Just two months ago, they felt that the child was difficult to raise, so they simply brought Lin Jianye's 70-year-old mother from the village and let the old woman take care of the child all day long. The couple lived in the same house again.
Ever since the old lady came, the couple has become completely hands-off. They don't take care of the children, don't do housework, and just wait for the old lady to prepare meals and eat them ready-made.
The old lady was old and her health was not very good, but she still managed to take care of her son's family.
The old woman in the village wouldn't take care of the child very carefully. Besides, the child wasn't her own grandson. She rarely held him, just let him play on his bed. If he started crying, she'd close the door and stay outside, letting him cry his heart out.
Now that the child can roll over, the old lady is afraid that the child will fall off the bed if she can't keep an eye on him, so she just puts a mattress on the ground and lets the child play by himself.
The ground is cold, and the child's body is delicate and cannot withstand the invasion of cold air. He has been suffering from diarrhea frequently recently, making the already thin child even thinner.
Even so, the family did not plan to spend money to take the child to the hospital for a check-up.
The child was feeling unwell and cried even harder. The couple was annoyed and blamed the old lady for not taking good care of the child. In the words of Mrs. Lin, "Whose child doesn't go through this? It will be fine when they grow up."
Besides, you are the child's parents. You two are acting like nothing happened. How can you expect me to take care of it? Just give me enough money and I will take good care of it."
When the couple heard the old lady asking for money, they simply shut up. They were vegetable vendors, so they didn't have to go out to buy vegetables for their family. They brought all the meat home from the market.
The two of them only gave the old lady a few dozen yuan in pocket money a month. How could the old lady be willing to spend that money on a little bastard?
Fortunately, the child was lucky, otherwise he might have been raised to death as an infant.
Growing up in such a family, it would be strange for a child to be close to the couple.
Sun Aimin and Jiang Weidong took a taxi directly to the vegetable market stall where Lin Jianye and his wife were. After they walked around the vegetable market, Sun Aimin spotted the couple.
He pulled Jiang Weidong a little further away, glanced at Lin Jianye's stall, and said to Jiang Weidong, "Brother Weidong, look, those couple are the people we're looking for. But they didn't bring their child with them. I guess someone at home is helping to take care of the child.
Let's keep an eye on these two people, and when they pack up and prepare to go home, we'll follow them and see where they live."
Jiang Weidong nodded and said, "Okay, then let's go to the market entrance and wait for someone?"
They had already asked when they entered the market, and it closed at 6:30 pm. However, Lin Jianye got up early to buy goods, so he should go home to catch up on sleep during the day.
Sun Aimin said, "Wait here for a moment. I'll go meet them and talk to them."
Afterwards, Sun Aimin walked towards Lin Jianye’s vegetable stall.
When he arrived at the stall, Sun Aimin picked up two dishes and asked Zhang Jing to weigh them.
While Zhang Jing was weighing and settling accounts, Sun Aimin glanced at Lin Jianye, who was sitting listlessly on a worn-out chair, and asked, "Brother, are you tired from serving food this morning?"
Zhang Jing replied, "Well, we vegetable sellers have to go to the wholesale market at two or three in the morning to buy vegetables. If we go too late, there won't be any good ones. He gets up early every day, so how can he not be tired?"
Sun Aimin said, "Why don't you go home and rest after serving the food?"
Zhang Jing said, "Let him sit here and rest for a while. He'll have to go home and catch up on his sleep soon. Come back in the afternoon to help me sell vegetables."
As Sun Aimin paid, he said, "Brother, you are such a hardworking man!"
After he left with the vegetables, he immediately told Jiang Weidong about the situation. In order not to arouse the suspicion of Lin Jianye and his wife, the two waited a little further away, keeping an eye on the movements of the stall.
After a while, Lin Jianye stood up and walked towards the back door of the vegetable market. He parked the tricycle he used to load goods at the back door and prepared to ride away.
Sun Aimin and Jiang Weidong hurried after him. When they reached the back door, they were surprised to see quite a few street vendors selling snacks, and quite a few residents were eating there.
While Lin Jianye was moving his car, Sun Aimin and Jiang Weidong hurried to the side of the road to find a tricycle.
They watched Lin Jianye drive the car out before letting the tricycle follow.
Lin Jianye's three-wheeled motorcycle was so noisy that he didn't even notice that there was a car following him.
About twenty minutes later, Lin Jianye parked the car at the gate of a small courtyard. Sun Aimin and Jiang Weidong asked the tricycle to stop at the door of a house a little further away. They paid the fare and gave the driver a few more dollars to ask him to wait there for a while.
Afterwards, Sun Aimin and Jiang Weidong got out of the car, watched Lin Jianye enter the yard, and then followed him.
When they arrived at the gate of Lin Jianye's house, they could hear the crying of a baby inside through the wall.
Old Mrs. Lin has lived in the countryside all her life and has developed a loud voice that is unique to rural women. When the child cries, the old lady's voice is accompanied by scolding: "Cry, cry, cry, all you know is to cry, it's like you're in mourning all day long..."
Lin Jianye wanted to catch up on his sleep. He was annoyed by the child's crying, and the old lady's scolding made him even more irritated: "Mom, can you please comfort him and stop him from crying? What's the point of scolding? I work so hard every day to make a little money, and I can't even get a good night's sleep when I get home..."
The old lady was also angry when her son said this: "Are you annoyed now? What were you doing in the first place? You had to bring this little bastard back home. Did you buy this for me?
What sins did I commit in my previous life? What is due to you is still owed to you. At such an old age, I still have to serve the older and the younger. I might as well die early. Living is just suffering..."
