Chapter 111 Du Chong's Request

Everyone had their own thoughts while eating the meal.

As night fell, Du Chong stared at his brother, who was still asleep on the bed, feeling extremely nervous.

"Didn't they say it would take at least a day? Why isn't he awake yet!"

He kept glancing at the mechanical watch on his wrist, waiting anxiously.

"Uh..." The person on the bed woke up, but the sound they made was a little weak.

It took a while for me to recover a little.

"Brother, am I not dead? Or did you die with me and we're in the underworld?"

Li Jie looked around anxiously, and when he saw Du Chong's pale face, he panicked and thought that he was also dead.

Du Chong's carefully cultivated emotions were shattered by his words, and he burst out laughing.

"You little brat, you're not dead, and neither am I. We're both alive."

Li Jie thought it was unlikely, because he was not only infected with the zombie virus, but also stabbed in the back by his teammate and shot. How could he still be alive?

"Big brother, I... am saved?" Li Jie wanted to argue again, but he pinched his thigh twice and it really hurt, so he was sure that he was real and not a soul.

"Yes, yes, Miss Jiang Ruan saved you, we owe her a great debt of gratitude."

Du Chong paused for a moment and continued, "But it's alright, we'll return it to her. Now, feel how you're recovering. Miss Jiang Ruan said that as long as you wake up, you'll be fine."

Du Chong looked at him expectantly, and seeing his movements go from stiff to flexible, and even able to get up and take a few steps, his gratitude deepened.

But more than anything, it was awe-inspiring!

Jiang Ruan, her healing skills are so powerful! I have to find a way to recruit such a talent.

"Jiang Ruan? Okay, I'll do whatever you say, brother."

Although Li Jie didn't have a deep impression of the name, he always felt that the person was a good person, so since his older brother had said so, he would remember this kindness.

"Knock knock knock..." A rapid knocking sound rang out at this moment.

"Who is it?" Du Chong got up and walked behind the door to ask.

"It's me, Jiang Yan!"

As Du Chong opened the door, he said, "It's Captain Jiang. What's the matter so late?"

Jiang Yan entered the room. "I was thinking it was about time to see if your brother had woken up. If he hadn't, I might have had to ask Jiang Ruan what happened. But it seems that's not necessary now."

Jiang Yan and Li Jie exchanged a glance, and Jiang Yan breathed a sigh of relief. He then sat down at the table without ceremony and took a big gulp of water.

"I'm sorry to have worried Captain Jiang. Miss Jiang Ruan's healing skills are truly amazing; Li Jie's recovery has been incredibly fast. I just don't know when she arrived at this base, or if she's even one of our people?"

"Huh??" Jiang Yan paused. He hadn't expected Du Chong to have such thoughts. Was he after Jiang Ruan's abilities?

"I didn't mean anything by it, Captain Jiang, please don't misunderstand, I was just curious."

Seeing Jiang Yan's serious expression, Du Chong felt that this matter should not be rushed, so he quickly explained.

"Since that's the case, Captain Du can ask her when you have time. That way you'll know more clearly." Jiang Yan didn't intend to tell the truth; it was better to postpone weighing the pros and cons.

Thinking about it, he wouldn't ask Jiang Ruan directly unless he really had ulterior motives, or was intellectually deficient.

"Since that's the case, then so be it. It's already a great favor that she came here to save my brother's life. We can't let her get annoyed," Du Chong said with a smile.

He naturally understood what Jiang Yan meant; he wasn't stupid.

It's just a bit of a pity.

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Jiang Yan left.

"Big brother, that person? This isn't Duan Yu's territory, is it?!" Li Jie exclaimed in horror, his face filled with disbelief.

"That's right!"

"No, no, no, I don't want to stay here. I have to leave, leave right now. Brother, let's go, let's not stay here. He's a living devil."

Li Jie suddenly became tense and flustered, for some unknown reason.

"Li Jie, don't get agitated. Listen to me. Duan Yu's former captain, Jiang Yan, is back. He's the same person you just saw. Given his temperament, we'll be fine."

Du Chong offered words of comfort and reassurance.

"Nothing happened? Brother, are you joking? Have you forgotten how our brothers died, how those zombies broke through our defenses, destroyed our equipment, and killed our compatriots?"

Li Jie, who had just recovered, fainted again due to anger and a sudden surge of rage.

"Li Jie? Jie? Hey, why are you so angry!"

Du Chong didn't expect Li Jie to faint because of something like this, but it was late at night, so he couldn't go looking for Jiang Ruan.

So, after a brief check-up revealed that Li Jie was not seriously injured, he lay down on the bed next to him and went to sleep.

He was exhausted after a long day and very sleepy.

The next morning, Li Jie was nowhere to be found!

"Li Jie, where...where did you go!"

He slept soundly yesterday and did not notice anyone coming in to take him away, nor did he hear the sound of him opening the door and walking out.

So, he had no idea whether he left on his own or was taken away by someone.

Just then, Jiang Ruan, worried about Li Jie's condition, came over, along with Gu An.

"Miss Jiang, you must help me. I only trust you." Du Chong hurriedly ran over, grabbed Jiang Ruan's hand, and pleaded.

Gu An pulled her away...

"Just say what you want to say, there's no need to resort to violence."

Gu An's emotionless words fell upon Du Chong, making him feel extremely oppressed.

He apologized repeatedly, "I'm so sorry, I was just anxious. Li Jie is gone, I don't know where he went, we've searched the whole base but can't find him. After thinking it over, I had no choice but to ask you for help, maybe you have a solution."

"What? Li Jie is gone?" Jiang Ruan was shocked. She had only just learned that the man's name was Li Jie, but he had disappeared. Where could she find him now?

"Yes, yes, he was so angry yesterday that he fainted, and then..."

Next, Du Chong told everyone he met what Li Jie had said after waking up the day before without any concealment.

"You mean, Jiang Yan came by, stayed for a short while, and then left?"

"yes."

"But he clearly said he was going back to sleep. He had no reason to lie when he suddenly came here."

Jiang Ruan thought back to the last time she saw Jiang Yan yesterday. He said he was very tired and wanted to go back to rest, so she wouldn't disturb him.

Jiang Ruan was already fast asleep by then.

These were things Qingfeng and Zhang Yang said at breakfast just now.

Du Chong looked unwell, thinking that if the base couldn't be found, Li Jie had probably gone out.

Just as they were worrying, someone suddenly came to report that Duan Yu had been injured in a duel and asked Jiang Ruan to come and take a look.

"Okay, I understand. I'll go now."

Jiang Ruan frowned and thought for a while before saying, "Let's go together; maybe we'll see Li Jie."
