Zhan Jinhua and her gang usually acted in the dead of night. But today, she felt uneasy and wanted to move the store's goods as quickly as possible.
So she called her accomplices who were in charge of transporting the goods and asked them to come early and move the goods away while there was no one at the back door.
Sun Aimin was lucky, as this group of people used to return the goods to the store every three to five days. However, with more orders coming in these days, they had gotten a little carried away.
After all, they have insiders who can tip off the higher-ups whenever they make a move. So, although they are cautious, they are not really that scared.
Sun Aimin and his companions waited at the intersection for about two hours before the suspicious van appeared.
Sun Aimin immediately perked up and whispered to the others, "Here we come!"
Several people stared at the van that entered the alley and watched it stop at the back door of the noodle shop.
The man in the passenger seat got out and knocked on the door gently and rhythmically, as if giving some kind of secret signal.
Soon, Zhan Jinhua opened the door from the inside and handed over a large suitcase in her hand: "Hurry up, you go first, be careful."
The man didn't say much and quickly put the box into the car. He got in and closed the door. The driver turned the car around and drove away.
After locking the back door from the inside, Zhan Jinhua began to clean up the kitchen and erase any traces, just in case. After everything was packed up, she hurriedly left the noodle shop and returned home.
Sun Aimin and others watched the van turn out of the intersection, and then Master Chen started his car and followed the van at a suitable distance.
After turning left and right several times, the van got on a provincial road. There were a lot more vehicles on this road than in the city, and the speed was faster. There were villages next to each other on both sides of the road.
Sun Aimin and his companions speculated that their base was likely a village. Such a place would be highly concealed, less likely to be discovered, and more convenient for transactions. If it was a village with a high incidence of child trafficking, they might even volunteer to protect the kidnappers.
At this moment, everyone was feeling uncertain. If they got into a fight with those people later, would they be able to escape unscathed and rescue the kidnapped children? If it was just one or two children, it would be easy, but if there were more, it would be really difficult to deal with!
About an hour later, the van turned at a T-junction and entered a village. A sign at the intersection read "Victory Village." It was unclear whether it would be Sun Aimin and his gang who would win, or the traffickers themselves.
The optimistic Master Chen looked at the village stele and said with a laugh, "This is a good name, auspicious. We will definitely be victorious later!"
However, their brazen pursuit of the van into the village would easily alert the other party. Furthermore, Wu Xing and Zhao Hongjun knew from their experience that many villagers were not welcoming to outsiders. They had even been beaten out by villagers for going to look for their children.
Zhao Hongjun said with some concern, "Brother Chen, are you familiar with this village? If we drive in like this, won't we be too conspicuous?"
Master Chen said nonchalantly, "Don't worry. This isn't ten years ago. A car entering the village is nothing new. I've never been to Shengli Village, but people from nearby villages have taken taxis there. If we, the strangers, get out of the car and walk in, we'll be more conspicuous!"
Sun Aimin thought for a moment and said, "If someone stops the car and asks, we can just say we're visiting relatives."
Master Chen continued, "That's fine too. I know there are many people with the surname Cao in this village."
After a brief discussion among the few people, Master Chen drove into the village only after watching the van enter the village and disappear at the turn of the second alley.
It is not September yet, the afternoon sun is quite strong, and the temperature is estimated to be around 37 or 38 degrees, so the village seems a bit deserted.
The crops are not yet ripe and there is not much work to do in the fields. Most people stay in their houses, fanning themselves and watching TV. Some villagers like to play cards and mahjong, which are the most common forms of entertainment for rural people.
So no one actually cared about the sudden appearance of a taxi in the village.
Master Chen drove slowly, making it easier for them to find the van. However, after searching almost the entire village, they couldn't find a van parked in front of any house.
Could it be that they were not hiding in this village, but had gone through it to another place? Or perhaps they had driven the car into the gate instead of stopping at the entrance?
Sun Aimin said, "I think this time we should focus on those with wide gates that are closed. I remember in my hometown village, if there were people at home, the front and back doors would basically be open, and they would only be closed at night when there were no more visitors. The only exceptions were those who didn't like to interact with the villagers, but there weren't many of those families."
Wu Xing and Zhao Hongjun also echoed, "Yes, yes, our village is basically the same. Let's do as Brother Sun said and identify the key targets first. If we don't find anything, we can look for other ways out of the village."
Sun Aimin continued, "One more thing. The areas we just passed through are densely populated with residential buildings, but in some villages, some houses are located in more remote areas. I noticed we weren't stopped when we entered the village just now. I think the villagers aren't wary of outsiders. If that's the case, I think our mission will go more smoothly."
Wu Xing nodded and replied, "That's right. In the villages we've visited before, if there's a lot of child buying, the villagers are very disgusted with outsiders entering the village. Even if they don't just drive the person away, they will definitely question them, and there's also the possibility that someone will follow us, making it impossible for us to do anything. But the villagers in this village are acting quite normal."
