Chapter 23 Turmoil

"What are you doing?" Zhang Yang pulled Jin Hui up, his face showing a hint of doubt and anger, and the veins on his hands bulged from the action of pulling him up.

Jin Hui stubbornly refused to get up, muttering, "If you don't agree, I won't get up. Anyway, I'm just a worthless life, and you're the only one I can rely on."

Zhang Yang hadn't expected him to act this way. He remembered that in his previous life, his brother hadn't taken such extreme actions. He had only knocked on the door and looked at him with a sorrowful and grief-stricken gaze, and Zhang Yang had already broken down, taking it as a reason to help him.

But now, is the person kneeling on the ground, struggling to kneel and worship, still the same person?

Just as they were having doubts, they saw a flash of light behind Jin Hui's neck, and the pattern was exactly the same as the one on the group of zombies from last night.

The overwhelming hatred materialized at that moment. Before Jin Hui could speak again, Zhang Yang grabbed him by the collar and slammed him against the door. The door and he were thrown out together.

"Ah!" Jin Hui cried out in pain, his mournful eyes transforming into a serious and sinister look, which he quickly changed back when Zhang Yang looked at him.

"Zhang Yang, are you out of your mind? I'm your good buddy Jin Hui! Do you know what you're doing? I just want to borrow some money from you. My mother is sick in the hospital, and you're my only friend. If you don't help me, I really have no other way out, so I came to you for help."

"Even if you don't agree to my request, you don't have to resort to violence."

“My mother took such good care of you before she got sick. I never expected that you would hurt her so much. I feel sorry for my mother.”

Jin Hui wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, clutched his chest, stood up, and said these words with regret.

"Is your aunt ill?" Zhang Yang believed he only harbored hatred for Jin Hui, so he wouldn't feel guilty even if he killed him instantly. However, he almost forgot that his aunt, Jin Hui's mother, had once cared for him immensely; if it weren't for her, he wouldn't be alive today.

"Otherwise, what do you think I came here for? Last night was so dangerous, I barely survived, and I asked you for help, but you treat me like this. I must have been blind to have met you." Seeing the softening in Zhang Yang's words, Jin Hui walked into the room as if they were old friends, turned on the tap, and took a big gulp of water.

Zhang Yang noticed that the lines on the back of Jin Hui's neck had disappeared, and he thought it was just his imagination. "Stop talking nonsense. Why is Auntie in the hospital? She was perfectly fine the day before yesterday. Where is she? I'm going to go see her now."

Jin Hui's mother asked him yesterday with concern why he hadn't found a girlfriend yet, saying that he was of age and could consider settling down. She also told him to read less on Weibo and just be a person with a clear conscience.

When Jin Hui met Zhang Yang's concerned gaze, a hint of panic flashed in his eyes. He knew Zhang Yang's feelings for his mother; he had come to regard her as his own mother. If Zhang Yang knew that his mother had been killed by him yesterday, he would probably kill him immediately.

Therefore, he must hide it well.

"You don't need to go see her. My mom said you should rest well and try not to go out. Besides, things are very chaotic outside right now, so you need to be careful about your safety and not go out unnecessarily."

"I'm sure you wouldn't want to upset her, would you?" Jin Hui said tentatively, glancing at Zhang Yang while scratching his back.

I got a little bit of zombie saliva on my skin yesterday, and now it's incredibly itchy.

After he said that, Zhang Yang knew his aunt was thinking of him and decided not to go out for the time being, but he would still help if he could. "How much money do you need?"

"Not much, not much, 100,000 yuan is enough." Jin Hui couldn't hide the smile on his face. He wanted the money to make his girlfriend happy. She had wanted that necklace for a long time, but he had never had the money to buy it. Yesterday, he heard his mother say that Zhang Yang was rich and had a house, but he was just missing a girlfriend, so he had an idea.

It doesn't matter if he doesn't have it or not, I do, that's why I came to borrow money so early in the morning.

Zhang Yang wasn't stupid. Seeing the undisguised smile on Jin Hui's face, he already guessed what was going on and knew that the money definitely wasn't for his aunt's medical treatment. So when he handed the card to him, he grabbed his wrist.

[Beep beep beep!]

[Warning, warning, warning! System assessment indicates this person has committed heinous crimes, is utterly wicked, murdered their mother to save themselves, is obsequious, harbors malicious intentions, and is a truly evil individual.]

[Note: He has been infected but is unaware of it. He will truly transform into a zombie as evening approaches, wreaking havoc on humanity. Please make plans as soon as possible to avoid being affected.]

Upon receiving the system notification, Zhang Yang sneered. To Jin Hui's astonishment, he tied him up with rope, fastened him to a pillar, and tightly sealed his mouth with duct tape.

"Waaaah, waaaah..." Jin Hui stared at Zhang Yang with a mixture of confusion and anger, until Zhang Yang brought over his aunt's blood-stained clothes from next door, at which point he shut his mouth.

"Hehe, Jin Hui, you're something else, you're really something! That's your own mother, and you dare to do such a cruel thing? Are you even human?!" Zhang Yang went next door and saw the tragic scene. He was filled with pain and blamed himself for being angry yesterday and not noticing that his aunt was there. But she had clearly gone back to her hometown and shouldn't be here. Why was he here and killed by zombies?

Jin Hui remained silent, head bowed. That woman, the woman he called his mother, disapproved of his girlfriend and refused to give him money. What use was she? Besides, if she didn't die, he would be the one to die. He didn't want to die; he wanted to live.

Zhang Yang raised his foot and kicked Jin Hui, leaving a footprint on his chest. Then he spat out a mouthful of phlegm. "Pah! What's the point of not talking? You piece of trash! I knew you were nothing but a lazy bum. Did you call your aunt over to cook for you?"

Jin Hui laughed, looking at Zhang Yang with unrestrained joy, "What does it matter whether it is or not? We're all going to die anyway. Neither of us can change the ending. Heh, that's all."

"Is that so? Still being stubborn at this point? Then you can just wait here to die. I wonder if those zombies will devour you tonight. After all, you're not entirely like that. To them, you're still a delicious human, aren't you?"

Zhang Yang reinforced the area again and then called out the other three people in front of Jin Hui.

"I thought I was being extravagant, but I didn't expect you to be even more extravagant, playing three at once. Aren't you afraid of exhausting yourself?" Jin Hui still didn't hold back his words.

"Working yourself to death? That's still much better than actually dying."
