They walked slowly inside, and as they passed the first floor, they could still hear shouts coming from inside.
"Hey, Jiang Ruan, I don't think you can find the person you're looking for here." Zhang Yang walked inside, still holding the mop handle he had just picked up at the door.
"What's wrong? Scared?" Jiang Ruan looked at Zhang Yang with amusement, especially when he said something that sounded like he was backing down. His serious expression made her even happier.
Even the troubles I'm about to face don't seem so troubling anymore.
"No, it's just that I find it unbelievable that there's a mental hospital in this dilapidated building, and that the CEO you mentioned lives here," Zhang Yang immediately retorted.
"There's nothing hard to understand about this. Mental illness isn't a difficult disease to treat. Current treatment methods emphasize being close to life; the more detached from everyday life, the easier it is to treat."
So building it here is the best option; there are plenty of people here. As for that CEO you mentioned, he's probably out of his mind; he's not normal.
Jiang Ruan neither confirmed nor denied the second point.
“You’re right. Nine out of ten CEOs have serious illnesses. It’s not normal for them to have one problem today and another tomorrow.” Zhang Yang nodded, his serious face full of agreement.
As they spoke, the two had already reached the third floor. The elevator was broken, so they had to take the stairs. By the time they reached the third floor, both of them were a little out of breath.
"Sorry, I haven't been exercising much lately, so my stamina is really lacking." Zhang Yang suddenly grinned at Jiang Ruan with an embarrassed smile.
“That’s normal, but…shh, we’re here!” Jiang Ruan pointed to the sign at the entrance on the third floor, which read “Mental Hospital” in big letters, and then put her finger to her lips.
Then he gestured with his index and middle fingers to sneak over and listen to the sounds inside the door.
"How are we supposed to get in? Besides, what reason do we have to get into a mental hospital at three in the morning? I don't understand," Zhang Yang said, his voice suppressed.
Jiang Ruan glanced at the lights upstairs that had been turned on because of their conversation, then looked at the doorway. She took out two sets of fire suits from her spatial storage and casually tossed a capsule-sized object through the small hole in the door lock.
"Don't rush, put your clothes on first, we'll be able to go in soon. Remember, watch my eyes, once you find that person, pull him out and see if he's really faking his mental illness. If so, find out why he's faking it."
Was it done under duress, or was it intentional on his own?
Zhang Yang reached out and took the clothes, frowning as he looked behind Jiang Ruan. When he confirmed that there was indeed no backpack, his brows furrowed into a deep frown.
As he dressed, he muttered to himself, "How did she get out? Where did these clothes come from? Does she, a reborn person, know magic tricks?"
In Zhang Yang's opinion, Jiang Ruan's healing skills were excellent, but the ability to conjure objects out of thin air was something he had never seen before, so he couldn't help but be surprised.
"What are you muttering about? Don't get distracted, remember what I said." Jiang Ruan looked at Zhang Yang, thinking he was worried that things would be exposed and attract the zombies below.
His current strength is okay if it's too little, but he really can't withstand too much. He's still waiting to gain superpowers.
"Alright, alright, don't worry about me." Zhang Yang decided to put this doubt aside for now and deal with it later. Let's solve this problem first.
Ten minutes later, the mental hospital became noisy. You could hear people running around inside and giving directions from the doorway.
"Everyone, don't move! My apprentice has come to take me away. He's riding on the clouds. I'm going to ascend to heaven! Hahahaha!"
"Nonsense, this is the result of my gas experiment, don't talk nonsense."
"You two are just fooling around. This is fire! I set it! I'll burn you bad guys to death!"
......
The incoherent babbling stopped after a sharp ringing of the bell, followed by someone saying, "I've already called 119, the fire department will be here soon, everyone please be patient."
A little while later, the noise started again inside, but it was quickly stopped by the ringing of the doorbell. This happened several times. After another ten minutes, Jiang Ruan and Zhang Yang finally knocked on the door and went in.
"Open the door! We're firefighters from Dongzhou City Fire Brigade, here to put out a fire. Open the door quickly!" Zhang Yang shouted, inwardly thinking, "This is really a mental hospital. They're still sitting inside waiting for the fire to start. Don't they know how to run out?"
The people inside quickly opened the door and welcomed the two in.
"Why are there only two of you? Can you even save us?" The other party's impolite words displeased Zhang Yang. He shot a glare at the man, which sent a chill down his spine.
Jiang Ruan looked at it; the sign on the man's body read, "Jin Yushu, Director of the Mental Hospital."
"Dean, our fire brigade encountered zombies on the road. I'm sorry, it's just the two of us. We need to hurry and put out the fire. Please lead the people out quickly," Jiang Ruan said politely. To avoid being recognized as a girl, she even changed her voice and disguised herself.
"Ah, oh, okay, thank you for your trouble." The dean gave Jiang Ruan a deep look, and seeing the insignia on her shoulder, he confirmed that they were legitimate and quickly took the bell to lead the patient out.
Jiang Ruan glanced at the people who had left, but did not see Wang Zhongyi. Confused, she looked inside.
Because Zhang Yang didn't know him, she asked him to make the rescue gesture first, and then she searched inside until she found Wang Zhongyi trembling and tied to a chair in a room.
"Zhang Yang, over here!" Zhang Yang arrived immediately upon hearing the call.
"Is that him? Why is he like this?" Zhang Yang, wearing a mask, blinked repeatedly as he looked at Wang Zhongyi in disbelief.
"That's right, hurry up, I need to know what happened." Jiang Ruan couldn't wait to know the outcome.
“Okay, I’ll try it now.” Zhang Yang said, extending his hand to shake Wang Zhongyi’s.
Wang Zhongyi thought they were going to do something to him, so he shook his head desperately, struggling to escape, and shouted, "Help! Help!" But Zhang Yang covered his mouth when he shouted the second time. The people outside thought they were still putting out the fire and waited anxiously.
[Ding! A message has arrived!]
Wang Zhongyi, male, is greedy and opportunistic. He previously worked in real estate transactions. He was later threatened with violence and is currently in a slightly mentally unstable state. He is expected to be able to fully express his thoughts when the time is right.
Didi
As the sound ended, Jiang Ruan looked at Wang Zhongyi and slapped him, stopping all his movements and bringing him to a brief moment of clarity.
"Jiang, Jiang Ruan, it's you! Please save me! I'm not mentally ill, I really am not, but they don't believe me. Please, get me out of here! I really am not."
