Chapter 122 Mechanical Crisis

After dealing with the snow beast, Su Yao and Ling Yu rested briefly before continuing their journey towards the mountain fortress. Su Yao opened the system interface and checked the resource reserves. The supplies they had just obtained from the bridge wreckage had slightly increased their reserves, but they were still far from enough.

The surrounding cold seemed even more intense now, making each step incredibly difficult. Ling Yu's eyebrows and eyelashes were covered in frost. He wrapped himself tightly in the warm clothing he had just found, occasionally using his ice-based abilities to sense his surroundings in case of further danger. Su Yao, meanwhile, scanned the vicinity for hidden supply points using the system. The system indicated a small underground warehouse not far ahead, but the entrance was buried under thick snow and ice.

They quickened their pace to the location indicated by the system. Su Yao activated her spatial ability, moving the ice and snow covering the entrance aside. As the entrance gradually appeared, an old, musty smell wafted over them. The two cautiously entered the warehouse. It was dimly lit inside, so Su Yao took out a lighting device from her spatial storage. Once the light came on, rows of shelves came into view.

The shelves were filled with various supplies: sealed medical kits, boxes of compressed food, and weapons and ammunition. Su Yao excitedly began collecting the supplies, storing the medical kits one by one into her spatial storage; these medicines were lifesavers in the apocalypse. Ling Yu, meanwhile, was inspecting the weapons and ammunition, selecting some lightweight, portable, and powerful firearms and ammunition for unforeseen circumstances.

As they were busy, a strange mechanical hum came from deep within the warehouse. Su Yao and Ling Yu exchanged a glance and became alert. They walked towards the source of the sound and discovered a huge cryogenic chamber. Indicator lights on the chamber were flashing faintly, and something seemed to be wriggling inside.

Su Yao approached the cryo-chamber, attempting to scan its interior using the system. Suddenly, the chamber's hatch swung open, releasing a torrent of icy air. A robot clad in metallic armor, radiating a chilling aura, emerged. Its eyes flashed red. It scanned Su Yao and Ling Yu, uttering a cold, electronic voice: "Intruders, to be eliminated." Then, it launched an attack on them.

The robot moved with incredible agility, its arms transforming into laser guns that fired at Su Yao and Ling Yu. Ling Yu quickly used an ice wall to block, but the laser's intense heat melted the ice. Su Yao activated her spatial ability, teleporting Ling Yu behind the robot, and then unleashed her wind blade ability to attack its joints. The wind blades struck the robot, sending sparks flying, but only leaving shallow scratches on its metal shell.

The robot turned and kicked at Su Yao. Su Yao teleported away in time, while Ling Yu used his ice-based ability to freeze the ground, attempting to restrict the robot's movement. However, the robot easily broke through the ice and pounced on them again.

While dodging, Su Yao noticed an energy core on the robot's back, protected by complex wiring. Realizing this might be the robot's weakness, she shouted to Ling Yu, "Attack its core!" Ling Yu nodded, conjured a large amount of ice, and hurled it at the robot to distract it.

Taking advantage of the moment, Su Yao teleported above the robot and unleashed a fusion attack combining her spatial and fire abilities, striking the robot's energy core. Flames, imbued with powerful spatial energy, slammed into the core. The robot trembled violently, its movements becoming sluggish.

Ling Yu seized the opportunity, using his ice-based powers to freeze the robot's legs in place, then thrust his ice spear towards the energy core. The ice spear pierced through the protective circuitry and struck the core. The robot emitted a series of alarms before collapsing to the ground, ceasing all operation.

After dealing with the robots, Su Yao and Ling Yu continued collecting supplies from the warehouse. This haul was very substantial, enough to sustain them for a long time in the apocalypse. However, they knew that danger still lurked, and they had to reach the mountain fortress as soon as possible.

After leaving the warehouse, the weather worsened, with a blizzard howling in. They struggled forward through the storm, each step fraught with difficulty. In the midst of the blizzard, Su Yao's system suddenly received a distress signal from a nearby shelter.

Su Yao and Ling Yu hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to go to the shelter to check it out. When they arrived, they found the shelter's door tightly shut, and some zombie corpses frozen stiff in the snow nearby. Su Yao knocked on the door, and after a while, the door opened a crack, revealing a wary gaze.

"Who are you?" the person inside asked. Su Yao explained her identity and purpose. The person hesitated for a moment, but ultimately let them in. There were more than a dozen people in the shelter, all in poor condition and extremely short of supplies. Su Yao and Ling Yu looked at these people and felt a pang of pity. They decided to share some of their supplies with the survivors.

The survivors were extremely grateful to them. One of the old men told them that the mountain fortress was the safest place in the vicinity, but the road ahead was fraught with danger, and a zombie-infested town was a necessary stop on the way. Su Yao and Ling Yu, having heard this, were prepared. After resting briefly at the shelter, they resumed their journey to the mountain fortress, heading towards both unknown dangers and hope.
