Su Yao and Ling Yu arrived at the area where the second energy node was located. It resembled a huge energy storage room, with rows of tall energy tanks arranged around it, their surfaces flashing with complex runes and indicator lights. The energy node was located in the center of the storage room, protected by a transparent energy shield. Electric currents surged wildly within the shield, making it appear extremely dangerous.
“This energy shield has very strong energy fluctuations; a direct attack might trigger an explosion,” Su Yao said, looking at the energy shield. Ling Yu nodded and began to carefully observe the surrounding environment, trying to find a way to break it. At this moment, the system prompted: “The energy shield resonates with the surrounding energy tanks. You can try adjusting the frequency of the energy tanks to disarm the energy shield.”
The two immediately sprang into action. Su Yao was responsible for observing the changes in the runes and indicator lights on the energy tank, while Ling Yu used his ice-based abilities to try and disrupt the energy flow within the tank in order to find the correct frequency. During the adjustment process, the energy tank began to emit an unstable humming sound, as if it were about to explode at any moment.
Suddenly, a bolt of electricity shot out from the energy shield, heading straight for Su Yao. Su Yao quickly used her spatial ability to teleport to the side, but the electricity changed direction and continued its pursuit. Seeing this, Ling Yu swiftly erected an ice wall between Su Yao and the electricity. The electricity struck the ice wall, instantly creating countless cracks, but it still successfully blocked the attack.
"We need to hurry, things are about to get out of control here!" Su Yao shouted. They sped up the frequency adjustment process, and after several attempts, they finally found the right frequency. As the frequency of the last energy tank was adjusted, the energy shield gradually disappeared. Su Yao immediately launched her special ability attack on the energy node, successfully destroying it.
However, before they could even catch their breath, the storage room door suddenly slammed shut, and a large amount of white freezing gas billowed out. The temperature plummeted, and Su Yao and Ling Yu felt their bodies stiffen, making movement increasingly difficult.
"They're going to freeze us here!" Ling Yu said through gritted teeth. He concentrated his power, unleashing his ice-type ability to its fullest extent, creating a relatively warm space around the two of them. Su Yao, on the other hand, used her spatial ability to try and find the storage room's ventilation system or other exit.
During their search, Su Yao discovered a ventilation duct hidden behind an energy tank. The duct was narrow, but it was their only hope of escape. The two struggled to move towards the ventilation duct, their bodies suffering varying degrees of damage from the corrosive freezing gases.
Having finally reached the ventilation duct, Su Yao crawled inside first, then used her spatial abilities to help Ling Yu enter. The duct was filled with dust and frost, and they crawled through it with great difficulty. After an unknown amount of time, they finally emerged from the duct and arrived at a new area.
This place resembled a laboratory for studying biological samples, with various sealed culture chambers arranged around the perimeter. Inside these chambers were strange biological specimens, some with enormous wings, others with transparent bodies. In one corner of the laboratory, they found the third energy node.
But as they approached the energy node, the biological specimens inside the incubation chamber seemed to be stimulated and began to react. A winged biological specimen broke through the glass of the incubation chamber and flew out. Its wings were covered with sharp bone spikes, and its eyes flashed with an eerie red light as it pounced towards Su Yao and Ling Yu.
Su Yao unleashed her wind blade ability, sending wind blades hurtling towards the flying beasts. The beasts nimbly dodged the wind blades, then attacked them with the bone spikes on their wings. Ling Yu created ice spikes and shot them at the flying beasts' wings. Upon being attacked, the flying beasts let out a sharp cry, and more biological specimens rushed out of the cultivation chamber.
In an instant, the laboratory was filled with the roars and attacks of various strange creatures. Su Yao and Ling Yu stood back to back, engaging in a fierce battle with these creatures. Su Yao used her spatial abilities to traverse through the swarm of creatures, searching for their weaknesses, while Ling Yu used his ice-based abilities to launch large-scale attacks, slowing down the creatures' advance.
During the battle, Su Yao discovered that these creatures seemed to be sensitive to bright light. She took out a lighting device from her spatial storage, turned the brightness to maximum, and threw it at the swarm of creatures. The bright light threw the creatures into brief confusion, and Su Yao and Ling Yu seized the opportunity to launch a more intense attack, successfully repelling the creatures.
They quickly reached the energy node and worked together to destroy it. Now, only one energy node remained. They knew that destroying this last node would disarm the research base's shield and allow them to access the resources inside. However, they also knew that the defenses of this last node might be even more dangerous…
