Su Yao and Ling Yu headed towards the research base buried under ice and snow. Along the way, Ling Yu used his ice-type ability to easily clear a path ahead, and the two traveled much faster than before.
As they approached the research base, they discovered it was enveloped by a powerful energy shield. The shield emitted a ghostly blue light, contrasting sharply with the surrounding ice and snow, making it appear both mysterious and dangerous.
“This shield looks tough to deal with,” Su Yao said, frowning. After careful observation, Ling Yu said, “This should be a protective device that combines multiple energies. Breaking it with brute force might trigger a dangerous backlash.”
Su Yao activated the system, attempting to find a weakness in the shield. After scanning, the system indicated that the shield had several energy nodes; if these nodes could be destroyed simultaneously, the shield might fail. However, these nodes were distributed in different locations within the base, and various defensive mechanisms surrounded them.
The two searched for an entrance around the shield and found a small energy channel in a corner. This channel, seemingly used for energy transmission, was somewhat damaged and barely wide enough for one person to pass through. Su Yao used her spatial abilities to enter the channel first, followed closely by Ling Yu.
Upon entering the base, they found it in complete chaos. Some of the various instruments and equipment were sparking, while others were completely destroyed. The temperature inside the base was even lower than outside, and the walls were covered with thick icicles.
Following the system prompts, they headed towards the nearest energy node. However, they hadn't gone far when they were attacked by a group of mechanical puppets. These puppets resembled humans, but their bodies were made of metal, and they moved swiftly and possessed immense strength. They swung their mechanical arms and attacked Su Yao and Ling Yu.
Ling Yu waved his hands, and the surrounding temperature plummeted. He condensed the moisture in the air into sharp ice spikes, which he shot towards the mechanical puppets. The ice spikes pierced through some of the puppets' bodies like arrows, but others continued to approach.
Su Yao used a fusion skill combining spatial and wind blade abilities to create powerful spatial wind blades. These blades sliced through the puppets, shredding their bodies into fragments. With their combined efforts, the mechanical puppets were completely destroyed.
Continuing on, they arrived at a massive laboratory. In the center of the laboratory was a huge energy reactor, and beneath the reactor lay the energy nodes. However, an energy field surrounded the reactor, preventing them from approaching.
"Let me give it a try," Ling Yu said, using his ice-type ability to try and freeze the energy field. However, the energy of the energy field was too strong, and the ice-type ability could only form a thin layer of ice on the surface, which was quickly melted.
Su Yao observed her surroundings and discovered that the control panel in the laboratory seemed to be able to control the intensity of the energy field. She teleported to the control panel and began to try to operate it. After some fumbling, she found the button to adjust the energy field, but in doing so, she also triggered the base's alarm system.
Alarms sounded, and the base's defense system activated. Numerous laser emitters extended from the laboratory walls, beams shooting towards Su Yao and Ling Yu. The two hastily dodged; Ling Yu used an ice wall to block the lasers, while Su Yao used her spatial abilities to teleport Ling Yu repeatedly, searching for a safe place to hide.
While dodging the laser attacks, Su Yao discovered that the laser emitters had a certain attack interval. Seizing the opportunity, she teleported to a emitter the instant the lasers paused and destroyed it using her wind blade ability. Ling Yu followed her method, and the two worked together to destroy most of the laser emitters.
At this moment, the intensity of the energy field weakened due to the activation of the alarm system. Ling Yu once again used his ice-type ability to freeze a gap in the energy field. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Su Yao teleported to the energy node and launched her strongest ability attack, successfully destroying the node.
But this was just the beginning; several other energy nodes needed to be destroyed. They dared not linger and, following system prompts, hurried towards the next node. On the way, they encountered an even more powerful defense mechanism—an energy storm.
An energy storm raged through the passage, destroying everything in its path. Su Yao and Ling Yu clung to each other, Ling Yu using his ice-based abilities to create a sturdy ice sphere that enveloped them both. Su Yao, in turn, used her spatial abilities to stabilize the ice sphere's structure, preventing it from being blown away by the energy storm.
After a difficult journey through the energy storm, they finally arrived at the next energy node. This time, they needed to be even more cautious, as every action could trigger a more dangerous situation. But to obtain supplies, they had no choice but to continue forward…
