Chapter 26 If it weren't for me, you'd be seeing Dad tonight (2/2)

He never even considered becoming a live-in son-in-law in the Zhong family. In this day and age, being a live-in son-in-law is undignified; you'll be looked down upon and ridiculed for life.

If he really becomes a live-in son-in-law, his children won't be able to take his surname, and he'll have to listen to the Zhong family in everything, living every day under their thumb.

He couldn't bear to think about those days.

Therefore, Zhou Jiadong neither wanted nor dared to sever ties with his family.

If he really gets kicked out, where will he live?

Where else could he go?

Even if he could go to work on the construction site because he is injured, the work there will eventually be finished. He is still an apprentice and doesn't get paid. He can at least eat when he is working, but where will he eat when there is no work?

In the past, if he had nowhere to eat, he could have the nerve to go to the Qiu family's house for a meal; if he had nowhere else to go, he could have stayed at the Qiu family's house. But now, how could he possibly have the nerve to go to the Qiu family's house...

Thinking of this, Zhou Jiadong became even more unwilling to sever ties with Yu Qiuying.

He pleaded and admitted his mistake, saying, "Mom, I was wrong, I was wrong. Please don't kick me out. I don't want to cut ties with you, I beg you..."

Zhou Cailian couldn't help but plead for him, "Mom, please forgive Jiadong this time."

Zhou Jiahong whispered, "Mom, my older brother has already admitted his mistake, so please don't kick him out..."

Seeing that his older sister and younger brother were speaking up for him, Zhou Jiadong was touched. He quickly added, "Mom, I won't marry Zhong Xiaolan anymore. I'll listen to you from now on. I'll listen to everything you say. Please forgive me this time. I beg you!"

Yu Qiuying looked down at him, "But I don't want you to resent me later."

Zhou Jiadong interrupted her urgently, "No, Mom, I won't resent you, I promise!"

Yu Qiuying stared at him silently for a long while, and finally said nothing more.

She took a step back, shook off his hand that was grabbing her trouser leg, and said to Zhou Cailian, "Cailian, go to the kitchen and get a bowl."

"Hey." Zhou Cailian felt relieved, quickly wiped her eyes, and hurried to the kitchen to get a bowl.

Yu Qiuying asked Zhou Jiahong to help Zhou Jiadong to bed, while she went back to her room to get a bag of rice cakes from her spatial storage, and then took a thermos and went out.

She wasn't heartbroken; she just knew she couldn't possibly let him starve to death.

Inside the room, Zhou Jiahong helped Zhou Jiadong to the bed and helped him sit up. He changed his clothes and then went to the kitchen to fetch water. "Brother, wash your face."

"Thanks, Fifth Brother." Zhou Jiadong said his thanks somewhat awkwardly, unable to describe the feeling in his heart.

Zhou Jiahong chuckled, "You'd better thank me properly. If it weren't for me, you'd be seeing Dad tonight."

"..." Zhou Jiadong was a little speechless, but the near-death experience he had just had did make him quite scared.

Actually, his hands and feet were still weak and trembling, he felt dizzy and lightheaded. At this moment, he had no mind to think about love or anything like that. All he wanted to do was eat.

Just then, Zhou Cailian came in carrying a bowl of rice cakes that had been prepared. "Third son, Mom made you some rice cakes. You've been hungry for two days. Eat some of this to fill your stomach first. I'll cook you some porridge when it gets light."

"Okay, thank you, big sister." Zhou Jiadong knew that cooking porridge would take time, and he was so hungry that he didn't care what he ate, as long as he had something to eat.

As Zhou Cailian approached, the sweet aroma of rice cake wafted over, causing Zhou Jiadong to unconsciously swallow his saliva, his eyes practically gleaming with lust as he stared at the bowl of rice cake in Zhou Cailian's hand.

Zhou Cailian stirred the rice cake well. "I added some cooled boiled water for you, so it's not too hot anymore. Do you want me to feed you?"

Zhou Jiadong felt embarrassed to let his older sister feed him, saying, "No need, I can manage by myself. You should go back to sleep."

"Alright then, eat slowly, and get a good night's sleep after you finish." Zhou Cailian handed him the bowl, knowing he was very hungry, so she didn't say anything more. She told Zhou Jiahong to keep an eye on him and then went back to her room.
