Chapter 146 Bad Luck Talisman

"Xiaxia, why?" Given Jiang Ruan's personality, Hua Yi would definitely be hurt.

"Please, let him go. From today onwards, we have nothing to do with each other." An Xia's words were light and airy, but they felt like a heavy burden on Hua Yi.

"Alright, since you've made your decision, I respect it. However, there has to be a price to pay, even if he's one of my people, I won't allow anyone to cross that line."

Jiang Ruan reached out and slapped Hua Yi. As Hua Yi groaned and spat out blood, Jiang Ruan withdrew her hand.

Her offensive abilities were replaced by defensive abilities, which have since increased further.

Therefore, she gained a bit more strength to fight the enemy.

I never imagined that this force would first harm someone I once trusted.

"Pfft... Boss, I... Heh, I won't thank you enough. Let's say goodbye here."

Hua Yi forced a faint smile, but the pain in his heart and his regret for An Xia made it impossible for him to stay here any longer, so he chose to leave.

After Hua Yi left, An Xia calmed down, lay down peacefully, and gazed at the shooting stars flashing across the evening sky before slowly closing her eyes.

Zhang Yang and Qingfeng led the young and strong boys from the Qinglonggang community to the other side of the mountain, where the branches and leaves were still lush, to search for food.

The old man who was originally staying was kept because of his poor health.

"Girl, I think you'd better not wear that thing around your neck."

The old man pointed to the amulet around Jiang Ruan's neck and said.

Jiang Ruan was taking care of An Xia at her bedside. The tissues that had been used to wipe An Xia's body were placed in a folding basin, and the water had become dirty.

Seeing that most people had left, the old man got a little bored and walked over. As soon as he got close, he saw the faintly glowing talisman.

Therefore, I spoke up to remind them.

"A talisman? What are you talking about?" Jiang Ruan took the item out and placed it in front of the old man.

"Yes, this is it. This thing is not a good thing. If you carry it, everything will go wrong for you, and you will always encounter setbacks. I want to tell the person who gave it to you that this thing is a good thing and can protect you and keep you safe, right?"

The old man spoke without any hesitation.

“You understand this. The facts are indeed as you said.” Jiang Ruan thought about her recent experiences: the plague, Zai Zai, Qinglonggang, Hua Yi, An Xia—all of them had problems, and it all happened after she left home with the amulet.

She looked up at the old man with a hint of disbelief, then remembered that Zhang Yang had also questioned this thing, and her heart skipped a beat.

She was a staunch materialist; she considered ghosts and spirits to be superstition and never believed in them.

However, since her rebirth, she has discovered that some things have changed, and she has gradually become willing to believe in them.

Otherwise, how could one explain being reborn and returning to the world?

The old man stroked his non-existent beard, shook his head and nodded, looking like a fortune teller, and smacked his lips, saying, "That's right. Ordinary talismans have these stripes and this folding method, but yours is completely reversed. Moreover, a peace talisman cannot be folded back up after being opened."

The old man took a step forward and examined the patterns on the amulet closely. “This one has clearly been folded several times. Although it was deliberately pressed back, my eyesight isn’t failing me. I can see it clearly. This is definitely not a peace amulet, but a bad luck amulet.”

These three words made Jiang Ruan raise her eyebrows sharply, because this was given to her by her parents. They wouldn't harm her, which meant that they had also been deceived and didn't know who had given them this.

"A talisman for bad luck? You're a Taoist, you know a bit about fortune telling and divination?"

To be honest, although Jiang Ruan was wavering, she didn't really trust him. After all, his image and demeanor were nothing like the kind of person she knew.

"If you don't believe me, wait for your good friend Zhang Yang to come and ask him. If I'm not mistaken, this kid is quite capable and should be able to tell something."

Perhaps sensing Jiang Ruan's hesitation, the old man added another sentence. After all, he could tell that Zhang Yang was his old friend's grandson; how could he not know anything about him? He must have been exposed to it from a young age.

As soon as you speak of the devil, he appears. The two were talking when Zhang Yang and his group returned in high spirits.

They caught a few chickens that didn't look like pheasants or typical free-range chickens from ordinary households; they looked rather strange, but they were certain that they weren't nationally protected animals.

"Boss! Boss, look! We've had a great haul today. Let's cook or grill some food. We're all starving!"

As his voice faded, a chorus of rumbling stomachs echoed through the cave, making everyone look like they hadn't eaten in ages.

"Go ahead, we have all the equipment and stuff. Go get the seasonings from our bag, and while you're at it, see if we have any suitable clothes. Xiaxia is still unwilling to change her clothes."

Jiang Ruan rubbed her head, feeling messy and uncomfortable, like a pile of firewood. She decided to wait until everyone was asleep before going to her space to rest properly.

"Sure, I'll go right now."

Zhang Yang runs very fast, and he always takes the lead in such situations, proving himself to be very capable.

Qingfeng went to help out, and the barbecue that the two of them prepared, with its sizzling oil and fragrant aroma, instantly whetted everyone's taste buds.

"Aren't you going to ask? Aren't you curious? Is the amulet you received really a bad luck charm? Did all these misfortunes happen because of it?"

The old man thought Jiang Ruan would ask Zhang Yang about it when she saw him, but to his surprise, they only cared about the barbecue, which made him quite annoyed.

"No rush. Even if we're unlucky, it's nothing to worry about. Let's eat first. Anxia needs nutrition too."
