Not long after they set off, they arrived at the place they had agreed upon with Chu Guodong.
"They're here."
After waiting in the car for a short while, Gu Yanlin saw two military green SUVs driving towards them in the distance, getting closer and closer.
Two SUVs pulled up next to their car and stopped.
The car door opened, and sure enough, it was the group from Squad 532 who stepped out.
The group exchanged brief greetings, then got into their respective cars and headed north.
Three cars lined up in a row, driving on an empty road. The two cars belonging to Team 532 were in front, and the car belonging to Gu Yanzhi and his team was at the back.
With no signal and no navigation available, plus the terrain having changed drastically since before the apocalypse, Gu Yanzhi decided to follow Chu Guodong. The route had been planned by Chu Guodong, so they just had to follow along.
Chu Guodong also chose the most cumbersome but currently most effective method: using a pre-apocalyptic map and a compass to navigate.
Although the terrain has changed, the locations of the cities remain the same; they can still be found by following the latitude and longitude on the map.
In addition to recognizing the map, Chu Guodong also prepared paper and pen, and the routes he traveled were transformed into maps.
Before setting off, Chu Guodong had a general understanding of the earthquake situation along the entire route and tried to avoid all disaster-stricken areas when planning the route. However, the current data is all obtained manually through special channels, and some omissions are inevitable.
Unfortunately, we encountered a disaster area where vehicles could not pass, so we had to change our route and take a detour.
Gu Yanzhi sat alone in the spacious back row. Her legs weren't fully healed yet, and sitting for long periods wasn't good for them, so she simply laid the back seat flat, turning it into a bed, and lay down on it.
Having not slept enough last night, Gu Yanzhi lay down for a while before closing her eyes completely, her breathing becoming steady.
Seeing that Gu Yanzhi had fallen asleep, Gu Yanlin and Song Zhao carefully refrained from making any other noise. Gu Yanlin leaned back in the passenger seat, idly playing a single-player game on his phone. After a while, he found the game too boring and leaned back in the passenger seat to close his eyes and rest.
Along the way, they had to confirm their location and avoid the roadblocks caused by the earthquake. After a whole morning of driving around, Gu Yanzhi and his team had only driven a little over 100 kilometers.
At this pace, they should be able to reach the Lotus City base by today.
The distance from City C to Liancheng is more than 200 kilometers. Before the apocalypse, it would have taken only two hours, but now it takes a whole day.
Heading north to the capital, a distance of over 2,000 kilometers, Chu Guodong estimates it will take them at least 10 days to travel. The further north they go, the less severe the disaster becomes compared to City C and its surrounding areas, and the recovery is much better there. Road conditions will be better further north, allowing them to travel at a faster pace.
Driving for 10 days straight would be too much for the car's fuel tank, even if the driver could handle it. Chu Guodong's original plan was to drive during the day and try to reach the nearest base at night so he could rest and refuel the car.
They only brought enough fuel for two days when they left City C; City C simply couldn't provide any more.
They found a relatively flat and open spot and parked the three cars side by side.
Song Zhao got out of the car, set up a windbreak, and laid out sleeping mats for the tent. He then invited the members of Team 532 to come over and rest.
