Seeing that Jiang Ruan had been keeping a low face and not saying a word, An Xia was a little worried. "Ruan Ruan, is this just the calm before the storm?"
"We're going to die here."
"Won't!"
"Even if that's possible, rest assured, I will never let you die."
Jiang Ruan gripped the steering wheel tightly, and scenes from her previous life began to replay in her mind.
Anxia was terrified and worried ever since the apocalypse began. But in the end, it was she who stood up for her.
In the end, she was the one who met a tragic end while trying to save herself. So, after a year of preparation and awakening some of her supernatural abilities, how could Jiang Ruan allow such a thing to happen?
An Xia breathed a sigh of relief. As long as Jiang Ruan said it, she would believe it immediately. "That's good. Ruan Ruan, tell me, why is it so bright over there? Unlike here, it's pitch black even with streetlights."
She was pointing to the building where the boy was; it was brightly lit and didn't look like it was trying to be discreet or cover up.
Seeing the way the boy was fighting back, which was completely different from his previous life, Jiang Ruan couldn't help but feel suspicious. She even suspected that the boy had been traumatized and had started to give up on himself.
But clearly, she underestimated it all.
When she and Anxia followed the light to the vicinity of the building, a deafening roar came from there.
Perhaps it was the boy's strong scent of blood that made the zombies completely unaware that there were two people quietly approaching them from behind.
They even stopped and watched from a short distance behind them.
Jiang Ruan felt a surge of satisfaction when she saw the boy, who was wrapped up tightly, kick down several zombies that had climbed quite high.
With such skill, there's probably no need to worry for now.
An Xia nudged Jiang Ruan's waist with her elbow and pointed at the boy above, "Who's that? How can he be so brave? Isn't he afraid of these zombies? So many of them, a whole bunch?"
When she spoke, she covered her mouth with her hand and spoke softly into Jiang Ruan's ear, but her voice was clear enough for Jiang Ruan to hear clearly.
Jiang Ruan remembered that although An Xia had lived quite a long time in her previous life, she had met the boy and even stood up for him.
But she doesn't know him now.
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Ruan shook her head. "I don't know them, but I think this is very helpful for us to understand zombies and figure out how to deal with them."
"I see!" An Xia thought Jiang Ruan's words made sense; after all, he had also witnessed the boy's prowess.
She even believed, based on her own intuition, that the boy would be a very capable person.
The two of them crouched down and leaned forward a little, trying to get a closer look at the boy's movements.
But more importantly, and more necessary, is that the boy is one step closer to the time when he was murdered in his previous life.
It will be ready in about ten minutes.
He will be thrown from the building, and the zombies will scramble for him. Soon after, several high-level zombies will appear in the world.
Their ease in leveling up and becoming stronger inflated their egos, leading them to kill indiscriminately and making the relentless spread of infection their pleasure.
Humanity was plunged into darkness.
When people learned that the boy had been pushed by his neighbor, they all came out to condemn him, but he was arrogant and claimed that he was the true chosen one.
It will save the world from suffering.
But he didn't live more than three days before passing away prematurely, without even contracting an infection.
It can be said that evil people will be punished.
Jiang Ruan was extremely eager to know how this life would change, what the ending and development would be.
Just as the two took another step forward, a dark shadow was illuminated by the streetlight and fell directly on them.
The two looked up at the same time and saw a zombie more than two meters tall staring at them with drool on its face, as if it was thinking about how to chew it to make it taste better to them.
An Xia felt her limbs stiffen and she couldn't move at all. She was terrified and hurriedly turned her head to look at Jiang Ruan, calling for help.
Jiang Ruan slowly took out a lollipop from her pocket and put it in An Xia's mouth, then took one out and put it in her own mouth.
An Xia stared wide-eyed, blinked, and couldn't say a word. Her forehead was covered in black lines, each adorned with a question mark ("???").
Until a bright green needle struck the zombie's forehead, followed by a cloud of green smoke surrounding it, it turned into a pool of blood in less than a minute and quickly disappeared without a trace.
Anxia was shocked by her actions. More than fear, she felt relieved. "Finally, it's your turn to protect me."
She quietly recovered after the zombie died, slowly sat down by the flower bed, and gave Jiang Ruan a thumbs up.
Jiang Ruan stopped her movements and transferred some energy to her with her hand, healing the scars on her hand.
It looked like she had pinched it with her own fingernails.
But why was there zombie blood on the flower bed? Jiang Ruan looked at the zombies continuing to fall from the building and understood.
"I think he doesn't need our help anymore. He's so capable, he must have a backup plan. Let's just wait for him to come looking for us."
"Let's go, go save your sister. If we're too late, something might really happen."
Jiang Ruan pulled the still-shaken An Xia away.
An Xia remained silent the entire way, staring at her hands, which had just been stained with zombie blood but were later healed by Jiang Ruan and restored to their smooth state.
A wave of fear washed over me.
He was unable to recover for a long time.
When she arrived at her sister's house and was about to get out of the car, she finally couldn't hold back any longer and asked all the questions that had been on her mind.
"Ruan Ruan, how did you know he would come looking for you? You don't know him, do you? You didn't do anything, so how would he know you or me?"
"Even looking out the window, it shouldn't be that clear."
Jiang Ruan didn't rush to answer, but instead took a glass of water from her back bag and handed it to An Xia.
She took it without thinking, then remembered she was still eating a lollipop and recalled another problem. "And another thing, you're fighting monsters, why did you have to put a lollipop in my mouth, especially a strawberry one? Did you forget?"
I've always only liked grape flavor.
But she didn't actually pull the lollipop out and throw it away. Instead, she took a sip of water and then put it back in her mouth.
After she finished speaking, Jiang Ruan patiently answered her questions, "First, although lollipops are a very childish snack and inconspicuous, they are an indispensable thing in the apocalypse because they have a level of sugar content that ordinary sugar cannot reach."
"You'll only survive my poison if you keep it in your mouth. You think that's why I've been protecting us both, making us munch on lollipops? It's all for this."
"Secondly, as you said, he will come back to us. This is very simple. I saw him and saw him kill the zombies when we did. He is very willing to form alliances with others."
"Otherwise, what did that smile mean?"
