"Let me tell you, that old bastard is no human being." Since we can't beat him, we might as well join him.
Zhao Rui immediately dropped a bombshell: "Back in my youth, I was young, handsome, and full of love for my country and aspirations for the military, so I resolutely joined the army. Who would have thought I'd run into such a scumbag who blackmailed me with a spot in a special forces team?"
"But you know what, this guy isn't a real man, hahahahahahahaha."
At this point, Zhao Rui appeared somewhat manic, continuing to loudly exclaim, "Don't let his tall and strong appearance fool you, he's a zero, hahahahahaha!"
Upon hearing this, Gu Yanlin immediately switched to a look of utter shock, saying, "How could he be like this? I knew it! That's why he always looked at me with red eyes. Luckily, I haven't been in your team long enough for anything to happen."
"That scared the hell out of me." Gu Yanlin, a "pure straight man," patted his chest, looking relieved.
"Brother, you don't know this, do you? Do you know why he's 'zero'? He's 'impotent', hahahahahahaha!" Zhao Rui laughed wildly.
Thanks to their energetic performance and promotion, Chu Guodong is now seen by the members of the Tenglong team as a man who is not a real man, a bully, a scumbag, a man who harms innocent women and men, and an abuser of power... a whole host of negative words can be used to describe his image.
As for the two of them, they became the victims pitied by the Tenglong Collection Team. At least that's how it appeared on the surface; what they really thought was none of their concern. After all, their fighting prowess was undeniable; anyone wanting to mess with them would have to consider how strong their fists were.
Zhao Rui kept spouting nonsense the whole way.
By spreading rumors, Gu Yanlin and Zhao Rui successfully infiltrated the Tenglong Collection Team and became "one of their own".
When they arrived at their destination, Wang Teng got off the bus and saw his teammates with their arms around each other's shoulders, looking like good buddies. Their words were filled with admiration and concern... Such complex emotions almost made him think he had gotten on the wrong bus.
"Xiao Gu, Xiao Zhao, it seems you've integrated well, which puts my mind at ease. Keep up the good work and take good care of the newcomers," Wang Teng said, looking very pleased.
"Brother Teng, don't worry. We'll take good care of the kids." The average age of the people in the Tenglong Collection Team is over 30, so calling Gu Yanlin and Zhao Rui "kids" isn't a problem.
Their main target for today's search is a gas station in Liancheng City.
Liancheng was once a well-known tourist city in southern China, and its urban development was quite prosperous. Although many places are frozen under the ice, there are still many things to search for.
Especially in the last two years, everyone has gained more experience and has more tools at their disposal. Chiseling ice and digging holes are no problem at all.
Upon arriving at the location, Wang Teng first chose a good spot that was sheltered from the wind and offered a panoramic view.
After having the tent pitched and the stove lit, I went inside and sat down, watching the people outside busy at work.
Of the 20-plus members of the Tenglong collection team, half were responsible for security. The rest were the ones actually tasked with breaking through the ice to collect supplies.
They were supposedly in charge of security, but in reality, their main responsibility was ensuring Wang Teng's safety and preventing anyone from stealing their supplies. As for the people, their attitude was that they would try to save them if possible, and if not, they'd rather die wherever they wanted.
"Xiao Gu, Xiao Zhao. You two just arrived today, so work with them for a couple of days doing the collection work. Once you've made some progress, I'll transfer you to the security team."
"Don't mind it, everyone in our team has gone through this. I know your strength, I won't let your powerful fighting force go unpunished." Before starting work, Wang Teng called Gu Yanlin and Zhao Rui to his side and gave them a good talking-to (pie in the sky) before waving his hand to tell them to get to work.
Only a small, pointed corner of the gas station was visible above the ground, indicating that it had once been a building. The location was found thanks to the pre-apocalyptic map of Lotus City in Wang Teng's possession.
After the flood, some buildings were submerged and collapsed, altering some of the original map's content to some extent. However, the arrival of extreme cold rendered these changes negligible.
As long as you recognize the directions on the map, the existing buildings are easy to find.
However, after the apocalypse, paper maps became a rare commodity, and few people possessed them. It was through these maps that Wang Teng was able to assemble this medium-sized collection team.
And in some ways, they are no less capable than large collection teams that don't have maps and often wander around aimlessly.
First, experienced team members confirmed the location to be excavated. The remaining 10 members, excluding the security team, including Gu Yanlin and Zhao Rui, were divided into two teams, one on each side, and the excavation work began.
After an unknown amount of time, Gu Yanlin felt that his arm no longer belonged to him before someone came over to stop them, telling them to rest for half an hour, eat first, and then continue working.
Lunch was simple: either compressed biscuits or steamed buns with hot soup. Although it was called hot soup, Gu Yanlin found it tasted no different from dishwater.
Sitting among the crowd, Gu Yanlin looked up into the tent. Wang Teng was holding a steaming bowl of instant noodles, and there were several plates on the table in front of him, which were obviously filled with vegetables.
Looking at the so-called security team members, each person had a steaming bowl of instant noodles. Smelling the familiar aroma, Gu Yanlin found it even harder to swallow his food.
Gu Yanlin stuffed the compressed biscuit in his hand into his mouth, took a sip of "soup," chewed it a couple of times, and swallowed it.
Recognizing the familiar taste in the soup, Gu Yanlin cursed inwardly, "Damn it, isn't this just the dishwater used to cook instant noodles? They're eating instant noodles, and they won't even share a drop of the broth with anyone else."
Gu Yanlin nudged the person next to him with his elbow and asked in a low voice, "Brother, do you guys eat like this every day?"
“Yeah, what else can we do but eat like this? We’re lucky if we have anything to eat at all,” said the man next to Gu Yanlin, a middle-aged man who looked to be around 50 years old, though his hair was already half-white, probably due to the immense pressure of the apocalypse. He replied helplessly upon hearing Gu Yanlin’s question.
"Brother Teng is considered pretty good. Every time he goes back, he can give us some stuff to barely support our families. Some other gathering teams just use people as tools." The uncle twitched the corner of his mouth, seemingly wanting to laugh but finding that he couldn't, so he gave up.
Numbly eating his food, he looked at Gu Yanlin's young face and thought about his past, then said comfortingly, "However, you two are still young and strong. Brother Teng won't let you live such a miserable life for long."
"In a few days, you'll be able to eat instant noodles over there too."
