The conversation inside abruptly ended with a creak.
Jiang Ruan and Gu An exchanged glances, then slowly moved to the other side, finding themselves hidden behind a wall or pillar out of their sight.
Just as I hid, the sounds from inside came through again.
"Brother, what's wrong? Has he replied?" Ding Jingyan asked anxiously when he saw his brother's serious expression.
"What's going on? Has the situation changed or something?" Ding Jingli, seeing that something was wrong, got up and came over.
Ding Jingshan smacked his lips a few times and remained silent for a few minutes before looking up from his phone. His gaze fell on the cage below where the zombies were imprisoned, and his eyes suddenly hardened.
"The Phantom Agent Wang told us to wait five more minutes. In five minutes, someone will come to hand over the supplies to us. Everything is ready, enough to guarantee our supplies for the rest of our lives." Ding Jingshan's suppressed sorrow instantly turned into a smile. His face was all squeezed together with laughter, making him look comical and funny.
"Hehe!" Ding Jingyan laughed and continued, "I told you they couldn't abandon us. After all, the zombies we captured this time weren't all ordinary creatures. That red-eyed one looked like a formidable opponent. If we hadn't sprinkled the corpse-repelling powder, I really wouldn't be sure if the three of us would have become his prey."
Ding Jingli remained silent, an inexplicable strangeness creeping in. Although things had proceeded as planned, things rarely go as planned, and who could say for sure?
So he didn't ask for anything else, he just hoped that the three of them could live out the rest of their lives peacefully, and that was all he cared about.
Jiang Ruan, standing outside the door, frowned. She knew that Meiying was there because they had kidnapped Du Ning. She didn't care whether he lived or died; falling into Meiying's hands meant certain death or serious injury, which was exactly what she wanted. Therefore, she didn't stop them.
We're meeting again, and I hear them talking about hiding a nest of zombies, including some level two ones, and they even have corpse-repelling powder.
You should know that this corpse-repelling powder is not so easy to obtain. Being able to use this stuff to defeat a level 2 zombie and imprison it means that it's not just one or two packets, but many packets.
That's a generous offer! If Jiang Ruan gets this, she can share it with the other people in her room, which will save her a lot of trouble.
But judging from the situation, there weren't many left. This large group of zombies was right under her feet, and for the first time, Jiang Ruan felt her feet were burning hot.
She looked at Gu An and mouthed, "Now let's wait for the Phantom's people to arrive. When the time comes, we can take them all out in one fell swoop. That would be doing a good deed for humanity."
Gu An thought for a moment, nodded slightly, and then mouthed the same thing, "I think it's good."
If Qingfeng were here, seeing Gu An like this, his jaw would drop in astonishment. He would mutter to himself, "He looks so worthless, so utterly worthless. His boss has always been arrogant, aloof, and domineering. When did he become like this?"
Five minutes passed, then ten minutes, and the people inside began to get even more impatient.
"I can't wait any longer. They've lied to us again. Let's go." Ding Jingyan paced back and forth in the room, his hair a mess from scratching, and his once handsome face now contorted into a hideous expression.
The Phantom's repeated breaches of promise had exhausted his last bit of patience.
"Wait a little longer, I think they should have arrived by now." Ding Jingli stared at one spot on the door, opened it slightly, and listened intently. Sure enough, he heard light footsteps approaching.
A slow knocking sound came from the door. Ding Jingshan, who was nearby, immediately opened the door and welcomed the person in.
"Hey, Acting King, you've finally arrived! We were terrified by the roars of the zombies down below. We were afraid they would rush out, and then we wouldn't be able to do anything for you."
"Is that so? I don't think you have much patience. Are you getting annoyed waiting? Are you thinking about our organization in your hearts?" The acting king, dressed in black with only his eyes showing, was now gleaming with a fierce light.
"No, no, how could we do that? Um..." Ding Jingyan said with a forced smile, then looked behind the acting king. Not seeing the supplies they wanted, he exchanged glances with the two older brothers behind him.
“Acting King, we have already locked up the zombies for you. The rest should be your responsibility, and you should give us the promised supplies,” Ding Jingli said first. Rather than exchanging more pleasantries, it was better to deal with them quickly and leave, otherwise, something unexpected might happen if they stayed any longer.
"What's the rush? Let's talk first. Here, I brought you some wine. Let's have a drink first, then we'll hand over the reins immediately. After that, whether you wander the world or charge into battle, it's your freedom. Phantom will have nothing to do with you anymore."
The acting king slowly reached into his magnificent robe and pulled out a bottle of wine. The bottle seemed to radiate a mysterious light, drawing everyone's attention. It lay quietly in the acting king's hand, like a precious treasure.
Even before the bottle is opened, a rich aroma of wine fills the air. The fragrance, like a clear spring, flows into the nose, intoxicating and irresistible. Just smelling this aroma is enough to sense the extraordinary quality and unique charm of this wine.
He placed four wine glasses on the table as if they were made out of thin air.
This was exactly what Ding Jingyan wanted. He was a complete alcoholic, and he hadn't drunk any alcohol for a long time while fleeing for his life and capturing zombies. He was practically teetotaling and had been itching to drink.
So much so that when the agent Wang Gang took it out, his eyes became infatuated, and he forgot everything else, even pouring himself a drink first.
"Hahaha, this young man has guts, not bad, not bad. It was worth bringing out my best wine to entertain you." The acting king's eyes showed appreciation, but if you looked closely, you would find that behind that appreciation was disdain.
Seeing that the third brother was fine after drinking, Ding Jingshan picked up the wine bottle and poured a glass for everyone to celebrate the first great victory.
They drank two glasses at a time, then three, then four, until the bottles were empty before they stopped.
"Oh, that's all? I haven't had enough yet. One more, one more bottle!" Ding Jingyan insisted on having another bottle.
The acting king sighed and took out another bottle from his pocket. "I only had two bottles saved. We just drank one. This one was originally intended for the Enchantress, but we were having so much fun that we forgot about her. Come on, let's continue."
Ding Jingyan was overjoyed, his eyes bloodshot from excessive excitement, and he was already slightly drunk.
The bottle was soon empty. Ding Jingli, unable to hold his liquor, left the drinking party early and squatted to the side, vomiting uncontrollably.
Ding Jingshan and Ding Jingyan became more and more addicted to drinking, and before long they were completely drunk and collapsed on the ground.
"Heh, I thought it was something amazing, but it's just this? Is this all there is to it?"
Unlike the others, the acting king rose gracefully, his face no longer showing any signs of drunkenness, but rather a look of murderous intent and ruthlessness...
