Chapter 15 Building a Fortified Defense for Post-Apocalyptic Life

As the safe house was gradually completed, the female protagonist did not let her guard down and began to consider some potential problems in long-term survival.

Her primary concern was food sustainability. Although current supplies were plentiful, they would eventually run out. Therefore, the protagonist created a larger planting area in the villa's backyard. She utilized the high-quality soil stored in the space, spreading it in the planting area. This soil, rich in various nutrients and microorganisms, provided excellent conditions for crop growth.

The female protagonist retrieved various crop seeds from her spatial storage, including not only common vegetables such as tomatoes, green beans, and lettuce, but also root vegetables that could be stored for a long time, such as sweet potatoes and potatoes. She meticulously planned the planting layout, dividing the planting area according to the different growth cycles and growing conditions of each crop. To ensure that the crops were not affected by the weather, she built a large transparent dome in the planting area. This dome was made of high-strength, light-transmitting material, which allowed sunlight to penetrate fully while protecting against severe weather such as heavy rain and strong winds, and could even, to some extent, block attacks from zombies or enemies.

Inside the dome, the protagonist installed a smart irrigation and fertilization system. This system is connected to the safe house's central control system and can automatically adjust the supply of water and fertilizer according to the growth stages of the crops. Meanwhile, to promote crop pollination, she also found and released beneficial insects, such as bees, into the space. These bees busily flew around the planting area, pollinating the flowers and ensuring crop yields.

Besides planting, the protagonist didn't forget the importance of animal husbandry. She built a small breeding area on one side of the villa, separating it from the outside world with a sturdy fence and protective netting. Inside, she raised chickens, ducks, and rabbits. These poultry and livestock reproduce relatively quickly, providing a stable source of protein for her family. She stored a large amount of feed in the space and used some leftover materials from the safe house to build some simple breeding equipment, such as chicken coops and rabbit hutches.

In terms of security, the protagonist upgraded the safe house's alarm system. She installed more sensors around the villa; these sensors can detect not only human and zombie activity but also abnormal changes in the surrounding environment, such as earthquakes and fires. Once an anomaly occurs, the alarm system immediately sends a notification to everyone inside the safe house, displaying the specific location and type of the anomaly. Simultaneously, she installed facial recognition systems at all entrances to the safe house, allowing only authorized personnel to enter, further enhancing its security.

To prepare for a potential prolonged siege, the protagonist built a small workshop inside the safe house. The workshop is equipped with various handicraft tools and simple machining equipment. She can use it to repair damaged weapons and defensive equipment, and also to make everyday items such as pottery and simple furniture. In one corner of the workshop, she also placed a small chemistry lab bench for making simple chemical reagents, such as disinfectant and fuel.

Regarding knowledge transmission, the protagonist deeply understands the importance of knowledge in the post-apocalyptic world. She sets up a small library in the safe house, collecting books of various types, including agriculture, first aid, mechanical repair, and military strategy. She encourages her family to learn these skills in their spare time to prepare for long-term survival. Simultaneously, she establishes a teaching area in the safe house, regularly explaining practical skills and knowledge to her family and potential survivors, ensuring that the flame of civilization can continue to burn in the apocalypse.

The protagonist also put a lot of effort into psychological well-being. She knew that the prolonged stress of the apocalypse could easily lead to mental health problems. Therefore, she set up a counseling room in the safe house, equipped with relaxation devices such as massage chairs and aromatherapy diffusers. She regularly organized psychological support activities for her family, helping them maintain a positive mindset amidst the tense survival environment.

Through these efforts, the safe house not only became a physical defensive fortress, but also a living home full of vitality, knowledge, and hope, providing comprehensive protection for the protagonist and her family in the apocalypse.
