his palm, "but we're not together."
"Then," Su Nian couldn't understand, that wouldn't be going against the grain, right?
"Our two teams are about thirty kilometers apart!" Chu Beichen didn't care. He took out a cigarette and lit it. His handsome face began to become cold since entering this desert.
Su Nian recalled that Chu Beichen had lived on this land for ten years in his previous life, and she couldn't help but feel sorry for him.
It was already past four in the afternoon when we arrived at the Third Brigade. In the desert, there was only a lonely small courtyard standing there. There was a big iron gate at the entrance of the courtyard and two guardhouses. The sentries inside were holding guns with serious faces. There was a flagpole in the courtyard with the national flag flying on it.
The driver honked his horn and yelled at the sentry, "The captain's back! Are you still pretending not to recognize him?"
The two sentries hurried out of the guardhouse and greeted Chu Beichen through the car window. Then the car drove into the courtyard.
Su Nian got out of the car and stood in the yard, looking at the towering poplar trees curiously. This kind of tree is rarely seen in the city and is mostly grown in the northwest. Now that the New Year has just passed, the leaves have not yet grown out, and the bare treetops are swaying in the cold wind.
"Captain Chu, you're really a troublemaker!" A middle-aged man walked out of the small building next to him, looking unhappy. "You've only been here for a few days, and you're already asking to be transferred?"
