Chapter 792: Clean Sweep
Zeng Subai crossed his legs, remaining silent. He simply stared at her with cool, piercing eyes, making Liu Liang feel incredibly uncomfortable, unwilling to stay in the room for even a second longer.
Her fidgeting and constantly shifting gaze told Zeng Subai that Liu Liang was definitely hiding something from him, something she wasn’t willing to reveal.
“Confess and receive leniency, resist and face severity.”
Zeng Subai sat perfectly still, but Liu Liang couldn’t remain composed.
The two engaged in a staring contest, their eyes locked. Finally, Liu Liang couldn’t take it anymore.
Being stared at like that was unbearable. If it continued, she felt she would suffocate. She blushed, feeling choked up.
“Alright, alright, I’ll talk, okay? Can’t I just talk?”
She knew Zeng Subai wouldn’t let this go until she explained everything.
So, confess and receive leniency, resist and face severity – she understood.
“Come with me.”
Liu Liang stood up, subtly adjusting her clothes, and walked towards the interior of the house.
Once Zeng Subai followed, she reached the doorway, closed the door, and drew the curtains. She then found a relatively spacious area.
She should be thankful, she thought, that she’d always preferred open environments, choosing to live in places with ample space. This meant the house had a large living room, perfect for her current purpose.
Reluctantly, she began to take the items from the ring, one by one.
With each item she revealed, Zeng Subai’s expression darkened. By the end, the veins on his forehead were bulging.
Liu Liang had initially intended to keep a few pieces, to make it less obvious, but seeing Zeng Subai’s increasingly displeased face, she realized it was best to be honest.
“It’s all out,” she spread her hands, truly finished. Everything was out, nothing was left.
Now, standing amidst a pile of various jade pieces, she looked utterly innocent. How could she possibly make Zeng Subai want to strangle her?
“Where did you get these?”
He narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint in them.
“From the Zeng family.”
Liu Liang shrugged, as if to say she’d just stumbled upon them and impulsively brought them over.
“How much did you take?”
Zeng Subai found a place to sit, already feeling a headache coming on.
“I took…”
Liu Liang didn’t know how to answer.
“Um…”
She gnawed on her fingernails.
It seemed… she’d taken everything.
“Did you clean them out?”
He knew Liu Liang’s nature. If she could fit it, she’d take it all, leaving nothing for anyone else.
“Yes.”
Liu Liang nodded honestly. “No, not completely clean them out.”
“What did you leave behind?”
Zeng Subai narrowed his eyes again. His voice was full of threat. Could Liu Liang say she was scared?
Could she actually tell the truth?
Zeng Subai glanced at her again. The usually bold Doctor Liu completely cowered.
“I left… the display cabinets.”
Zeng Subai “….”
Indeed, she was Liu Liang – a thief who plucked every feather from a passing goose.
Liu Liang kicked a piece of jade at her feet, causing the veins on Zeng Subai’s forehead to bulge once more.
“I took them to upgrade your ring, and we’ll return them when we’re done.”
That was her original intention, but now she didn’t want to return them. If the Zeng family lost these items, they would quickly fall, and wouldn’t dare bother them anymore.
She was tired of being bothered by them.
“Come here!”
Zeng Subai rubbed his forehead and extended his hand towards Liu Liang.
Liu Liang hesitated. Was this going to be domestic violence? Could she call her mother?
After much fidgeting, she finally walked to Zeng Subai. When he reached out, she instinctively covered her head. If it were anyone else, she would have kicked them long ago. But with Zeng Subai, she could only dodge. She cherished him, and he held a special place in her heart.
Therefore, instinctively, even if she were to be hit, she wouldn’t dare to strike back.
But Zeng Subai simply placed his hand on her hair, and didn’t hit her.
It took Liu Liang a moment to cautiously open her eyes. She saw Zeng Subai, though angry, had a look of helplessness on his face – helplessness towards Liu Liang’s personality, and powerlessness against her boldness.
“Doctor Liu, you’re incredibly daring, even daring to raid someone’s treasure vault.”
And the word “raid,” he couldn’t bring himself to say.
“I just happened to stumble upon it, I didn’t go looking for it.”
Liu Liang was too lazy to stand, and sat down on the floor.
She looked directly into Zeng Subai’s eyes. “What are you going to do? Turn me in to the authorities?”
“What do you think?”
Zeng Subai flicked her forehead. “I only brought out what was mine, and they went crazy. You’ve cleaned out their entire treasure vault, don’t you fear they’ll come after you?”
“No one knows.”
Liu Liang was careful, covering her tracks. “Besides, I have principles.”
She desperately tried to convince herself that she hadn’t done anything wrong. These items belonged to the Zeng family, and she deserved a share.
“Eighty percent of the time, you don’t even know where you’re putting these things. In the future, these items will go to Zeng Shu, that sly fox cub. If they fall into his hands, he’ll definitely team up with that white fox and cause us trouble.”
“What I’m doing is nipping this problem in the bud, preventing future complications.” And trouble for them, their family, and even their future children.
That was going too far, and she’d thought it through.
If a worthy person emerged from the Zeng family in the future, returning these items wouldn’t be impossible.
“I’ve discovered, your eloquence is improving.”
Zeng Subai flicked her forehead again.
“Yes, I’m starting to run out of things to say.”
“Then these things…”
Liu Liang pointed to the pile of jade on the floor. “Should I secretly return them, or…?”
Though she said this, she secretly dreaded it. She’d worked hard to obtain these items, why should she return them? Besides, without the white fox family, these items originally belonged to Zeng Subai. What was wrong with her taking her own things?
“Returning them is out of the question.”
Zeng Subai certainly wouldn’t let Liu Liang take another risk. If anyone found out, they would be in constant trouble.
